yikes. record collectors are STILL pretentious assholes.

VG strike me as not great but certainly not terrible. regardless, that is an insane price for a recent release. idiots.

Posted by p. champion | July 30, 2008 5:28 PM

Yes cmon lets make this happen friends. I'll get the ball rolling: I'd hit it.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 5:29 PM

I saw the lead vivian girl walking in circles at the Yard.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 5:31 PM

wow thats one beautiful stratocaster

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 5:33 PM

that's a weird squier strat/tele hybrid...with a humbucker at the bridge? damn, that axe must've cost almost $200.00 from musiciansfriend

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 5:34 PM

i'm with you guys, i know we can pull this one off. damnit if it takes all night, we can do it.

that said, WTF people. the vivian girls, again?! fercryinoutloud, the only time i would ever listen to this band is if henry joseph darger himself rises from the grave to announce the show.

you know the drill boys of billyburg...get your bandana necklaces on and keys dangling from your belt loops, it's bedford avenue time.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 5:36 PM

hey vivian, wanna strum my squire strat/tele hybrid

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 5:38 PM

It's simple math, really. Allow me, if you all will, to break it on down:

tattoos + cute = vivian girls

you with me? good.

vivian girls + deserved hype = false statement

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 5:38 PM

no frankie at the mhow show?

Posted by bill p | July 30, 2008 5:39 PM

Which one is vivian?

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 5:40 PM

>>wow thats one beautiful stratocaster

no no no! come on people, for fuck's sake haven't we been there before?! do your homework. shoot, i'm disappointed with you for that wisecrack.

johnny radiohead plays a tele.

dug 'i'm always in a pissy mood' martsch plays a strat

v girl plays some fucked up hybrid of a cheap knockoff fender.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 5:41 PM

This song does not rock!

Posted by greg | July 30, 2008 5:41 PM

They got a new drummer (I think her name's Ellie). It's the first time they played lived with her.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 5:42 PM

i too, concur, with which, to hit it, but just the chick with the weird squier tele/strat hybrid. that thing gets me going.

Posted by my woodrow wilson | July 30, 2008 5:43 PM

WILL BERMAN won that eBay auction. He got the money by picking pockets whilst performing at McCarren Park Pool on Sunday.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 5:44 PM

$73.08???? do you get just one of them for that price, or all three??? or is it three throws with just one of em?? do you get to pick? and can you mix and match??

Posted by eliot spitzer | July 30, 2008 5:47 PM

they don't have a new drummer - frankie is obviously still in the band (but absent from whatever show those pics are from)...

vivian girls rule kids. get on it.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 5:49 PM

"that's a weird squier strat/tele hybrid...with a humbucker at the bridge? damn, that axe must've cost almost $200.00 from musiciansfriend"

that's one of the better comments i've seen on here in some time. nice job.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 5:51 PM

frankie is no longer with the vivian girls?

hmm..

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 5:56 PM

why pay 80 dollars for shit?

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 6:06 PM

i'm still baffled by the popularity of this band. i saw them play at silent barn maybe six months ago and they couldn't play their instruments worth a damn. just awful.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 6:07 PM

have any of you dateless shittalking fucks ever even listened to this album?

every song's a single. it's really catchy and moody and it's got a new sound. People all over the world are psyched on it, that's why the record is worth so much on ebay. These are people who have no idea what they look like.

maybe 6 months ago they weren't up to speed live but now they are tight and solid.

regardless, it's a little early in this band's existence to hate them for being successful, they aren't even successful yet. they're an opening band! give them at least a year fuckheads!

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 6:12 PM

i saw them at death by audio open for team robespierre at the record release party. they were fun to watch, but as far as sound they made TR sound like radiohead.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 6:13 PM

who is there publicist?

in the meantime, i'm blaming calvin johnson.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 6:16 PM

see em now then. they are tight and fiery these days

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 6:16 PM

why are people so condemning of this band for having "undue" popularity? they're not popular yet.

look at that tour. they're playing little places and diy squat venues. you guys are getting your jealous little panties in a bunch about undue attention that doesn't exist.

This band is rad in my opinion, you don't have to agree, but it's not like they're on MTV or the radio or headlining Terminal 5. When they are, then you can go shitting your pants saying they maybe blew up too fast.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 6:21 PM

But BV is the new MTV!

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 6:23 PM

Well Radiohead sucks, so I guess they sounded pretty good.

Everyone's entitled to their opinion, but I don't see arguments about whether you'd "throw it in" bands that are all male.

Also, you're comparing them to polished indie-rock bands, when they are obviously going for a more raw sound, kinda Shop Assistants, Black Tambourine, The Clean, etc. They're on In The Red records after all,
home of Cheap Time and former home of Black Lips, Jay Reatard and King Khan/BBQ Show.

