Siren Fest wasn't even remotely good

do you know how i know youre gay?
you posed for a polaroid picture at the siren festival.
Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2008 9:57 AM
siren = polaroid worthy

Unlike the sterile quality of digital, the Polaroid camera exposes the heroin haze and dirt-under-the-fingernails (thanks Devendra Banhart) chic of a free indie rock festival at Coney Island during a July heatwave.
That being said, I'm bummed I missed it.

i'm not. i am glad i stayed home.

personally, I had a blast at Siren... and the couple of acts I checked out (beach house, malkmus, islands, etc.) were all great.
but, I suppose people just want to be curmudgeons when they comment on bv. I kinda feel sorry for those folk, as it seems they can't really enjoy themselves.

so dirty and hot and crowded
I wasn't so impressed with the line-up and whaaat the slow grooves of Beach House at such an event? I love them so much but I didn't think their music was fitting to the setting.

I really like the one with the old lady, surrounded by young hipsters.
Circle of life and all.

I thought most of the main stage was pretty great - Dragons of Zynth completely surprised me, Parts and Labor were great, Times New Viking were great, the Dodos were good...

not as crowded as last year? I think heat played a part in keeping crowd smaller. Last year for Black Lips the front was absolutely packed like sardines, this year it was pretty loose.
btw- the crowding at this event puts into question all the crowd control/limits at the pool and central park, I mean they pack in people into those lots until you cant move, yet at the pool and summerstage they have some arbitrary number and thats it? doesnt make sense

Beach House has a real drummer now? How long has this been going on?

glad i stayed home in my central ac-cooled apt. some real faggy-looking people in those photos. no offense to homos, of course.

darren was way too close to me in that crowd. how come his lanky black friend with the septum piercing doesn't get press? i see him everywhere, i for sure thought he was going to get punched in the face when he molested that Pavement fan. sorry i mean that stephen malkmus fan.
Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2008 10:47 AM
ahoy, it turned into that yyears ago.
Posted by reality | July 21, 2008 10:49 AM
darren kept his shirt on? WOW!
Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2008 10:56 AM
who were the people throwing their cd's at Malkmus during his set? that was crazy.
Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2008 10:58 AM
What's a Jick?
Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2008 11:06 AM
There were a lot of hot sweaty women worthy of "getting it"
Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2008 11:12 AM
no darren did not keep his shirt on. that is before he took it off.
Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2008 11:20 AM
The hipster movement could really do without the short shorts on guys. I mean really, the early 80's weren't very cool.
Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2008 11:58 AM
jaguar love were obscenely horrid.
Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2008 12:06 PM
thats an expensive post with all those polaroids.
Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2008 12:15 PM
i love polaroids, and these pics are nice, buuuuuut... ever heard of color correction? just because they're polaroids doesn't mean you have to leave them green...
Posted by photogogo | July 21, 2008 12:24 PM
^^ they aren't green on my computer

Hold this event in the fall, when the Coney economy could actually use a boost. Winter even. Snow or shine.
Posted by najork | July 21, 2008 12:57 PM
HIPSTERS?
AT SIREN FEST!?
I AM SHOCKED.
Posted by THEMIGHTYHANDFUL | July 21, 2008 2:02 PM
film school killed it, as always. and fuck, that bassist is hot
Posted by anonymous | July 21, 2008 2:13 PM

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2008 4:37 PM

Was this the Siren Music Festival or a Never-Nude Conventions?
Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2008 10:35 PM
Man, I wish I'd stayed inside all day and cried for hours rather then go to siren fest
that sounds like a ball!

"Julian from Fiasco"
...at a rare moment when he didn't have to fight off groupies
Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2008 1:06 AM
why is everyone wearing the same sunglasses?
Posted by Anonymous | July 22, 2008 7:34 AM
My favorite sight at Siren was this pathetic hipster wearing a long sleeved plaid (and thick material) button down and incredibly skinny pants and black Converses. Please, people, dress appropriately for the heat.
Posted by Anonymous | July 24, 2008 12:21 PM
only relevant piece of clothing worn by julian. hands down. lionshare holla.
Posted by joey two teeth | July 24, 2008 3:52 PM
The only bad thing about Siren Fest is that, since it's free, it attracts too many crazy old people and niggers who are just looking to change their daily routine of smoking crack and collecting bottles/cans.
