"Dr Rock" always makes a solid closer only topped by the over-theatrical "Someday".

Nice set.

Posted by Brad | July 28, 2008 2:49 AM

the girls at the cut chemist show were cuter.

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 4:50 AM

Great show all around. By far the best of the outdoor series in nyc this year.

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 8:35 AM

Mutilated Lips was transcendent! The lights were great, the crowd was great, the weather was great, my buzz was great (just enough of everything!)!!

It seemed like the crowd at this pay show was not so Brooklyn, not so pretentious. Maybe that's Ween vs. a douchebag band like MGMT.

Posted by Freepster | July 28, 2008 8:59 AM

Is Ween aproporiate for the youngins?

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 9:06 AM

"It seemed like the crowd at this pay show was not so Brooklyn, not so pretentious. Maybe that's Ween vs. a douchebag band like MGMT."

nah if ween was free it would have been the same

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 9:18 AM

Oh, they're so weird and crazy...and, the fans...whoa...weird and crazy too!

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 9:26 AM

"Oh, they're so weird and crazy"

don't forget enormously talented.

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 9:42 AM

Were there any tapers at the show? it rocked my allsbay off!

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 9:53 AM

No "Piss Up a Rope" or "Push th' Little Daisies"? Meh.

"Tig Ole Bitties" isn't a Ween song, is it? If not, what self-respecting woman would be seen with a guy wearing that T-shirt? I'm sure he told her he was wearing it ironically.

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 9:55 AM

Just don't post another picture of the hot cellist from ra ra riot okay? I can do without those nonsense comments.

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 9:58 AM

9:55 --

Go do yr fem-whining at the Ra Ra Riot thread.

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 9:59 AM

9:55, she's lucky I didn't wear my "10 REASONS BEER IS BETTER THAN A WOMAN" T-shirt!

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 10:15 AM

That Dr. Rock looked amazing!

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 10:19 AM

Great shots! Great show!

Ween has never compromised. They are great. I personally was laughing my ass off and enjoying the shit out of The Party.

Posted by Piss Promise | July 28, 2008 10:57 AM

set list looks great- too bad ween sucks now

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 11:10 AM

"set list looks great- too bad ween sucks now"

Says the contrarian douche not even in attendance. I've been a Ween fan for awhile, but had never gotten a chance to see them before and it was seriously one of the best concerts I've ever been to. No opening act, just 4 straight hours of Ween kicking ass. They actually had to get a court-ordered ruling from a Brooklyn judge to make them stop rocking, otherwise they'd still be playing as we speak.

Posted by Brian Farrelly | July 28, 2008 11:36 AM

11:36, youre a real "ween-er"!

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 11:52 AM

"the girls at the cut chemist show were cuter."

dude who goes to ween to look at the girls?

dumbass

Posted by Jessica | July 28, 2008 11:55 AM

I was a bit bummed that audience and the set vibe was a bit more hippie than usual. Yes, I know Ween brings out the hippies but they don't always play straight to them for the bulk of the set.

That being said the closing Dr. Rock made up for the excessive jamming earlier in the night. They need to bring Sketches of Winkle back into the set. Seeing them play that at a show about a decade ago (daaaaamn!) was one of my favorite concert going moments.

This show was definitely technically great, but I prefer them to stick on the country and metal, and just skim the jammy stuff.

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 12:02 PM

WEEN SUCKS!!!!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 12:14 PM

i had the best time at that party!

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 12:15 PM

this show was the highlight of the summer!
WEEN ROCKS!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 12:20 PM

Such a great show. The band just came out and crushed it. Just played the shit out of their songs for a huge crowd. The night was perfect (cool and breezy), the venue was more hassle free than it's been in the past (beer lines), and the fans were into it. Best show I'd seen all summer... till I saw Bruce last night at Giant's Stadium.

Posted by bigandtall | July 28, 2008 12:37 PM

there were unreal, great live band, crowd i can live without.

Posted by Sorry I missed your party | July 28, 2008 2:02 PM

Best ween show in a long career of great ween shows. The beers were warm, the breeze was cool, and the rastafarian raggae junky jews sure knew how to spin. Fat Gene makes me hate skinny gene. I saved a balloon for late night.

Go Phillies!

PS> I saw Cindy Crawford at the Diet Coke stand.

Posted by red run | July 28, 2008 2:02 PM

WEEN IS A TERRIBLE BAND!!! NOTHING COOL ABOUT THEM AT ALL!
IF YOU LISTEN TO THEM YOUR A FAG!

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 3:01 PM

... they should be in the same catagory as Phish, MOE. and Grateful Dead.....all garbage!!!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 3:03 PM

Ween actually are in the same category as Phish and The Grateful Dead(Moe. is not up to par, IMO, but anyway). Say what you want, all those bands have brutally loyal fanbase and don't give two shits if you like them or not.

Posted by Zatzbatz | July 28, 2008 3:53 PM

we were there. we had a rockin good time. of course there are lonely a-holes who have low self worth. therefore they have to piss on this comments list about how ween sucks. all that mindless "look at me, pay attention to me". ween's just like every band in the universe, some like 'em some don't. so why don't all you suckers go take a piss somewhere else.

ween are true artists, never compromising their sound just to sell records. and look at them today, touring the world and packing out mccarren pool. all you "ween sucks" jerk offs couldn't sell out a phone booth.

boognish forever!!!

Posted by gargantuan | July 28, 2008 3:54 PM

I have seen Ween many times over the years and this show was fucking great. What an excellent night. The people saying Ween are a terrible band are probably the Deacon/Death Set etc listeners. Who cares what they think. You can discard them like yesterday's trash.