If you don't like those bands, you probably won't like Vivian Girls. And that's ok. They're a punk band with a bit of moodiness and girl-group harmonies.

It's also worth mentioning that I have seen zero evidence of the girls "hyping" themselves. They're kids and they have fun and play shows, so what? Their MySpace doesn't have links to articles about them or anything that every other shitty band does.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 6:24 PM

faux indie cred, going once, going twice,...

sold for 73 bucks to the hippest hipster in hipsterville!!!

are those limited edition ray bans?!?!?!

Posted by Santos the Hip Auctioneer | July 30, 2008 6:25 PM

aww, come on, calvin is a good guy. i love this comment, "they don't have a new drummer - frankie is obviously still in the band (but absent from whatever show those pics are from)..."

haha. and why the hell is that such an "obvious" observation? is this frankie chick, the one who pulls, or used to, espresso at the cafe in a greenpoint, some amazing drummer and we should instantly recognize her style? give me a break. come on, dude. this band will be big until the next set a brooklyn chicklets with tattoos and armed with instruments they can hold with proper wrist-cocking-action comes along and all the kids like them better.

boo hoo.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 6:26 PM

32nd you BITCHES! we got a long way to go to reach 100+ so get moving!

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 6:49 PM

People are talking about this band because they are good. there isn't anyone out there pushing them out of anything but love (yet).

Why would it upset you people that this band is getting a little attention?

Who are you to say it's just because they're girls with tattoos. Eat my dick. I'm a gay man who couldn't give a fuck how hot or not these women are, but I think their record is killer and their live show is solid and powerful and getting tighter every show.

I'm the last guy to claim sexism but constantly writing these women off as just "popular because they're girls" is bullshit.

This band writes good songs, they are popular because they are a good band!

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 6:50 PM

I'd hit it but I can't get it up. Maybe if I "hit" it I can get it up!

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 6:53 PM

6:25. if you want a 2 dimensional hipster band making trendy music, then go listen to MGMT.

Vivian Girls are hardly that.

BTW, it's not hipsters who collect rare vinyl. Vinyl collectors are almost universally reclusive males, and usually old dudes.

I don't think you know your demographics, buddy.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 6:55 PM

Is the $73 an investment? Is this guy planning on sitting on the single, predicting the band will blow up and he'll put it back on Ebay? Enlighten me, I don't understand record 'collecting'.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 7:13 PM

See, there's goes 'DUM da dum da da DUM DUM' and mine goes 'DA Dum da dum da da DUM DUM'.

Posted by Vanilla Ice | July 30, 2008 7:16 PM

it's too bad that none of you people who thinks it's hilarious fun to shit talk these young women to death will EVER do anything that inspires the same amount of attention or acclaim as Vivian Girls have... and they're barely well-known at all.

Maybe if you ever achieved squat in the public eye, you'd realize how fucked it is that strangers who haven't even heard your music or seen your band play think it's a funny game to try to take you down a notch.

Here's a newsflash, there's no notch to take this band down, because they are not famous! It's one thing to put overplayed, overhyped celebrities through the cheese grater of shit talk and hate, but this band has seen none of the perks of fame, no money, no vip perks, no nothing.

So all you're doing is amusing each other by zinging these three girls, and probably hurting their feelings immeasurably. Maybe you should have a crew of know nothings to criticize every step you make? I doubt you little pussies could take your own medicine.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 7:17 PM

oh pratt kids...

Posted by TOODARK | July 30, 2008 7:18 PM

if you're playing squats and someone is paying upwards of $75 dollars on ebay while a bunch of people are arguing about you on brooklynvegan.... then clearly there is some hype at play.

not the strokes headlining their first ever show at hammerstein hype, but it's still hype.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 7:19 PM

People by first pressings of modern bands all the time for $100+.

Just search completed listings for Animal Collective, Blank Dogs, etc.

The price will go down when the In The Red reissue is out, then it will go up if they stick around long enough to do 3 or 4 records.

Good band! Cute girls!

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 7:20 PM

hype would imply something phony, like publicists and record company a&r dudes doing viral marketing or something. none of those are at work here.

actual enthusiasm and interest in a band by people who genuinely like their music is not "hype".

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 7:24 PM

Why not hype something you like?

"Hey I like this, best to shut up about it."

Anyway, yeah, look at their tour schedule:

Zoolegger's in Lafayette, The Cave in NC, Rickety House in Pittsburgh, Nerve Center in Baltimore....

Yeah, total HYPE working for them there.

Oh yeah, this band is really, really good.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 7:27 PM

7:27's post doesn't make any sense at all.

wanna translate from the junky patois for us?

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 7:28 PM

this band is fucking rad. screw you guys who think it's all just because they're girls.

their songs are all singles!

