Wow that Yaz show looks like a great time.

Middle-aged bald guy sits at laptop while overweight person who couldn't sing even 20 years ago croons. And they're playing mediocre synth-pop from the early 80s! Wow, fun!

i wonder if yazoo had big black mama as a singer
any of you white kids would've dared to mention she was overweight...
and how PC was it to call her "a person", nice!

Posted by Anonymous | July 17, 2008 11:09 PM

"wail"

No pun intended?

Posted by Anonymous | July 17, 2008 11:15 PM

"Middle-aged bald guy sits at laptop while overweight person who couldn't sing even 20 years ago croons. And they're playing mediocre synth-pop from the early 80s! Wow, fun!"

Anon 5:45 - You are a clueless idiot!

1-There is nothing wrong with being middle-aged - we will all be there someday
2-Allison Moyet has always been a good singer
3-Back in the 80's they were considered very hip!
4-Judging someone by their weight is just dumb - I guess you are a perfect specimen

I'd rather listen to them then BSS or some of the lame-ass crap that passes for good music these days! Oh by the way, I am 26 years old. I know Yaz from my older sisters records.

Posted by Anonymous | July 18, 2008 12:01 AM

good for you 12:01!

5:45 you must be hard of hearing if you really think Alison Moyet can't sing.

Posted by Anonymous | July 18, 2008 12:13 AM

She is an amazing singer. Fact.

Posted by Anonymous | July 18, 2008 12:41 AM

Cecil Taylor and Tony Oxley delivered.

Posted by Anonymous | July 18, 2008 4:30 AM

Agreed Anon @ 4:30AM.

What a fucking show, despite being all the way at the back, I was totally entranced by their otherworldly phrasing and dynamics.

Posted by Anonymous | July 18, 2008 4:49 AM

Dan Deacon sucks.

Balthrop, Alabama with live drawings by Michael Arthur at Joe's Pub on Saturday at 7:00. It's an amazing show--the drawings are like illustrations to the songs adn they match so eprfectly. It's insane.

Andrew Vladeck opens.

Posted by Anonymous | July 18, 2008 11:07 AM

Went to Yaz last night. They were very good and can be very proud of themselves. A tight smart presentation- the graphics were really well done. Ms. Moyet was warm and her voice is rich and smokey and lusty. I wish Vincent Clarke would have been a little more interactive with the crowd, but they really showed the staying power of some of their songs and songwriting.

To those who would comment about age and weight; you did not invent youth, and you will not hold onto it. Moyet has always been chubby, and no one ever cared, because she's attractive anyway and her voice what mattered most.

Thanks.

yaz? yaz-er! (lil wayne)

Posted by Anonymous | July 18, 2008 2:09 PM

Yaz was great. Terminal 5? It turns out, that place really IS as bad as everybody on BV says it is. Like, if I paid for my tix I would be pissed. Do people really pay $50, $60 to see shows there? Amazing.

Posted by Anonymous | July 18, 2008 4:52 PM

like, what was so bad about it? like, thanks.
