TEARING THE VEIL OF MAYA ANNIVERSARY!

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2008 12:39 PM

anyone have any idea how hard itll be to get into the pool today? ie: should i be heading there now( like the breeders) or will i jsut be able to stroll in whenever(like ronnie spector)? would rahter not stand on line in the sun for 2 hours if possible but i will for LIARS if necessary

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2008 12:46 PM

with Santogold at Central Park, i would assume the crowd would be a lot smaller.

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2008 12:51 PM

^thanks, good call. didnt think of that.. i'll take my time i suppose...

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2008 12:53 PM

wait are there actually possibilities of not getting in?

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2008 1:01 PM

i just walked by the pool a few minutes ago.. there is no line so far

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2008 1:03 PM

a good amount of people didnt make it into breeders last week i think. i imagine Liars wont draw quite as many though.

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2008 1:04 PM

liars are huge though

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2008 1:06 PM

Anyone know status of Central Park right now? This show gonna be packed?

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2008 1:11 PM

set time for santogold?

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2008 1:22 PM

I dont think Liars will be a problem. People got denied at Breeders but that was a pretty big band. I remember last year going to TV On The Radio and Band Of Horses and just walking right in. I imagine today will be like that.

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2008 1:43 PM

celebration for free at music hall of wburg after the liars show should be pretty cool. i see rain machine is opening which i think is kyp from tv on the radio. does anyone know if its kyp solo or does it feature any other members of tvotr?

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2008 2:14 PM

1:43 wasn't that an rsvp situation though that scared people away? It was also threatening and/or raining up until the show if i remember correctly.

Still and all I don't think it'll be as packed as Breeders.

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2008 2:19 PM

good choices tonight. too good? um. go have yourself some santogold. 15yr old sweat boxaroo. liars should be good also. but my $ is at the Golem/DeLeon show. that's the rill party. if you don't know. now you know.

What time does Dan Deacon start sucking?

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2008 4:22 PM

Dan Deacon started sucking years ago. I can't recall the exact time, but it was about when he first realized he could make noise.

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2008 4:41 PM

Good point.

What time does Dan Deacon STOP sucking?

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2008 6:27 PM

Dillinger Escape Plan was absolutely killer in their short opening set last night at Irving. Really hoping they'll return soon as a headliner. Wow.

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2008 6:36 PM

Whoa, Tearing The Veil of Maya. Say "Obama" at the door and you can buy a ticket. They are releasing 30 tickets if you say that at the door. Silly, but whatever. Show starts at 8pm

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2008 6:40 PM

"Say "Obama" at the door and you can buy a ticket. "

And say "Is a Marxist" and you get a free drink.

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2008 9:08 PM

Central Park was ridiculously packed today....I had a good time hanging out by the bandshell and just listening.

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2008 9:41 PM

haha, Liars was plenty not-full. You missed out.

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2008 10:38 PM

Just got back from seeing Fuck Buttons, Liars, and then Celebration. What a truly amazing day of free music.

"More like Suck Buttons" - pearl of wisdom from a douchebag

Posted by Anonymous | July 20, 2008 11:29 PM

Celebration was truly special tonight. I'm baffled as to why they're not bigger. Their sound is obviously not geared towards massive popular appeal but I think if people can go apeshit over bands like Beirut and Devotchka, they're totally missing out by not also dipping into Celebration.

Liars were fantastic, so much better than the Breeders last week dont you think? Andrew WK spun disc and was funny. Kim from Matt and Kim was in the audience, and the little kids during Liars were adorable, I hope there will be pics.

"Dan Deacon started sucking years ago. I can't recall the exact time, but it was about when he first realized he could make noise."

Yeah! I hate creativity.

Posted by Philip | July 21, 2008 3:01 AM

Obviously Dan Deacon hates creativity, too.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2008 4:52 AM

Liars were sooo goood

First time catching them live, was amazed how they replicated so many of those weird and fuzz tones live as they were on the record ..

sooo sickkk ..

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2008 7:41 AM

Sorry, NYU Philip... "creativity" does not equal making noise, eating donuts, and having a temper tantrum if the 22-year-olds slobbering all over him don't "dance."

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2008 8:17 AM

i don't know if i'd say liars were better than the breeders, but they were better than i expected for a band that belongs in a dark club. was that manhattan not brooklyn who pushed up front and then left? i think i recognized his girlfriend's famous bag...

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2008 8:21 AM

LIARS ... LIARS ... LIARS ... LIARS ... LIARS
Said band were brilliant when they finally hit the stage. Andrew WK's set was crazy-varied - everything from outdated 90's dance (KLF???) to The Sweet and some other 70's hard rock and metal. Live, Liars reminded me of the Birthday Party, less darkly romantic, more noisy and insane.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2008 9:44 AM

I thought Liars were like what happens when Nick Cave meets Skinny Puppy.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2008 9:49 AM

Celebration were great last night

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2008 10:52 AM

les breastfeeders were fun times.

Posted by Anonymous | July 21, 2008 11:02 AM

I love Celebration. One of the best drummers I've ever seen live. Can't believe that show was free.

Posted by Grateful | July 21, 2008 1:17 PM

"Sorry, NYU Philip... 'creativity' does not equal making noise, eating donuts, and having a temper tantrum if the 22-year-olds slobbering all over him don't 'dance.'"

Hey douche-cunt, I've been studying music for years, and Dan Deacon has two degrees in music. I know composition better than you know your own dick, so don't tell me about creativity. Just because somebody played you one of his tracks and you didn't like it, doesn't mean that it's not music. He has a tremendous body of work.

Go listen to Vampire Weekend.

Posted by Philip | July 21, 2008 5:23 PM

Don't sweat it, Philip. People didn't think Coltrane was making music when he first hit the scene.
