Most people are going to this show to see MGMT. Beck's just not that popular anymore and he hasn't put out a great album in ages.

does anyone know why the Charlatans show for bowery in october was just cancelled?
Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2008 5:56 PM
the bar for stupidest comment ever on BV is really high, but i think 5:54 might take it.

HA HA HA HA HA you are stupid.

Beck haters can say whatever they want but I'm tired of this MGMT > Beck business. Repost from the other Beck thread:
MGMT:
2008 - Oracular Spectacular
Beck (major releases only):
1994 - Mellow Gold
1996 - Odeley
1998 - Mutations
1999 - Midnight Vultures
2002 - Sea Change
2005 - Guero
2006 - The Information
2008 - Modern Guilt
Sure a few of the albums aren't top notch but there are some really solid songs and his live act is amazing. This guy is a true performer and musically talented man. Watch MGMT open and try to say they have already outclassed a seasoned veteran like Beck.

Beck's new album is pretty good. probably b/c it's so short. last one was mediocre.
he is a bit overly-prolific with the albums, kind of like sonic youth, the fall, and modest mouse. would be a good thing if most of the songs were good, but these bands tend to put out a whole lotta nothing. i'd rather see few albums/fewer songs with higher quality and more variety.

How the fuck was it a PREsale if ALL the tickets were made available?
Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2008 6:16 PM
Clearly Beck is the superior act here, I don't think there's a real argument against that, but the size of the crowd at MGMT's stage at Lollapalooza was ridiculous. Bigger than Mark Ronson's, bigger than Cat Power's, bigger than Chromeo's. Granted there's a lot of factors that go into how many people show up to see each act at a festival, but when MGMT closed with their last few songs (the "hits" from their record) people were going nuts. Just sayin', it's not all hype.

I tried getting tickets for the Beck presale as soon as it started, and they were sold out immediately. Going to try again with this one.
Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2008 6:37 PM
MGMT had a huge set to start Lolla. It thinned out substantially when people realized the hype was unwarranted. They were AWFUL. Just terrible.
Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2008 6:50 PM
I'm not even a big fan of Beck, but buying a ticket just to MGMT is surely a waste of money.

Hey Jew Wannabe aka Mr. Stupid Anon 11:22pm. If you were actually a Jew or an observant one you would know that Yom Kippur this year begins at sunset on Wed October 8th. It then goes on till sunset on Thursday October 9th. Beck will not hit the stage till probably 9 or 10 even. Sunset being at 6 or 7 would mean that Yom Kippur would officially be over by the time the concert starts.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 12:57 AM
12:57 maybe you are stupid. After fasting a whole day, it might not be so easy to run to a concert the minute the holiday ends. Additionally, maybe 11:22 will be spending holidays in a place where it will not be so easy to get to the concert in time anyway.

i ran to ryan adams last year the second the sun set.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 3:04 AM
1:20a Nice try but No.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 3:28 AM
hang 'em up Beck.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 7:53 AM
Yeah good advice. You can still sell out major markets with your tours and are putting out solid albums every two years. The fans are still there and willing to come see you.
Hang it up, good advice.

i saw beck last halloween (midnight show) @ the black cat in dc. my friends and i stumbled upon the news of his show when we arrived to the venue with intentions of solely seeing "archie bronson outfit." what a spectacular surprise to find out that beck had intended to play one of his "secret" unannouced shows that evening. he and his friends/band played in the backstage room, which held maybe 150 people... bar none, one of the best performances i have ever seen. beck was super cool to play such an intimate venue- huge treat for fans of all ages.
beck is as influential/innovative to music as radiohead, to say that he is putting out whack music is just plain dumb. ya dumb-dumbs.
*also, archie bronson outfit was great.

This place is right around the corner from my apartment. Hipsters, please don't move here. You wouldn't like it.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 8:40 AM
hipsters are already moving into washington heights. or they were slowly invading inwood when i used to live up there.

