Has anyone nominated BV for PETA's Sexiest Vegetarian Blogger contest? http://blog.peta.org/archives/2008/07/whos_the_sexies.php

Re: 3:10

Some band trying to save Rock 'n' Roll again.

News Flash band. What you're holdin' aint really broken.

Rock 'n' Roll is fine, and if it did need saving it's likely you wouldn't get the job done.

I've heard they're not letting any more people into McCarren Pool. It's full, apparently.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2008 4:23 PM

that would make this the first sell out in free show history at the hipster pool.

can't wait to read the massive complaint thread later today.

more annie clark pictures please

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2008 4:54 PM

I wanted to go but was scared I might get shut out or something. Shame, everyone runs when it is free, but I had extra tickets for webster hall and no one wanted to buy them.

What is the set time for the Club Exit show? (Especially Team R and Matt & Kim)

Posted by pants | July 13, 2008 5:31 PM

I really want to go to that. But isn't 18 bucks a tad steep?

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2008 6:39 PM

please.. more annie pix... especially of her legs!

4:48 it filled up to full capacity last year for the annuals show, what are you talking about? and it'll probably do the same for MGMT who seem to have a vampire weekend-sized following these days.

anyone have breeders setlist?

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2008 9:04 PM

The Breeders played a lot of good songs. The sound was terrible, but I don't know if that's because of the soundman or the band....

Posted by Regular reader | July 13, 2008 9:18 PM

sound certainly wasn't terrible b/c of the band... they sounded awesome at webster hall.

set was very similar to webster hall one: started w/ tipp city, then (not in order) shocker in gloomtown, invisible man, iris, divine hammer, happiness is a warm gun, cannonball, no aloha, i just wanna get along, drivin' on 9, 1st song off Pacer, plus a bunch of songs from the new album which i don't have ("i love no one, no one loves me," here no more), plus other shit i'm forgetting.

"The Breeders played a lot of good songs. The sound was terrible, but I don't know if that's because of the soundman or the band...."

Uh, they are playing outdoors in a former pool. Seriously? Read the interview with Britt from Spoon to see why outdoor shows are more about being outside in the summer and drinking beer than actually listening to music.

Some of the new songs The Breeders played at mccarren were "Overglazed" and "Bang On."

Posted by Sarah | July 13, 2008 11:04 PM

during soundcheck, kim sang the alphabet. it was pretty cool and educational.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2008 11:04 PM

I've been to quite a few shows at mccarren pool and I actually was impressed by how good The Breeders sounded today.

Posted by anonymous | July 13, 2008 11:16 PM

The Whip were all right, they had the crowd going, but the singer didn't speak to the audience and their music sounded like noise at points and was way too repetitive. Matt and Kim were fun. They did a few covers, great classics, performed three songs with the rude mechanical orchestra, and were all smiley and happy. You can check the setlist by clicking on the hyperlink over my name. The Breeders were great! The sound for their set was amazing. They played a wide array of songs. Really awesome show.

The sound at McCarren Pool was pretty good, especially for the Breeders. You can actually hear the sisters voices and the bass. Maybe it depended where you were, but it was nothing close to terrible. For Breeders I was on the right quite back but in front of the speaker.

The only other park I've been to for concerts is Prospect park and the sound is phenomenal there. It's not about just drinking during the summer at these shows, you can do that anywhere. These shows are a treat for all ages and fun! There's usually more to do then listen to music & drink, ie slip n slide, dodgeball at mccarren.

The Breeders played an (nearly?) identical set to the one they played at Webster Hall.

To 9:37- Invisible Man wasn't played, nor has it been played on this tour. Great song, though.

Posted by Anonymous | July 13, 2008 11:30 PM

the sound wasn't bad. but who really cares. the vibe at those pool parties is unreal. on a ridiculously beautiful day like today, a couple times i just had to stop and pull an ernie hudson (winston, the african american ghostbuster): i love this toowwnnn!

Posted by Janosz | July 13, 2008 11:35 PM

wow, titus andronicus/ponytail/abe vigoda was great at mercury lounge. like, really really great. it's weird realizing how far each of these bands can (or rather, can't) go, but how talented they were in concert. seriously a lot of fun

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2008 12:12 AM

12:12 -- agreed, I had a blast. I thought vigoda killed it. ponytail too.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2008 12:43 AM

11:30 - right! no Invisible Man. so what was i thinking about? Saints?

either way, the breeders rule. Webster Hall show was best i've seen in the last year or so. and today's show was awesome too.

re: sound at outdoors shows: i've been to many, many outdoors concerts where the sound was phenomenal. and many where it was terrible. and many in-between. it's a different beast to handle than indoors shows, but shouldn't be that much of a problem for a good band with good sound people. (in fact, the real problem is shows at arenas and other very large, tall-ceiling, porous halls, which are usually much worse sound-wise than outdoors concerts. the ONLY band i've ever seen that was able to completely tame that beast and then use it to their advantage was neil young and crazy horse -- which is one reason why i believe they're the best live band in the world...)

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2008 12:45 AM

i agree with 12:45. on the balance, outdoor shows sound better than indoor shows.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2008 1:08 AM

dropkicks at starland was great, i know its a tuff crowd for punk rock on bv but gotta give it up for the irish.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2008 1:18 AM

Sound was fine for Breeders. Gotta agree with @11:35, don't know how you can complain about anything at McCarren, vibe is awesome. Though the Whip should only play when it's dark, when hopefully they have strobe lights and and smoke machines. They are very 1992 in a lot of ways, but cheesy fun.

Crystal Stilts and The Duchess & The Duke played the Charleston... not packed but everyone there was pretty into it. Crystal Stilts are veering further and further away from jamc with every show, which is a good thing.

Hey Anon 1:18, how were the bosstones?

Posted by michaelways | July 14, 2008 7:24 AM

Just to echo other thoughts on here, the Breeders were great, and there was a really good atmosphere in the pool too. You can't help but warm to the Deals.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2008 9:00 AM

i came late and wasnt gonna wait on the line...so some friends and i just listened right outside in the park and even there, i was surprised how good they sounded.

that said, that park is insane. i saw some hipster with long hair and a beard with a sleaveless shirt with a buddha on it and white pants...doing laps in the track.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2008 9:04 AM

did anyone go to the hot water music show at T5?

Posted by un:art:ig | July 14, 2008 11:37 AM

I went to HWM. It started so damn early, I missed half the show, but it was fun.

Posted by Anonymous | July 14, 2008 11:50 AM

was it sold out?

Posted by un:art:ig | July 14, 2008 12:31 PM
