Two years too late.

now we just need care bears on fire, tiny masters of today, and [this i will get shit for] fiasco gone and we won't have to deal with rich little kids who only get record deals and attention because of their parents' connections.

Wait, so why cancel their remaining US dates and not the UK ones? This makes little sense to me.
I mean, if you were going to still have to play the UK dates (for whatever reason) why not just stuck it up and play the remaining few you have in the states? I mean, at least for the people here that would like to come out and see you one last time (though I have a feeling it's not many of the commenters here).

i thought they were really fun. a little cheese, perhaps, but always a good time. i especially enjoyed when ms. pearl slapped the shit outta that dude who tried to kiss her at mercury lounge.

She got a lot less hot after the first record anyway. It was all downhill after they lost that awesome drummer.
Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 5:45 PM
Ha. They were cooler (and more talented) than you (and me).

Good. Another worthless flavor of the day, washed down the drain with the rest of the garbage.

That's too bad, Get Awkward was a really good album.
Turbo Fruits are a better band anyway.

that's what happens when you suck and are 18
Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 11:38 PM
Man, you guys are negative people. Be Your Own Pet write catchy pop songs, what's wrong with that?

I wasnt being ironic I liked them a lot, saw them three times and each time they delivered the good. Coachella 2006 they were prob my second favorite on the weekend, behind YYY's set, then the show at Southpaw, and last year at BAM.
I kind of dont get it why this happened. Maybe some kind of personal situation / fight. If you remember that Southpaw show in 2006, Jamina was really pissed over something that night.

jemina pearl is a huge bitch. she's the reason the band is breaking up. the other members all hate her because shes a cokehead who's too busy fucking alex turner (while she has a boyfriend) to concentrate on their music.
pretty great band though. sad to see them go
Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2008 8:15 AM
Fine, I would rather see Love as Laughter.
Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2008 9:57 AM
also if you guys remember they delivered a pretty much legendary set at Lolla in 2006, Jamina threw up at one point from heat and dehydration, but kept on singing. If I remember right Pareles over at NY Times called it best sets of the weekend.

"Jamina threw up at one point from heat and dehydration, but kept on singing. "
that = great set for me.
more barfing!

here it is, Jon Pareles: "Be Your Own Pet is the three-piece Nashville band, barely out of high school, that has rediscovered the joys of hardcore's drive and yelp, coupled with the alternating wail and pout of its lead singer, Jemina Pearl. She was always shaking something — head, shoulders, knees, hips — as she belted out her songs, and the early morning set and noonday sun caught up with her. In true punk fashion, she threw up, then rinsed her mouth and jumped around through two more songs in what was a long set for this band: a full half-hour."

that first album was pretty tight. the latest one...not so good.
Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2008 1:03 PM
jemina's gonna be better as a solo act anyway. especially over at my place. i'll let her use my body as a PA system.

Good Riddance

saw these dudes other band Turbo Fruits last night in Chi town. They were pretty good. They played with a band called Radical Sons that were fun also. I only caught part of their set though.

Saw them open up for Arctic Monkeys at Hammerstein, they were shit then and they're shit now.
Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2008 9:11 PM
arctic monkeys? give me a fucking break. byop was way better than arctic monkeys.
Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2008 1:31 AM
oh my god she threw up and kept singing, what a feat.
let's see her do it without daddy's trust fund and i'll be fucking impressed.

BYOP and Mary Timony rocked when they opened up for Q & not U!

everybody who is dissing is just the whiny bitch going from blog to blog just to bitch, BITCH, BITCH. if you dont like the music then dont fucking listen to it you moron. show some fuckin respect. BYOP is a cool band, and though there last album was not as solid as the first (and by the way this was not the drummers fault as mentioned previously. Jon is a SICK drummer and if you dont believe me check out the Turbo Fruits), they are fucking playing music and having a good time with it. Yeah maybe their parents helped them out a little, but shitty bad-sounding bands don't simply have the ability to play big shows and these guys do. so obviously you idiots who are complaining about their parents paying the bands' way through their career probably had crack-head parents yourselves and now are pissed that you work in a small cubicle and use these blogs as your escape to some type of weird fantasy/grudge that you are still holding even though you are 35.