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 7:32 PM

"7:27's post doesn't make any sense at all.

wanna translate from the junky patois for us?"

Sure, asshole, let me give it a shot:

You are a douchebag.

Did that help?

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 7:34 PM

I made 7:34 angry!

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 7:35 PM

"So all you're doing is amusing each other by zinging these three girls, and probably hurting their feelings immeasurably."

Assuming for the sake of argument that they read BV comments, I'll give them some credit and assume that they're confident enough not to let some anonymous assholes get to them.

If their feelings *are* hurt by the comments here, I expect that they'll feel a lot more hurt by the actions of assholes in the live music biz whom they'll meet in the course of their career.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 7:49 PM

i would like to sex the pretty ones

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 8:01 PM

7:49. you have no idea. these girls are regular people, women you'd see at shows, not celebrities. they do not deserve to be disrespected like this. they're not trying to be Britney Spears, or even the White Stripes. They are a little band, can you imagine how fucking awful it must feel to have a bunch of assholes saying you're ugly and talentless on a message board with a readership in the tens of thousands?

if you doubt that number, check here:

http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/brooklynvegan.com

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 8:45 PM

"Tell The World"
"Wild Eyes"
"Such a Joke"
"No"
"Never See Me Again"
"I Believe In Nothing"
"Where do You Run To"

Are all KILLERS.

Not that the other songs are slouches, but the above songs literally get stuck in my head when I'm walking down the street, out of nowhere.

So, yeah, good songwriters. I could give a shit what they look like (even though they look great.)

I can't wait to hear whatever they do next, even if it's more of the same.

GREAT.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 8:50 PM

>See, there's goes 'DUM da dum da da DUM DUM' and mine goes 'DA Dum da dum da da DUM DUM'.

best
post
ever

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 8:55 PM

Good band + cute as hell + touring a lot = deserved "hype." in my opinion.

They realize they're gonna be overly criticized because they're girls.

take a look at the pre-interview thing here:

http://www.brightcove.tv/title.jsp?title=1646075993&channel=1544434214

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 9:00 PM

7:17/8:45, I'm not saying they deserve such comments, I'm just doubting that they (or anyone, for that matter) takes seriously the assholes who comment here.

Posted by 7:49 | July 30, 2008 9:11 PM

you're wrong. they may not "take seriously the assholes who comment here" but it's not like insults don't get under young bands' skin.

Especially when they're directed at women and especially when they're about their looks and their playing ability. You and I know that half of these assholes haven't even heard or seen the band, but do you think your mind absorbs it all that rationally when you're just a young artist getting attention for the first time?

I don't think you have any idea what it's like. How thick skinned do you expect them to be?

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 9:23 PM

vivian girls are the best new band in brooklyn

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 9:55 PM

who gives a shit if someone can play their instrument? you think half the people you dumbfucks worship have any chops worth bragging about?

you all sound like the sad heshers in the marching band at my high school, or that asshole in the zebra suit in heavy metal parking lot.

"that punk shit is from mars, man."

what a joke.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 10:02 PM

"How thick skinned do you expect them to be?"

As thick-skinned as the typical mature New Yorker.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 10:05 PM

dude, you have never experienced unrelenting shittalk if you think it's easy to ignore.

that shit gets under your skin and you don't whether you're good or terrible anymore.

I have seen fuck with older and wiser individuals than the Vivian Girls.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 10:17 PM

You're starting to creep me out. Do you fancy the Vivian Girls damsels in distress and yourself their knight in shining armor?

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 10:28 PM

You know I'd hit it!!!!

Posted by Boner Stabone | July 30, 2008 10:38 PM

10:28 go fuck yourself. you asked me to explain and I did. You know damn well that saying rude things about people is shitty but you got all high and mighty and claiming that if they were "mature" it shouldn't be so shitty for them. eat me. excuse the shit out of me for having to go into mundane detail in order to defend the concept that being mean is, you know MEAN.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 10:47 PM

hey, at least the new drummer is wearing a me first & the gimme gimmes shirt underneath her vest.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 10:53 PM

I hope you mean that genuinely about the Me First shirt. Even though I haven't listened to them since I was in middle school, I've still got a ton of love for them. Anyone who hates on them has no heart.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 11:00 PM

me first are the greatest. their version of uptown girl always makes me smile.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 11:19 PM

i'd really, really like to have sex with the red-headed one. no, i wouldn't have the courage to tell her that in her face. but i'd really like to do it, so bite me.

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 11:34 PM

>This song does not rock!

89!