A couple of totally stoned people making comments on here though

"No opening act, just 4 straight hours of Ween kicking ass. "

How did a 2 1/2 hour show turn into 4 hours?

"Best show I'd seen all summer... till I saw Bruce last night at Giant's Stadium."

Was this your first Bruce show? Then I might be able to understand that statement. I was at the show last night. Good as usual but not one of his most outstanding shows. Giants stadium shows suck dick. Although the people in the pit i was jealous of.

"PS> I saw Cindy Crawford at the Diet Coke stand."

Yeah i was high as a kite also and i thought i saw Paris Hilton blowing a dude by the bathrooms.Cindy Crawford was not there.

And to Anon 12:02 if you have been seeing Ween for a number of years you would know that they have been "jamming" like that for a while now. And it rules.

Posted by A Manhattan Not Brooklyn Asshole | July 28, 2008 3:55 PM

ween rule.

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 4:00 PM

granted, bad attempt at a bit referencing the diet coke ad w cindy crawford.

Cindy Crawford shilled for Pepsi (or Diet Pepsi).

novelty act

are songs about flatulence, gay people, foreign people, and disease really that interesting?

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 5:22 PM

No. I would much rather hear about playing under the table and dreaming.

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 5:27 PM

this band has no balls, boring as shit !!!

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 5:32 PM

good show, good place.

My first time there and it was cool to see it before it goes, but that sound echo off the back wall is pretty rough. strange acoustics in that place

Posted by Steven | July 28, 2008 5:45 PM

Great show.
F the haters-
anyone who was at the show knows that Ween rule.
Thanks for sharing your pics.

Posted by ToadInOhio | July 28, 2008 6:00 PM

I've been to 50+ Ween shows and this was a goodun'...Cool people nice sound (thanks Kirk-as always). If you don't like Ween thats OK...go listen to Modest Mouse or MGMT you pretentious hipster cocksmoker.

Great people + Great music + Great weather + GREAT drugs = GREAT SHOW.

Posted by glen one N | July 28, 2008 6:12 PM

^^^ You had me until you put Modest Mouse into the the same category as crappy MGMT. How many drugs did you do yesterday?

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 7:05 PM

5:22 - Yeah, a 20-year novelty act. I'm sure the novelty will wear off soon though and then you'll have the uniterrupted seriousness you've been yearning for. Yay!

Posted by Anonymous` | July 28, 2008 7:23 PM

Ween was the ultimate cosmic goof of the alternative rock era, a prodigiously talented and deliriously odd duo whose work traveled far beyond the constraints of parody and novelty into the heart of surrealist ecstasy. Despite a mastery for seemingly every mutation of the musical spectrum, the group refused to play it straight; in essence, Ween was bratty deconstructionists, kicking dirt on the pop world around them with demented glee.

Posted by Gemstones | July 28, 2008 8:35 PM

The Ween duo formed in suburban New Hope, PA, in 1984, when 14-year-olds Mickey Melchiondo and Aaron Freeman adopted their respective fraternal aliases, Dean and Gene Ween, and cut the first of literally thousands of home recordings. At about the same time Freeman -- working under the name Synthetic Socks -- issued an eponymous 1987 solo cassette on the fledgling TeenBeat label, Ween released its own debut tape, The Crucial Squeegie Lip, on their own Bird O' Pray imprint... a bit of history for Ween followers.

Posted by Anonymous | July 28, 2008 9:28 PM

I actually didn't mean that Bruce was better than WEEN... But it was a great Bruce show, and no, not my first. A good weekend of music all around.

Posted by bigandtall | July 28, 2008 11:27 PM

Listen to "So Many People In the Neighborhood" and see where Battles got the song "Atlas"

"Is Ween appropriate for the youngins?"...
Hmmmmm... well, probably not. But I'd rather have my kids growing up listening to real music, rather than the mind-numbing tunes put out by the "appropriate" kiddy bands.
(p.s. .... My daughter is the blond in the Ween hat)

amazing evening! didn't feel like I was in Williamsburg, either, which is a great thing. no pretentious dicks. I'm so glad theres "nothing cool about them at all." For once at a Brooklyn show I didn't have to look at a bunch of whiny assholes.

Posted by Dr. Rock | July 29, 2008 3:08 PM

Awesome pictures, Awesome show, and what an Awesome time I had.

I saw Ween in Albany a couple of years ago and that was good, but this show blew it out of the water. I have never herd booze before and now it has become one of my favorites. Bananas and Blow was great, I have always wanted to hear them preform that. Marble tulip juicy tree was also another good one. Someone yelled it out near us and then they said sounds good lets play it. It is nice to see a band that is so open to making fans happy. The weather was fantastic for an outdoor concert, as stated before "The night was perfect (cool and breezy)". It was my first time to be in McCarren Pool, that was an experience of its own. I will be definitely be going back to take a dip.

I was up front and some mash pit was starting, at first I was like ah shit, but after awhile it was a good time. I saw someone with a blow up dinosaur that was great.

9:55-Relax Susan B. The girl I am with loves that kind of shit. You need to lighten up and laugh a little bit, makes life a bit more enjoyable.

Ween is such a great band to see live. When they stroll around again, I will be there!

Posted by Anonymous | July 29, 2008 7:35 PM

I've been to about a dozen ween shows and they never disappoint. They are one of the most solidly consistent bands around. Friday night's show rocked. Had a very brown time.
