Well, we here at the station are still riding on the high of WFMU's broadcast from Damrosch Park last night, really one spectacular show all around. Hope you all caught it either in person or on the air/netwaves. Perfect weather, fantastic, grooving crowd of five or six thousand, and a stellar night with the Ex, Getatchew, Mahmoud & company. Trent and I each put some sets up on Flickr more to follow on FMU's page later I am sure. It's been a summer to remember in terms of live music in NYC, that's for sure. [WFMU]

What an absolutely brilliant show! The traditional Ethiopian dancing, throat calls, and heavy vibrato sax blended so perfectly with the grating guitars and tribal drumming of the Ex.
Also ran into Thurson Moore and Kim Gordon there! A great night all-around!

without a doubt, contender for show of the year. every set was nothing less than brilliant.

Ditto. I went for Mahmoud Ahmed, who was great, but stayed for The Ex who were outstanding. I had a good feeling about this concert, but it exceeded my expectations. The set by The Ex was one of the smoothest and most successful collabos I've been privy to. Not to mention it rocked my ass.

The Ex was brilliant w/ the horn section & Gétatchèw. It was Ethiopian jazz meets Sonic Youth-style guitar freakouts. One of my top 10 of the summer.

sat next to John Zorn and entourage. bastard didn't stop talking through on his cell through Extra Golden, but was very attentive afterwards.

I also saw Patti Smith and Denardo Coleman (Ornette's son and drummer), Tony Conrad, Jim Thirwell and Ernie Brooks there too. What an amazing night.

Great show all around. Glad the cops finally eased off letting people stand up front by the end.
That dancer was one smooth operator!

that wasnt cops, that was lincoln center private security, who are the best nicest bunch.
if it was cops they would have ruined the show/fun. or 99 percent of security people, like the sns thugs who ran the Blonde Redhead, or those criminals called Strike Force security who did APW.

Such a fun show, such a good bill. And oh goodness, so many Ethiopian princesses there. Their kiss is on my list.

I think Rick Froberg of Drive Like Jehu/Hot Snakes/Obits was also there.