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 11:59 PM

hey, im the red headed one, post a picture, lets chat

Posted by Anonymous | July 30, 2008 11:59 PM

hype isn't just an industry thing....but don't be naive, this isn't a band that deserves this much attention. there songs aren't all "killer" or "singles". that's lunacy, and no self respecting music fan with an actual record collection would ever say such things unless they were trying to you know...hype something up and get others excited about it.

by the way, isn't kickball katy a notorious internet shit talker herself? or is there more then one? so that said, one of them really might be reading this.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:05 AM

Vivian girls with no Frankie = major suckage.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:06 AM

Band of the week. But i'd hit it.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:08 AM

I have a shitload of records and I love Vivian Girls.

Jazz, folk, reggae, punk, 60's psych, post-punk, indie, coldwave, all that shit.

So, lotsa records and I like Vivian Girls.

Shit, I guess I have no self-respect!

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:34 AM

I have shitloads of boners...

Jazz boners, neo-folk boners, new wave boners...

all that shit.

Posted by Boner Stabone | July 31, 2008 1:19 AM

they have a new drummer and their myspace says her name is Ali, this was her first show

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 2:48 AM

Agyness D was in front of me in line. She said, "Cor blimey, I'm tempted to cut this bloomin' line!" I said, "No, Agyness, that would be wrong." She said, "Bloody 'ell, you're right! The line is for OUR benefit, a rational construct we impose upon the random natural chaos around us in order to bring some justice and order to the universe." Then she wept upon my shoulder. This girl had become a woman, right here in my arms.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 3:43 AM

12:05 is really fucking cocksure of some incorrect opinions there.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 3:48 AM

hello 12:05, nice to meet you.

I'm a self respecting music fan with an actual record collection and I think the Vivian Girls have written a spectacular album of almost all "single" quality songs. I have no motivation for telling you this aside from the fact that I really like this band and think you naysayers have your heads up your cynical little hater asses.

I also think you're a special kind of prick for thinking you know what I do or don't like. Thanks for telling me I must be phony because I really like this band. I guess all those people paying $75 to $100 for Vivian Girls' record on eBay are also phonies. Yes, we're all part of an elaborate (and expensive!) ploy to convince people that we like the Vivian Girls, arbitrarily, for no reason.

Because it just couldn't be possible that we just, simply, think that they're GOOD or anything like that. Why, that's lunacy!

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 5:00 AM

“My first show,” Agyness D whispered into my hair. “I could never get arsed to see the Paddingtons and sod Albert’s solo shows. Who I bleedin’ need to see is these Vivivan Girls. Because they play rock & roll the way it bloody well ought to be played, innit? No fashion, no style, just songs and guitars, intense sexual appeal as a natural by-product of the artists’ vision rather than as the primary selling point, though that redheads a lash, isn’t she eh?” She was sobbing now. “I’ve a fiver says the punters go to their shows and hear the songs, and don’t care if Kirsten Dunst is there shagging the ginger out of Razorlight or MGMT.” I kissed the hair out of her eyes. She’d had a long, long night.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 6:57 AM

Nice bangs.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 7:15 AM

I haven't seen a band this hyped since Pale_Nimbus came to town!

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 7:15 AM

hey does n e1 know whne the new clapyourhanndssayyeah album comes out

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 8:12 AM

no vivian girl can ever know what it's like to have a raging woodrow wilson... from looking at pictures of the vivian girls

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 8:38 AM

yeah, i have to admit, while i think the hype is completely unmerited...the bangs are effin' hot.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 8:51 AM

too late everyone JoeB from Paparazzi already hit that!

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 8:59 AM

ok, so for a comment that doesnt involve "their hot/id hit it/ they suck/ they rule / hype/ blah"

I know frankie is playing drums for crystal stilts now, and they will be touring together, but is she still in the vivian girls?
her name is no longer on their myspace page.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 9:06 AM

that band is gonna suck without frankie

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 9:13 AM

ali is a rad drummer, frankie wasn't keith moon or anything

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 9:27 AM

you speak of frankie like it's fucking keith moon ot something. jesus. two years ago she didn't what the hell a set of drums was so let's put some perspective on this people. just like the jesus & marcy chain switched to a drum machine for their second record, i really don't think it matters who might be behind the kit, sitting or standing. all the band wants is a chick with tatts.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 9:27 AM

they're the buggles of '08. period.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 9:32 AM

mmm...red.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 9:43 AM

guys BV views are down 7% over last three months! wtf are you guys doing about it?! make some better comments please.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 9:44 AM

9:27

The band will be fine without Frankie, but "just another chick with tats" what are you from 1955 or something? I think all the promo for Cry Baby the musical is getting into your head. Drop the tough guy misogynist shtick.

This band writes good songs. Why do you think they're catching fire way faster and more intensely than the Coathangers did a years ago (who had all the hype machine of Vice behind them, btw, and were more classically model-esque women as well)? It's because they're fucking good.

