worst festival line-up ever. fuck radiohead.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:15 PM

^^^^^^^^
What did you expect them to do??? If they played in the dark, they'd be at the same time as Radiohead. And THEN you entitled babies would really have something to complain about.

Listen, there's a few things to complain about if you want to compare APW to Coachella, ACL Fest etc. But why do that?

Personally, I like that they have less acts and longer sets-- it means people like Grizzly Bear and Andrew Bird get at least an hour. Also, waaaay fewer conflicts than usual.

But then again, I understand if you are tired from the MGMT show...

Posted by A Roach | August 1, 2008 12:16 PM

Sunday should be fucking amazing!

Posted by Nobody | August 1, 2008 12:17 PM

Yeah Sunday is seriously the best day of the three. Screw Radiohead. Jack Johnson and Trey!!!!! Now if only the Disco Biscuits could be on that bill it would be the show of all time.

Posted by Granola Idiot | August 1, 2008 12:20 PM

Fuck radiohead? Hahahahah!!!
Trust me, they don't need you to like them, buddy.
Hahahahah!!

To all the haters: Shut the F up and turn your existence into something other than the pathetic daily meandering you refer to as "life".

ps - negative ranting on an anonymous message board during work hours is the ultimate passive agressive cry for help.

Posted by charlesbronsonpinchot | August 1, 2008 12:22 PM

No...put Underworld on after Radiohead.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:23 PM

oh, jason, harbinger of doom: how will we ever cope with the "clusterfuck" of an audience leaving a festival after the last performance? please enlighten us...

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:30 PM

Sunday might be the worst day but the "Amadou & Mariam --> Rodrigo y Gabriela --> Cat Power" part is really tight.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:38 PM

thanks to APW organizers for saving me a couple hundred bucks.

Posted by grace6697 | August 1, 2008 12:38 PM

you people are ridiculous. radiohead owns all. pretty easy schedule...

Friday:

Radiohead

Saturday:

Radiohead

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:40 PM

Andrew Bird or Underworld?

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:40 PM

im loving all the fuck radiohead, those posts are just hysterical

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:40 PM

the best band of our generation headlining two summer nights in a row at a gorgeous waterside venue.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:42 PM

grace6697, thanks for the extra elbow room. i'll be sure to stretch out while enjoying radiohead's always stellar set.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:43 PM

Man this lineup is so stupid. The FIRST choice anyone would make is putting Underworld on after Radiohead.

Posted by zik | August 1, 2008 12:44 PM

"you people are ridiculous. radiohead owns all. pretty easy schedule...

Friday:

Radiohead

Saturday:

Radiohead"

Enjoy paying $100 a day to see Radiohead.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:44 PM

so this is basically an elaborate, overpriced radiohead show? awesome!

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:45 PM

Friday:
Miles Benjamin at South Street Seaport --> Iggy Pop at Terminal 5 --> Metric at Highline Ballroom

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:46 PM

12:43- enjoy radiohead. still don't think it's worthwhile to join the clusterfuck for them. driving to philly for one RH show just seems more...worthwhile.

Posted by grace6697 | August 1, 2008 12:47 PM

don't think of it as overpriced. Think of it as still way cheaper than Billy Joel.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:47 PM

ive seen radiohead 12 times and i refuse to go to this festival.

anyone who thinks that festivals are a good idea are seriously kidding themselves.

1)parking, food, beer, merch - all disgustingly overpriced

2)acoustics outdoors can often sound terrible (except rh)

3)festivals lack intimacy and sets are impossibly short .. not to mention migrating from stage to stage missing at least 1/3 of each act, which maybe 4 songs out of 11 or 12 ..

4)APW boasts an incredibly unimpressive lineup. just look at any other festival. saturday and sunday of APW has so few worthy acts ..

Posted by Eric | August 1, 2008 12:51 PM

it's only an elaborate, overpriced* radiohead show for you jaded fucks who can't find anything to like about the rest of the lineup.

