zia had divine snoobs at the beginning of that movie. all hail the jiggle.

the rest of the movie wasn't that bad either.

Narr: "what's that blood from?"
Anton: "From PEOPLE'S FACES"

The new album isn't any good. But Dig is a great film.

Posted by anonymous2 | July 25, 2008 9:41 AM

i'm going, but i'm not sure if i'd rather a kickass rock show or a night of entertainment in the form of megalomaniacal ranting and shoving around on stage... i'll take either, really.

Yeah there new album is very derivative of old BJM, without any of the same pizazz. Hopefully they will stick to back catalog tonight, although hearing "Who pissed in my fucking well" might not be too bad. At very least the song titles have remained, shall we say, "original." On another note, I pretty sure I saw Anton last night at a Korean restaurant, he was with a very young girl and was the most sober I've ever seen him.

best thing BV has done in a while. always wanted to see this again after barely seeing it on sundance

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 10:10 AM

Do you think there is a possibility of this selling out before I get there around 9?

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 10:10 AM

is anton still crazy? if not, i don't want to see BJM. dig! is such a good documentary. although i had to look at the singer of the dandy warhol's face for an extended period of time, it was still worth it.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 10:10 AM

also wtf terminal 5. why can't they just close that place already.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 10:12 AM

10:10, i doubt it. bjm is notorious in some circles, but they're not huge. the rancoteurs sold out the venue, but they had hits on the radio; plug awards featured nick cave and was not sold out, as i recall. i think you've got a good chance there.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 10:24 AM

10:10 Pt. II - Yes, Anton is still crazy. Not as keen as getting into onstage brawls, but we're talking "A Scanner Darkly"-class paranoid megalomania. Invite him for a cuppa coffee and you'll get the works, provided he doesn't bite you in the neck or sum'n.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 10:30 AM

He kind of looks like Jared Leto in the picture.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 11:41 AM

I once saw them and between all of Anton's rants they magaed to play 4 songs in an hour. A total waste of money..

the documentary was excellent..Jusr wished they had used live recordings instead of overdubbing studio tracks for most of their performance footage.

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 11:48 AM

Actually Anton is still crazy and they still do get in fights. Last one was in the UK in mid July

Does anyone know what time BJM hit the stage? I want to know if I can make it from Atlas Sound to Terminal 5 in time. Thanks.

A very much compelling drama...must watch this documentary about the music industry !

Posted by Denise | July 25, 2008 2:08 PM

I loved the dopey A & R people: "Anton's a genius!" Yeah, suuure he's a genius. I mean, all those ringing basic open-chords and that medicore singing? Who else can possibly do that? Don't get me wrong, Adam Shore got GBV on TVT back in the 90's, so I'll forgive him for bein' overly ambitious. But jesus, anyone callin' that Anton brilliant wouldn't know music if it bit them on the ass.

BJM is one of the best live acts around when they actually play music, and are feeling it. Before DiG!, they would have the internal meltdowns, but very little audience angst, and would usually put on a great show for hours and hours (I saw them play for 5 hours one night at two separate venues).

After DiG! came out, all the kids were just trying to get under Anton's skin, and many of the shows ended up being hate-fests between the stage and crowd. I watched them open for the Dandys a couple years ago in PDX and the killed it. Amazing. We left halfway through the Dandy's set because, compared to BJM, the Dandys looked like a bunch of rockstar poseurs.

last friday night i went out drinking, heavily. when i returned to my buddy's apt., i watched DiG! after spending a week in acting classes w/ teachers who were truly concerned with craft, not celebrity, i became utterly outraged that the entertainment industry would spend money and hype artists like Anton Newcombe.

with that being said, here's how i expressed myself:

19 Jul 2008, 05:15 AM

Subject: joke

Body:
how dare you consider yourself an artist. i am watching, but i'm not done so maybe i'm full of shit, the film dIG!. is that a@R rep still working in the business? i hope not. if people like her make decisions on which artists get contracts then LA is further fucked then i ever imagined.

seriously, stop your crap if the rest of this film is like the first half i saw. there are people who are dedicating themselves to the crafts of acting and music and yet, bands like you get contracts? fuck fuck fuck.

rename yourself to the george w. bush massacre.

ps: after i watch the rest of the movie this may all change. so fuck me, possibly.

cheers,
monky

next post:

19 Jul 2008, 05:41 AM

Subject: worse

Body:
then your musical friends have a semi'hit and you write a song to mock them?

fuck fuck fuck and fuck yOU!

ps: this may again, change, depending on the end of the film.

NEXT

19 Jul 2008, 05:50 AM

Subject: ummm

Body:
you definitely shoulda fired dershinki. totally unprofessional for him to judge and insist on keeping the tour going no matter who quit. not his role. total misunerstanding as to what a mgr. does

NEXT

19 Jul 2008, 06:01 AM

Subject: A&R is easy?

Body:
yeah coke must be easy too.

NEXT

19 Jul 2008, 06:08 AM

Subject: you compared???

Body:
yourselves to a stones beathles rivalry. EAT SHIT FROM A DOGGIE BOWL!

that is more obnoxious than paris hilton rushing the stage at the oscars to steal an acadamy award from a real actor.

fuck off.

NEXT

19 Jul 2008, 06:23 AM

Subject: sorry.

Body:
nothing changed. your loss is because you don't know the difference between notoriety/celebrity and quality. i have a friend who works as a bellsouth linemen all day and writes better guitar and electronica songs than any of what i heard on diG!

fuckin' a.

THE END

Posted by monky | July 25, 2008 3:09 PM

i think monky brained his damage

Posted by Anonymous | July 25, 2008 3:20 PM

@Monky - Lay off the sauce!

Posted by blackhat | July 25, 2008 4:41 PM

clarification.

all that ranting was only about The BJM and sent in my space messages to the band's page there.

think anton will come find me and kick me in the face?

Posted by monky | July 25, 2008 4:46 PM

Posted by Anonymous | July 26, 2008 1:38 PM

SETLIST:
1. Bullshit 3 chord song played midtempo w/ lyrics about "Revolution"
2. MBV rip-off
3. Spacemen 3 rip-off about sticking it to "The Man"
4. Bullshit 3 chord song played midtempo w/ lyrics about "Revolution"
5. Fake British accent
6. a 13 girl who just traded in her emo lifestyle for rock yells "I love you, Anton!"
7. Ride rip-off

ENCORE: Bullshit 3 chord song played midtempo w/ lyrics about "Revolution"

Posted by Glocken Spiel | July 26, 2008 2:10 PM

i smoked h with anton

Posted by Anonymous | July 27, 2008 12:49 AM

You chord counters need to shut the fuck up already.

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 10:09 AM

that was an amazing show 1:38. were you somewhere else? quit all your hating and listen to the music as a whole instead of just chord counts. even pink floyd has many songs that are based on 3 chords. do your research!