"beck is as influential/innovative to music as radiohead, to say that he is putting out whack music is just plain dumb. ya dumb-dumbs."
I'm sorry I don't think I've seen anyone say that Beck is a big influence in any way, maybe his burning dance moves are. How about that country album? Now that's a concept. I'm glad you feel passionate about this guy, but it's pretty low technique stuff, brought to life more by decent musicians in the band. Clean out your locker Beck.

831 that sounds sick about black cat backstage secret beck show. i'm from dc and never heard about that. black cat > every rock venue in new york.

he is so solid live
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 12:36 PM
does anyone know what the deal is with tomorrow's presale for the second night they just added? Is the code the same?
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 12:39 PM
Anybody attend Beck's MSG Theater shows on the Guero tour a few years ago? I was there - he seemed bored the entire time. Puppets were cool but that thrill wore off after a song or two.
If so, have you seen him since? I'm scratching my head with all these "he's solid live" type comments.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 1:29 PM
this combo sucks. i'd like to see beck without getting humped by 9 thousand drunk NYU freshman girls.
Posted by sarah | August 5, 2008 1:32 PM
I saw Beck at the MSG Theater for the Guero tour. I have no idea what you are talking about Anon 1:29 . . . Beck is always awesome live. He is a very talented musician. To all the haters, if you don't like Beck then don't read posts with "Beck" in them.
Posted by E | August 5, 2008 2:39 PM
who the fuck is MGMT?!
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 4:41 PM
Okay . . . anon 1:39 here again. To clarify for you, E, I like Beck's music and would be interested in attending the show if he brought any, you know, energy to the stage. As in, he moved or something. So if I caught him on a bad night, I'd be interested in giving him another chance. Hence my asking the question. On a music-related blog.
But don't worry you sensitive little guy, I agree that Beck is awesome and talented - there there, dry your eyes, it's all going to be okay.

What is the beck presale pass??
Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 9:48 AM
odelay
Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 9:50 AM
it appears to be an iTunes presale, but I can't find any info about it on iTunes.
Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 9:54 AM
bowery presents says it's "modern" but that isn't working...
http://www.bowerypresents.com/calendar/show/1936/
Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 9:57 AM
For the iTunes password, it is a unique password that can buy up to 4 tickets (i.e., not a general one like "modern"). You had to have pre-ordered "Modern Guilt" in order to have gotten one. I think they are having the pre-sale to make up for the fact that they didn't have an iTunes pre-sale for the first show.
The "modern" password will work at 11am when the regular pre-sale starts.
Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 10:21 AM
K-list presale password is BECK.
Posted by anonymous | August 6, 2008 10:36 AM
"modern" isn't working for the regular internet presale.
Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 10:46 AM
I can't seem to get any of the passwords to work...
Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 10:47 AM
password is orphans, but it may be sold out again
Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 10:50 AM
Thanks for the password, but it looks like you are right. Pre-sale is sold out
Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 10:51 AM
I don't see any show dates listed after this one, so hopefully they'll add another.
Or maybe they'll actually be some seats available for the public sale this time.
Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 10:55 AM
Single tickets left!
Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 10:55 AM
I truly love how people talk so much shit on this blog like they know. In this case though I have to say a big THANK YOU to the 2 idiots who posted wrong passwords earlier plus Bowery Presents fuckos who did the same thing. I knew it was "orphans" all the time and while the rest of you were fumbling with the wrong passwords I got 2 lovely 3rd row center tickets.
And the presale is not sold out dummies and you can get more than single tickets. They keep rolling em out although everything now is way back in the orchestra and upper which suck at UP.
So in conclusion...PFFFTTT....and that's a big ol fart coming your way.

Well, I just got Orchestra tickets too, so hopefully my spit ball accuracy is still good and I can aim at the back of 11:01's head all night, making him extra smug about his cool seats and passwords abilities.

11:01 - you sure showed those numskulls, you seem like fun guy