I would never claim sexism, but what the fuck? You guys won't take this band seriously because they happen to be attractive women.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 9:44 AM

almost there people.. 90 and counting.. cmon we can do this. not for me.. we're doing this for vivian girls everywhere... i'd hit it.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 9:45 AM

All my coathangers are white. I'm not racist, don't call me no Johnny Rotten, I'm just sayin', all the instruments for hanging my coats at home, yeah, they're all white. As for VG, one can only guess this time next year all the talk will be on a different set of chicklettes with tattoos that are equally inept at holding/playing their instruments. Fear not my friends, the next flash in the pan will be on the way soon.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 9:49 AM

95th YOU BITCHES!!! come on, only a few more fuckers!

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 9:50 AM

oh man I cant believe it, didnt Frankie also play the bass guitar in the band? Thats weird how all her pictures are gone and shit and the new girl is in there?

Actually, 9:44, Brooklyn Vegan's overall hits are up 10%, but the unique page views per user are down 7%.

(all of this is according to http://www.alexa.com/data/details/traffic_details/brooklynvegan.com )

What does that mean? Most likely, it means more people are looking at the site, but fewer people are reading and posting on the threads.

I know (at least anecdotally) that people are getting turned off by the meathead attitude of the comments here and are tuning out of the conversations. They still read the initial posts, but fewer people are using Brooklyn Vegan as a forum.

In other words, you asshole windbags and your "I'd hit it"'s and "What time does Daft Punk Go On"'s and the general know-nothing shittalk fest that dominates all the time are killing this site as a salon for interesting people to talk about interesting things intelligently.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 9:59 AM

yeah, it's strange. did they get in a fight and frankie was like, i'm taking my sticks and splittin' babe. or what?

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 9:59 AM

Agyness D's tears were turning into hoarse gasps. "What's all this then?" she choked. "Why won't they let me be a Vivian Girl? A proper band, this. You wonder if 'Tell the World' is any cop but all the songs are sorted. They look the business but they're no lot of dolly birds. Their ink is fookin' ace, innit?" She looked me in the eye. "I would even cut a line of tossers to see them at McCarren Pool." It was a test of my moral resolve, and I was unsure if I could bear it. "No, Agyness," I stammered. "No."

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:00 AM

there was never talk like this for the Coathangers.

In fact I can't remember this much talk about any band this young, male or female.

geez, maybe they might not be the flash in a pan that you're so sure they are?

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:02 AM

say what dude? they are playing McCarren pool? that would be so cool and awesome if they joined Black Lips on stage for a song or two.

although yeah please can we have an explanation why there is a new drummer in the band?

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:04 AM

"you speak of frankie like it's fucking keith moon ot something. jesus. two years ago she didn't what the hell a set of drums was so let's put some perspective on this people. just like the jesus & marcy chain switched to a drum machine for their second record, i really don't think it matters who might be behind the kit, sitting or standing. all the band wants is a chick with tatts."

If I think I'm correct in saying this band did not know what a Holy Grail was before Frankie . Also, I'm fairly confident in saying she wrote some of their best songs. Its going to be interesting to see what becomes of the Vivian Girls.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:07 AM

100++++ yea!!!!!! CELEBRATE GOOD TIME COME ON!!!! Happy days are here again la dadadada

I love you all.

but for so many comments this thread has been kinda boring actually.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:09 AM

Keith moon or no Keith moon . Frankie was not just a drummer. That band is not gonna be the same.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:11 AM

to be honest I thought the drummer was the best part of the band. when they played the yard she grabbed the bass guitar and played some john entwistle worthy grooves. she will be missed.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:14 AM

Hmmm. Wow. Guess The Crystal Stilts gets to keep the best part of Vivian Girls.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:16 AM

hey guys i saw the v girls back when they had their original drummer what do you think of that? i also own a copy of the first pressing of their album. it is different fromt he new pressing in that it does not have an in the red logo on it. is that worth 73$ you be the judge

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:16 AM

Well Frankie cant make it, things are just too hard
Frankie cant make neough money, Frankie cant buy enough food
And Frankie's getting evicted, oh let's hear it for Frankie
Oh Frankie Frankie
Oh Frankie Frankie

Posted by Alan Vega | July 31, 2008 10:21 AM

wowowow! I saw crystal stilts last friday that was her? couldnt tell from distance, but the drummer was definitely the best part of that band. the singer has to get better or ship out, my opinion. dude- work on your stage presence and get some voice lessons, for christs sakes!

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:23 AM

What happened? Frankie was one of the main songwriters in VGS. She was a very important part of what I enjoyed about that band. Such a shame.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:27 AM

NEW DRUMMER NOT AS CUTE

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:29 AM

frankie used to serve me espresso in greenpoint. is that worth $73?

and on a side note...everyone, with a tear in my eye, we're at 100+ now and going strong and it just........sniffle, makes me so proud!

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:29 AM

where in greenpoint did Frankie serve espresso?