* seeing radiohead alone at a crap amphitheater in camden will run you $60

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:51 PM

This show is going to be awesome. All the haters are so sad. Stay home. No one wants to see your loser asses there anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:54 PM

anon 12:42
radiohead the best band of our generation? don't make me laugh, someone hasn't heard morrissey have they?

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:54 PM

Call me crazy but I don't think paying $100 to see Radiohead is anything crazy. A two-hour Radiohead set is worth more than that in my opinion. You losers need to calm down. If you don't like radiohead or this festival in general go be miserable someplace else next weekend.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:57 PM

worst. festival. ever.

it's not even a festival.

come the fuck on.

Posted by grace6697 | August 1, 2008 12:59 PM

Eric:

I'm guessing your 12 Radiohead shows didn't include either day at Liberty State Park in 2001 because otherwise you wouldn't be lamely listing your gripes about festivals in general.

The 2001 shows had a majestic, epic feel (in large part due to the venue) that prompted everyone that was there to rush out and buy tickets for this festival as soon as they went on sale, regardless of the other acts or the price of beer.

Radiohead will play two sick 25 song sets and you will feel like an idiot in the glorious aftermath.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 1:00 PM

there is no one who is immune to the negativity on this blog, not even radiohead. that's ok with me, it doesn't bother me any.
i was thinking radiohead should go on at 8 to give them enough time to run a little late. i wonder if they come out with a hook or cut the power at 11pm sharp.
i was going to try to see grizzly bear, but it's too close to radiohead's set time to give up my spot in front of the stage. saturday is a no-brainer, chromeo, metric, animal collective, radiohead. i'll bring my ipod to keep me busy during kings of leon and their ilk.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 1:02 PM

radiohead has safely surpassed the smiths' output. plus morrissey would just whine and moan about this festival just like the rest of you sad haters.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 1:03 PM

seriously i am in love with all these people shitting on radiohead, i understand if you dont like them but COME ON... THE ASSCLOWN WHO SAID TO PUT THE DISCO BISQUITS ON THIS SETLIST HAHAHA! he really shouild take that act on the road.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 1:04 PM

ha.. reading comments on here are just hysterical.

if you don’t like the fest or the bands, why even read it, let alone comment on it?

Wow, festivals are overpriced!? you're a genius... see you at Beacon's Closet.

Take your white belt and wrap it around your neck pussy

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 1:06 PM

"the best band of our generation"

Champ, I think it's time for you to take a breather and reassess your life.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 1:09 PM

i agree w/ Anon 1:00pm. I was also at the 2001 Liberty State Park RH gig & it was wonderful - what a lovely way to spend a summer Friday. Yeah, the total line-up may not be the best out there, but it's what we got! Perhaps if more people embraced this festival instead of tearing it apart, next year we'll see better line-ups...?

OH - and is anyone hearing the dinosaur banner roar on this site? I love it.

Posted by starslight | August 1, 2008 1:09 PM

the smiths broke up in 1987, they are not of this generation.
morrissey, however, is, and still maintains a more dedicated fan base than any other band of this generation.
this is evident in the fanatics rushing the stage and fighting bouncers in order to touch the man himself.
when thom yorke gets that sort of attention, i might understand the sentiment in your post, but until then, fuck radiohead.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 1:09 PM

12:40 hit the proverbial nail right on the head:

friday - radiohead
saturday - radiohead

and 12:44? radiohead are worth $1000 a ticket, so $100 is really chump change.

aside from radiohead, there are no other bands of consequence or relevance on the APW bill.

sorry fashionistas, hipster doofuses and the like!

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 1:10 PM

they should give us an extra encore on saturday night. agreed, anyone who saw them at liberty state park the first time would not think twice about how awful the rest of the lineup is, it's radiohead at liberty state park!!

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 1:12 PM

anon 1:09

glad to hear that morrisey has legions of obsessed fanboys that worship him and want oh so badly to touch him. i just happen to measure bands by their music, not the attention they get.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 1:13 PM

"aside from radiohead, there are no other bands of consequence or relevance on the APW bill."

