Syd Kitchen is visiting NYC from Africa & making a movie
questionable story? kind of interesting at least...

"Syd Kitchen is to South African music what the Sphynx is to Egypt; a landmark that has seemingly always existed, yet remains a true enigma. Syd Kitchen has been active in the South African music scene since the late 60's, and has in all that time remained an innovative and non-compromising performer." [Burgo's Blog]
Syd Kitchen arrived in NY on Tuesday to spend some time here recording with Paul Simon's Graceland band "Ojoyo" and to work on and and promote a documentary that he is the subject of called "Africa is Not For Sissies". He already played Southpaw, Joe's Pub and Zebulon. Tonight (Sunday) you can catch him at Drom.
A 13-piece ensemble from New York City, Zozo Afrobeat features musicians from around the world and is led by African music luminary Kaleta. Afro-Saxon minstrel poet, guitarist and singer song-fighter Syd Kitchen has been a dynamic, innovative contributor to the South African musical landscape since the '70's. Catch an exclusive excerpt from the FEATURE DOCUMENTARY FILM 'Africa is Not for Sissies' about the life, music and poetry of Syd Kitchen directed & produced by filmmaker Joshua Sternlicht. [Drom]Next week he plays Pete's Candy Store and Living Room. The week after that he's at Cake Shop, Nuyorican Cafe, and Madiba in Fort Greene. You can keep track of them on his tour page. Movie trailer (which is also sort of an advertisement for what he is doing in NYC) below...
