Bjork & Antony @ Apollo Theater, NYC - May 2007 (more)

Tickets go on sale Friday for an October 16th Antony & The Johnsons show at the legendary Apollo Theater in NYC. Last time I saw Antony at the Apollo, he was singing "The Dull Flame of Desire" with Bjork. In related news...
Björk releases the new single 'The Dull Flame of Desire' on September 29th 2008 through One Little Indian Records.More info on that Bjork single, and all Antony tour dates, below...
Flooded with melancholic passion and restrained hope, 'The Dull Flame of Desire' sees Björk accompanied on vocals by Antony Hegarty from Antony & The Johnsons. Antony joined Björk onstage at her recent Hammersmith live shows and sang 'Dull Flame' to showstopping effect. 'The duet seemed unsurpassable - the pair's distinctive vocals brought to life against brass, transfixing the crowd' The Independent April 15th...

'The Dull Flame of Desire' features lyrics taken from a translation of a poem by Fyodor Tyutchev as it appears in the film 'Stalker' by Andrei Tarkovsky. Taken from her most recent studio album 'Volta', 'Dull Flame' is written and produced by Björk and follows recent singles 'Earth Intruders', 'Declare Independence', 'Innocence' and 'Wanderlust'.Bjork - 2008 Tour Dates
Björk has also commissioned brand new mixes of 'Dull Flame' by Modeselektor and Mark Stent as well as a Sinden mix of 'Innocence'. Mixes come on Limited Edition 12" and CD, Cat No 881TP7CD/881TP12.
Meanwhile the video concept for 'Dull Flame' is as unique as we come to expect from Björk. Out of hundreds entrants for the "Innocence" music video competition (which ran on www.bjork.com offering new directors the chance to work with Björk), she chose 3 new directors to collaborate on the "Dull Flame" video.Björk and Antony performed against green screen in New York then each director was sent the raw footage to edit and create their piece. Christoph Jantos (Berlin) Masahiro Mogari (Tokyo) and Marçal Cuberta Junca (Girona) are the chosen directors. Each director was given their own section of the film, to develop how they wished - on completion the 3 films were edited together in London to make the final music video.
'Volta' is Björk's sixth studio album and follows the release of 'Medúlla' in 2004.
Featuring ten new and original tracks, 'Volta' is written and produced by Björk, with two tracks co-produced with Timbaland and one with Mark Bell.
2007 and 2008 has seen Björk take her thrilling Volta Tour across the world in series of festival headline performances and her own shows to considerable acclaim, and continues through Europe this summer.Preorder White Labels Click Here

do you think he'll play multiple nyc dates? i cant make the 16th show.
Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 10:33 AM
hold on, i'll ask him really quick.

I hope so, and for cheaper, cause even though I love his music and haven't seen him live, I am not gonna pay more than $50 to see him.

The only bands to charge under $50 these days are emo acts. Unless Antony plays a free show sometime, based on the NYC venues he's played in years' past (Carnegie Hall, Town Hall, BAM, the Apollo), my guess is that you're probably not going to see him for less than $50. So just pony up the dough! He's worth it!

Wow, finally a show worth my money! thanks fro the ehads up BV

he played warsaw just 2 years ago for, like, $30 or something.
Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 12:18 PM
That's true. And he played Bowery & Joe's Pub a year prior to that, too. But I mean, in the past couple years, he's risen to Carnegie/BAM status. Seeing him (play a full set... Warsaw was kind of abbreviated) for under $50 is becoming less & less likely. $58 isn't bad though. Just go to the box office to avoid the service charges!

which box office would that be? i want to avoid TM charges too

Shockingly, the Apollo Theater box office is located at the Apollo Theater.

I wonder if the sound at Apollo is good. Never been there myself... last time I saw him he played Carnegie and it was impeccable.

I love Antony (and Bjork) but I'm not crazy about his duets. Dull Flame is okay (but repetitive and slightly silly).

will he be playing multiple dates at apollo?
Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 3:48 PM
"will he be playing multiple dates at apollo?"
why don't you just buy tickets anyway? if you can't resell them as you intend to do go to the show and maybe you will learn to appreciate music
Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 3:54 PM
It will sell out before you can get through the box office.
Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 3:57 PM
what's with all the people (or the person) asking if antony will be playing multiple dates at the apollo? how the fuck should we know?!

Antony and the Johnsons is also performing at Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles on Tues. Oct. 14 with with orchestra.

The sound at Apollo seemed good to me.
Totally worth it to see Antony in the states this year. And seriously, pony up or shut the F up. If you want to see his show, buy a ticket. Otherwise sit at home and whine when tix are no longer available. You probably whine about a $2 PBR.
Buy a ticket if you're a fan. He's worth it, especially where it is and at this price.

Anyone with a couple of extra tickets willing to sell them for face value?
Posted by Eduardo | October 13, 2008 12:34 PM
Does anyone know what time the gig actually starts? Is there an opening act? Tried to call the Apollo box office but was on hold forever...
Posted by Anonymous | October 16, 2008 3:25 PM
I was just told 8. Not sure about an opener, but there will be an orchestra.