God, I love this site :)

Posted by A Roach | August 1, 2008 1:15 PM

why reassess my life? if anything, i should just reconsider the premier bands of my generation? you yourself may want to rethink your arrogant calls for reassessment.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 1:16 PM

^^^ if you are 12 years old, you may have a point.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 1:22 PM

last time i checked, The Kings of Leon, Trey, Ben Harper, and the Roots were noteworthy!

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 1:25 PM

oh man is it 1986 in here?

way to live in the past, post punk tryhards

Posted by grace6697 | August 1, 2008 1:26 PM

not worth 80+ just for new pornographers. i'm still hittig myself for missing them last july.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 1:26 PM

thom yorke is too ugly to have legions of fanboys, so he resorts to making mediocre music. the best part is, you can hate all you want, but radiohead covers a smiths song or 2, not the opposite, thus making the smiths more influential and important in the long haul.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 1:26 PM

oh man, it *is* 1986 in here.

Posted by grace6697 | August 1, 2008 1:27 PM

and i'm sure others will go for other bands but the only band i would REALLY want to see is NP. not diminishing the importance or relevance of any of the other bands.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 1:30 PM

1)parking, food, beer, merch - all disgustingly overpriced -

Public Transportation is all kinds of available, Food Beer Merch are expensive at any show. This wont be more expensive then your average bar in Williamsburg, I guarantee.

DAN DEACON IS THE MOST INFLUENTIAL MUSICIAN EVER

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 1:33 PM

Grace, you continue to surprise me with how much of a stupid dummy you are. This festival is not the best by any means but there are plenty of other great bands on the bill besides Radiohead making it more than worth the admission price. And yes Radiohead alone would be worth 100 dollars.

Posted by A Manhattan Not Brooklyn Asshole | August 1, 2008 1:33 PM

Radiohead alone would be worth 10 dollars

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 1:37 PM

i don't need to go to the rest of it though and philly isn't too far.

thanks, NAMBLA.

1. there are at least 3 other good bands each for friday and saturday making the 30 dollars over for a typical radiohead concert in medium range area worth it seeing how you can also get as fucking close as youre willing to push.

2. way better crowd vibe from a festival than a apm. any day.

3. Morrissey? really? a. the cure was better than the smiths. b. hes a douchebag. c. hes been irrelevant right now compared to radiohead, who is with out a doubt the biggest band in the world, and i would love for somebody to come up with a reason that could refute that, because there is none. whether you like them or not, they are, get over it.

the smiths WERE the best band of their generation. i saw them at the pier in 1986 and consider myself blessed (i'll be telling the grandkids).

but morrissey? he's a matinee idol. THAT'S why the boys and girls want to touch him. real feeling, thinking humans react quite differently to music that qualifies as art, such as the music radiohead creates.

NOTHING morrissey has produced is even in the same universe as the music made by the smiths.

get real.

Posted by grace6697 | August 1, 2008 2:27 PM

$100 for radiohead is worth it..I spend $125 for the symphony, so who cares. But this is really the worst lineup ever. US festive heavy metal sunday 1983 reunion 2008 tour would have been better than this.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 2:30 PM

No Neko makes me sad, but it's not entirely clear whether she'll definitely miss it.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 2:53 PM

zzzzzzzz, the same boring festival we've seen a dozen times this summer.

Also, could somebody please explain the popularity of Rodgrigo y Gabriela? I am serious. Since when do hipsters and indie music snobs (aka people attending all these summer festivals) like flamenco music?

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 3:03 PM

Does anyone from around there or that's been to Liberty know how big and spread out of a park it is? I know it's impossible to know exactly where they'll put the stages, but I'm trying to get an idea of how easily I'll be able to go between stages (i.e. Rock the Bells was easily and quickly walkable)

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 3:06 PM

Saturday's actually a really good show. Animal Collective, The Roots, and Radiohead back-to-back is easily worth $100, especially with the Roots and AC getting a full hour. I'm actually looking forward to this.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 3:07 PM

Since when do hipsters and indie music snobs like flamenco music?

Anyone who has ever seen Rodgrigo y Gabriela does need anyone to explain what the fuss is about.