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:31 AM

i really dont get the shitstorm surrounding this band. sorry. the hype is way bigger than their musical output.

Posted by Thurston More | July 31, 2008 10:32 AM

NEW DRUMMER FAT

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:34 AM

Another day, another controversy. ao, is someone gonna get to the bottom of this "Frankie-gate", or are we gonna circle jerk this topic all day?

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:40 AM

FRANKIE SAY RELAX

What time does Daft Punk hit it?

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:41 AM

Didn't Frankie write like one song?
Plus, the chick couldn't play

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:43 AM

Unbelievable 10:34. we have reached new lows.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:43 AM

Frankie was a main songwiter. I think that band might fail without her telling them what to do.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:47 AM

None them can play . But who cares.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:50 AM

this is just like when Pete Best got kicked out of the Beatles...

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:51 AM

the comments section here has become so meta it's ridiculous. i can't even see where the fourth wall used to be.

Posted by grace6697 | July 31, 2008 10:52 AM

Frankie wrote 2 songs total for Vivian Girls. She was not the main songwriter.

I think she just wanted to play with Crystal Stilts a lot and it's not easy to be in two bands simultaneously that are both blowing up.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:54 AM

Frankie wrote anything that was good on that album. BAND WILL SUCK without her.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:56 AM

I think Frankie wanted to be in Crystal Stilts morethan The Vivian Girls. I think she still works at that coffeeshop in Greenpoint.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:58 AM

the espresso place in greenpoint will suck without her! was it read on bedford ave? because that kind of sucked already! no wi-fi! how are we supposed to drink espresso and read about frankie!

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:58 AM

ok hold on there, people in the know, that was not Frankie on the drums at south stree seaport last friday, was it? she joined this week?

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 10:58 AM

Swarthmore College? What're they, going to play the score from "Dungeons and Dragons"?

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:00 AM

Thurston Moore served me espresso at the Starbucks on Manhattan Avenue, but it wasn't the same without Frankie,

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:02 AM

you guys are all running down there to put the application in? dont worry I dont think Frankie is quitting that job anytime soon.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:03 AM

I saw her there on wed. dont think she quit.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:07 AM

silent barn, silent tears, silent pain, because frankie’s not here. market hotel, private hell, espresso’s cold, muffin mold

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:09 AM

ok dude, I'd like to call you out: you think it's funny to rile people up and get them to defend this or that about the band. You just want a lively argument and lots of comments and don't mean half of what you say.

But you know what? you're a huge prick and an even bigger pussy.

You are posting cruel, vile things about a bunch of 20 year old kids. Calling women fat, not pretty, saying that the band can't play, exaggerating every detail you can think of, just to get a response. What you are doing is totally weaselly and childish.

You think it's HILARIOUS to insult this band and get their defenders riled up. You just want entertainment. Has it occurred to you that the members of this band (who're hardly rich or famous or rockstars) will read the fucked up shit you're throwing out here just to get a rise?

You will never know what it's like to have a bunch of fat, limp dick internet nerds attack you, meta or otherwise, because you will never produce anything that becomes an iota as popular as the Vivian Girls have, and they've hardly been heard by anyone at all.

And anyway, you, coward that you are, could never weather this kind of critical shitstorm. And on top of that, you could NEVER say this to these girls in person, to their faces. You haven't got the balls and these ladies would tear you a new asshole in a minute.

Why don't you post a link to your myspace so we can know the face of this big man is who thinks it's funny to insult other people anonymously?

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:14 AM

Frankie baby? where have you gone?

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:15 AM

Frankie was smart to leave. If my band had this much shitty ,cruel ,hype written I would leave to.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:20 AM

frankie was the weakest link in that band. she messed up her beats all the time

where do you run to is a catchy song, but only in that by rote phil spector sort of way.

the songs cassie writes are a lot more interesting, lyrically and musically.

tell the world and never see me again are their best, most angsty songs.

frankie's songs were kinda flat and ordinary by comparison. they'll be tighter and angrier without her.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:24 AM

bwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa hahahahahaha.......etc.

Posted by your own sense of retardation | July 31, 2008 11:24 AM

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:25 AM

Ever heard Bossy? worst band ever. I rest my case. Thats where V girls is headed.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:28 AM

this thing used to have a lot more interesting and smart comments than what you see today.

11:24 is too young to remember.

I'm pegging him at about 14.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:28 AM

Frankie was really unhappy in that band . Think they wanted someone more committed. I thinks shes happy in crystal stilts. I do think she is a gifted song writer however, and her leaving the Vivians will make a dramatic change in the band .

