Too successful for my taste. They were way better pre-Letterman.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 12:46 PM

why is the lead singer sitting down? weird. does he do that at shows too? did he throw his back out?

yes, Jesus, get out of the chair. He's a shy guy to be fair to him, but come on. I get the sense sometimes that he'd rather sit in his bedroom and sing, which is cool, but not if you want to make a living in music. But congrats to the boys.

...he always sits...and I can't wait to see them again at Webster...

Beards!

What a lot of kneejerking naysayers... they were better when nobody heard of them, what, two months ago? In what way exactly?

Posted by schlep | August 5, 2008 1:28 PM

More dynamic and original in their song writing than the (modern) bands they get compared to.

I imagine i'd be pretty nervous too if i were on national TV, quit whining about him not standing up.

These guys deserve good long careers doing what they do. They have integrity, which is something I cannot say even for a majority of 'real' bands.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 1:28 PM

but the thing is...why wouldn't they play white winter hymnal or that other song i love. your protector? huh huh?

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 1:38 PM

decent

Schlep either didn't get the memo or just outsarcasticated all you sarcastic jerks.

this might be the best comment i've ever seen on brooklynvegan.

He sits down because he plays acoustic guitar and not everyone wants to drill a hole in the body of a vintage instrument to insert a strap button. You can always run the strap to the headstock but that is pretty awkward. It also allows for easier finger-picking etc. Guess he cares that they sound good and that his guitar remains as is rather than look like a rocker.

That's kinda disrepectful, you should always stand up to shake someone's had tsk tsk tsk.

This is by far my favorite song on the album. Very well done.

But I want another Crystal Skulls album.

top notch performance on Letterman...loved it!

I agree

Agreed. And agreed. And an NYC CS show would be nice too.

the crystal skulls do not exist any more as a band. christian wargo may put out another record under the moniker "crystal skulls", but it won't be the same band.

"but the thing is...why wouldn't they play white winter hymnal or that other song i love. your protector? huh huh?"

they can't play 'your protector' without that flute player though, right?

great job on letterman, boys! they are super in-tune with their vocal parts for a live performance! not many bands can do that this well these days.

"Shy" is about the last word I'd use to describe their lead singer.

Posted by Anonymous | August 10, 2008 1:49 AM

Fantastic band, great performance. Nice to see a decent band getting recognition these days, as oppose to the usual crap that's everywhere.

On another note: Skyler is adorable.

.. finest in Philly. Stage area is like Mercury Lounge in size (slightly bigger), but with a bar and balcony. Great food and beers too. The area isn't sketchy either. I've been there tons of times and never felt like I was gonna get shot. Street parking is plentiful and it's right off an "el" stop (Girard and Frankford).