Posted by Zatzbatz | August 1, 2008 3:14 PM

radiohead is a perfectly decent britpop band, but blur was always better.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 3:21 PM

thought juana molina was supposed to play on friday? did she drop out? was really looking forward to it!

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 3:21 PM

blur: are shite

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 3:28 PM

radiohead and blur are ok, but oasis is better than the beatles.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 3:43 PM

this is ridiculous, i'm sorry. i never comment on this board, but now i'm fired up.

morrissey over radiohead? you stupid hipsters. radiohead is clearly more talented and there is no arguing that. jonny greenwood alone is a more gifted, brilliant musician than morrissey.

simply put, radiohead is the most epic band on earth right now. speaking literally, they are the "best" band in the world: most talented, most innovative. There is not one band that is on their level musically. they are truly above everyone. no one is close.

there is a reason that pit tickets to their shows are scalped for close to $1,000/each and people pay. it's a religious experience.

what's with all the radiohead hate? fuck yeah i'll pay $100 a night to see radiohead, not to mention all the other acts. it's the only NY area shows radiohead are playing so you bet your ass i'll be there.

lighten up, go to a festival, do more drugs.

Burzum > radiohead

Anyone who thinks radiohead is the best/ most talented band simply doesn't know music beyond pop culture.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 4:15 PM

4:15

care to elaborate on that?

Posted by jack | August 1, 2008 4:30 PM

I used to like Radiohead but the last album sound like it was done by a band that wants to sound like Radiohead.

Listen to the first 9 seconds of Weird Fishes/Arpeggi. Radiohead is past it, is irrelevant. Case closed.

A four click count in, an tired "jazzy" beat, and Thom going "uhhh."

Uggh.

They were good. Saw them Liberty State Park 2001. Probably still good performers. But I'd rather go see someone that is pushing the envelope a bit more.

Other people have trouble seeing their heroes fall from grace.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 4:44 PM

yeah they're soooo irrelevant sellng out large scale concerts across the globe, you sir are an idiot.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 5:18 PM

In addition you change radiohead for morrissey Andrhis festival sells a lot less tickets periodthe end, that's all that needs to be said

Posted by gregory | August 1, 2008 7:57 PM

If I could attend, I would arrive Friday at around 3pm (assuming no Pembertonesque disaster goes down), check out the site, then catch Mates of State. Then camp out for a spot for CSS, then off to Underworld and Radiohead. That would be way better than just seeing Liars before Radiohead like on all the other dates.

Saturday? Metric, Sia, the Roots, Radiohead.

Sunday? Not worth it just for Cat Power and Rodrigo y Gabriela. That's the day to explore the city and get some pizza.

So who has the best pizza in NYC?

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 8:02 PM

lombardis spring street for pizza

Posted by gregory | August 1, 2008 8:05 PM

hmm i dont know about you guys, but animal collective and radiohead on a summer night with the new york city skyline as a backdrop sounds pretty good to me

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 8:20 PM

Replace Jack Johnson, Trey, and Ben Harper with Sigur Ros, The Arcade Fire, and Lil Wayne, and this festival would be epic.

The third day is just so disappointing. I've never seen a festival where there's nobody I want to see on an entire day.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 8:54 PM

These shows will be nothing like the ones in 2001. Back then, the crowd size was 17000. These shows are 50000. Big difference. The atmosphere will be nothing like that concerts seven years ago.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 10:20 PM

It was mean of them to have girl talk and andrew bird overlap
same goes for grizzly bear new pornographers

and yeah its expensive, blah blah blah, shitty lineup, fuck radiohead, and everything else you all have been saying, whatever.

its near 100 dollars a day, with 16 acts, so if you look at it that way you're paying less than 10 dollars per band. not bad.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 10:36 PM

What time does Daft Punk go on?

3rd day is the worst music festival day in history - hands down Sunday sucks soooo much ass!