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:31 AM

did you guys see Jonathan Kane's February yesterday? now that was a tight rock show. these girls got to practice more and get tight like that. also Peg Simone, who played this show with Kane, wow! amazing guitarist and very very smoking hot. http://www.myspace.com/pegsimone

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:33 AM

>where in greenpoint did Frankie serve espresso?

greenpoint coffee house. she was often in a bad mood too. of course, that could be because of v girl issues, who knows.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:33 AM

Bossy were rad actually, but you're right, they were nothing like Vivian Girls.

Frankie had zero to do with what's different about the two bands though. Cassie writes Vivian Girl's best songs, and plays all the noisy angry guitar parts.

The couple of throwaway songs that Frankie wrote were a lot closer to Bossy's twee pop than Cassie's VG songs are. In Vivian G', Cassie has found her inner Greg Sage / Kurt Cobain.

Frankie was the least punk member of the band, by a mile!

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:34 AM

Where do you run to ? Best song on that L.P. Frankie's songs are great.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:36 AM

For real, is Frankie "officially" out of the band? If so, that would be a shame.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:36 AM

what in god's name is 11:34 talking about?

Posted by jesus h | July 31, 2008 11:36 AM

Frankie was barely a part of Vivian Girls, she didn't write more than two songs, and her drumming was just average. Her leaving the band won't make a lot of difference

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:37 AM

"

in a "phil Spector kind of way?" do you even know who that is? i'm pegging you at 19

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:39 AM

frankie's songs are just average novelty ronnettes style girl group songs. catchy, but nothing special.

the cassie songs have got a lot fresher sound and a harder edge

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:42 AM

Frankie totally was off constantly. I've seen the band at least five times at this point. She's just an ok drummer.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:44 AM

Ha ha! Least punk? Anyone who knows these girls know thats the funniest and most backwards comment up here 11:34

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:44 AM

Frankie was kicked out. Frankie wrote 1 song and a few parts of other songs. New drummer Ali is an actual drummer.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:45 AM

11:39. phil spector is largely famous for his wall of sound production on girl group harmony bands.

frankie's song, where do you run to, is an homage to exactly that kind of band and that sound.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:46 AM

was ali in another band before this? I remember her from somewhere, i think i saw her at old North 6.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:48 AM

She wanted to leave that band for ages. it always put her in terrible moods.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:49 AM

the members of this band are totally from punk.

anyone who knows these girls knows that cassie and katie are straight out of the basement punk hc scene in new brunswick, whereas frankie couldn't stand when the band got booked with punk or hardcore bands.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:49 AM

These girls are from upper middle class new Jersey. PUNK!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:51 AM

regardless. This band will not be the same without frankies songwriting. Good or bad.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:53 AM

"Frankie was kicked out. Frankie wrote 1 song and a few parts of other songs. New drummer Ali is an actual drummer."

That band made her miserable. Good work on leaving!

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:56 AM

oh damn. can we go 200+? keep it up!

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 11:58 AM

Cassie is a good songwriter but has no delivery. I think Frankie helped her out with that.I also enjoyed the songs Frankie wrote. garagy and simple.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:01 PM

Wait, how does anyone even know who wrote what song? They didn't put that info in the liner notes...

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:03 PM

I think they all wrote them together. give or take. i think cassie wrote a lot of the earliest songs.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:05 PM

hey 11:14...

you made some great points but unfortunately you come off just as bad as the person you were addressing by calling them "an even bigger pussy". "pussy" is not just demeaning to the person you're insulting, but demeaning to all women as well.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:15 PM

11:34

I don't think it was ever in Frankie's agenda to be
"PUNK" ,as you put it. So if its vgs aim to be "PUNK" its for the best that Frankie quit.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:20 PM

It seems like Frankie sent her goon squad to the internet to fight for her honor

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:21 PM

Frankie was kicked out of the band, I don't think she "wanted to leave for ages"

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:30 PM

She wanted to quit. She left for Crystal stilts.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:32 PM

I remember some of the other members complaining about her lack of interest in Viv girls. I think she preferred the other band. They wanted to tour more or something

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:34 PM

11:14, I'm sure you're exactly the sort of person who has answer worked out for this question, so please indulge me:

why is it ok that 11:14 used the word "prick" to refer to something negative in a person, but using the word "pussy" is out of line and sexist?

women don't have pricks, men don't have pussies, both are gender specific and both are used to insult people and refer to negative qualities.

please explain why one is unacceptable and the other is just fine by you.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:36 PM

It's true. Frankie was always complaining about how she wanted to quit. maybe its just a good thing all around.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:37 PM

obviously, the 1st '11:15' there should have been '12:20'

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:38 PM

crystal stilts are ok. Vivian Girls are more interesting and are going places however.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:39 PM

frankie rose is just kind of a moody, complaining sort of gal

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:40 PM

Just how i like em...

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:42 PM

Moody . Perfect for Crystal Stilts.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:43 PM

12:36..

it's not ok to say prick but all these comments have been directed towards the v-girls.

ps...i'd rather not indulge you...you haven't even bought me dinner.

"I'm sure you're exactly the sort of person" ....can you explain that remark? you have a book full of people listed by "types"....what "type" am i?

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:43 PM

she was fired.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:43 PM

she quit

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:45 PM

if she quit, why did they have a new drummer trained and ready to go immediately?

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:45 PM

If she was fired , I dont care what anyone says. That was a mistake. Those high harmonys! Lordy!

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:47 PM

I think that girl Ali or ellie had filled in for Frankie before so she knew the songs

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:48 PM

I think something about Frankie, too, but would everyone please stop the bickering and tell me what time Daft Punk goes on?

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:51 PM

12:43, let me explain something to you. It's ok to use any word you want to express yourself.

Prick and pussy are perfectly fine, harmless words.

In fact, all words are harmless. It's what you say with them that can be hurtful.

Regardless, using the word "pussy" to mean a coward is so far removed from the meaning of the word as female genitalia that only a women's studies grad student would think of that connotation when the other is intended.

We had this argument in the 90's, remember? Your side was so shrill and wrongheaded that it helped get all those conservatives elected.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:51 PM

another day another drama. who cares. Quit fired.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:51 PM

12:43, that's a lot of snappy comebacks but you don't actually respond to any of the other guy's point there, do you?

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 12:57 PM

12:43...

"It's ok to use any word you want to express yourself."

ignorance is bliss, i guess.

I'm not hearing any ignorance in 12:51 (who you called 12:43).

sounds pretty informed and reasonable to me, particularly in comparison to your 1 dimensional political correctness vibe.

I mean seriously, who gets bent out of shape because someone uses "pussy", half in jest?

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 1:07 PM

12:57 sounded like yelling to you? do you have dog ears?

The Vivian Girls are now ready for major label support.

Previously, it was uncouth to bash their hype. Now, as they are legitimately rich and famous, all future derision shall be deemed acceptable.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 1:54 PM

TAKE IT EASY EVERYBODY.

Don't you schmucks think they read this shit? I'm referring to the amateur anonymous stabs. In fact the girls are probably the only ones that even give a fat fuck about this thread.

I have a feeling that jealousy is a big part of any negative attention that a band gets. i remember when the strokes came out i was pissed and hated them cause they made music that was similar (not exactly) to what I was going for and i hated that they were so easily accepted as the next big thing - but here at the tail end of the 00s, their first ep and LP are not bad at all. If you don't like the music then why are you at this remote part of the internet? If you actually are a closet fan then don't talk shit... I bet half of you don't own a record player- let alone have a Vivian Gs record.

If anyone would like to chat this out please email me. PLEASE COME TO THE SHOW ON FRIDAY AND TALK TO FRANKIE, ALI, CASSIE AND KATY or ME!!!!!!!!!!!!

You dont think a member of Crystal Stilts answering all the bullshit on here is interesting?

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 2:06 PM

With all these competing views on such a wide range of subject matter, I just don't know who to look to tell me what to think anymore.

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 2:10 PM

Ok, since there's so many "experts" here on what happened with the lineup change or what-have-you, I'm going to have to try and compete with your theories, but I'm game.

Here it is, controversial as shit:

It wasn't working out.

Frankie is going to go on to do great things, with the Crystal Stilts and whatever she chooses to do.

The Vivian Girls are going to keep going with their new drummer and they're going to sound good.

Vivian Girls LP/CD re-released on In The Red soon, along with a new 7"

Crystal Stilts LP/CD on Slumberland soon, Woodsist just reissued their EP and single on 12" and CDEP format.

Now everyone whine some more about how there's two interesting guitar-oriented bands from Brooklyn getting deserved attention.

And don't let Cause Co-Motion get lost in the sauce, because they are great as well!

Posted by Anonymous | July 31, 2008 2:15 PM

what were we talking about again here?

oh, that's right...

208th BITCHES!!!

wow, really, people, words fail to say how impressed i am at your interest here. it's touching beyond belief. and whomever the next set of young tatt wearing awkward holding instrument chicklets may be, we can all see that they'll have their work cut out for them to try and generate more interest than this.

This band won't be around in a year. It has nothing to do with hype, talent, or gender. Katy and Ali don't have the attention span to stick with one project for that long.

who is this ass who thinks the phrase "brooklyn chicklets with tattoos" is so clever?

he keeps repeating it and shoving it down our throats like it's comedy genius.

All this whining about how overrated this band is actually got me to sit down and listen to the record. It's actually pretty good. Let it go, guys.

Help me understand:
If you don't care about a band you don't read the article, let alone leave a comment, right? Or have i been doing it wrong all these years?

Posted by Dumb | August 1, 2008 3:45 PM

i maintain that this band is crappy.