This festival is jusst not very good - Yeah Radiohead, blah, blah, blah, I know they are awesome, but looking at this "festival" as a whole festival - it's a total loss - total crap for choice and lineups that are laughable. UW in the daytime? WTF

ALL POINTS WEAK = FIELD DAY PART 2

oh you can't rationalize the price at 10 per band cause you can only see 3/4 a day because they have less on the lineup - so yeah - this is expensive when compared to Lolla or Coachella

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2008 11:14 AM

great, let me get this straight... 50,000 poeple cramming in to NOT REALLY see Radiohead after a half day of sub par bands playing a crappy festival -

Um, NO THANKS!

This festival blows monkey.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2008 11:17 AM

the line-up isn't terrible, but still, why can't they get a line-up as extensive and amazing as coachella? one would expect there to be amazing music festivals in the NYC metro area, when there are great festivals all over the country (california, austin, washington state, tennessee, etc).

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2008 11:39 AM

yeah, the line-up isn't horrendous, but it is sub-par. i'd expect better.
but if it does well financially, maybe next year it'll be much bigger and better.

Rh in philly is a better use of my time and money.

APW is just so weak - if I choose to spend money on a FESTIVAl, then I will go somewhere else like Lolla or Coachella or Virgin even.

there simply isn't enough choice at APW.

what is radiohead gonna do for two 2-hour sets? that is A LOT of music to play... what are they gonna play four full albums or something

it can't be the same set, can it... lol that would be dumb...

i'd like to add that i am going friday and saturday, and yes, i am going to see them both nights.

Morrissey? you fucking pretentious hipsters

Radiohead is good and all but this is the worst line up ever! DULL! I feel like Radiohead is like a sports team now or something. They play all of these shit festivals and idiots pay $1,000 a ticket. WHY?! I love live music, I like radiohead (not as much as i once did cuz in rainbows just isn't that good) but fuck that.

one of the reasons that they like to play fests, especially in the US, is that don't have to deal with clear channel/live nation/corporate sponsored venues.

that makes things more appealing for them.

OMG RADIOHEAD! OMG so worth $100! OMG worth $100000! It's funny that people are still swinging from radiohead's nutsack like monkeys. Go on, go to APW, get your bananas, monkeys.

Agreed. I was ready to not go tomorrow and sell my ticket, but after Radiohead's set tonight, there's no way I'm missing tomorrow!

In other words, I'm going to get my banana!

No Clusterfuck, it was an awesome day and yes, RADIOHEAD was well worth it!! The other bands were great too! We enjoyed Mates of State, Go Team!, Grizzly Bear and Forro in the Dark were pretty cool too. We unfortunately had to miss Andrew Bird in order to assure a decent sopt on the lawn for Radiohead, but..that's the way it goes.
It rained for 15 minutes or so and they ran out of ponchos for $5, that was stupid!! But, we realized we should have realized to bring our own. They say not to bring in umbrellas, pro cameras, etc...we say plenty of people with all those things. We think the girl with the stuffed animal won that at the little street fair booth (dumb). The food was decent actually, however, YES, PRICEY! You can bring empty bottles and fill them with the water spouts, the main one is warm, yuk! But ice is accessible.
Our bodies are wrecked but it was FUN!!! And RADIOHEAD was EPIC as usual!! They played longer than posted!!

Oh! And Obviously, Radiohead asked Robert Thurman to show up and speak on behalf of Tibet and the remind people of the creepy Chinese Gov. A bunch of people were not only completely clueless but said they didn't want to hear this crap. One dick gave him the finger when he mentioned the Bush Gov and all the money put into the invasion in Iraq. Bob explained that the song Underworld just sang where they say "you've been lied to" was about THAT! DUH!!! OY!!! WHY? Why do these people even come to see these bands? They should go listen to David Allen Coe and stay away from Music that is ALL about Bands such as Radiohead, who care deeply about Human Rights! Also, I wish asshole people wouldn't push their way up through the crowd and smoke cigarettes though!! I HATE YOU PEOPLE WHO DO THAT! Its YOU shmocks who are the real Haters, I detest ASSHOLES LIKE YOU!
Have fun at the Festival!
