I can understand why people go to this show for the party atmosphere....but this is honestly some of the worst music i've ever heard...its just a guy on stage mixing pop and rap songs...sounds mizzz live also....comments, thoughts?

my thoughts: how is girl talk considered different from a DJ? he selects, plays, and manipulates pre-recorded music...is that not a DJ?

Honestly? This is not the place to analyze music mixes. It's a place to have a great time and dance around with friends.
Leave the critiquing at the door and grab a drink.

um, that crowd wasn't there *FOR* girltalk... they just happened to be there during his set as they waited for the headliners.

Every Girl Talk show I have ever gone to has been sold out. And just because Radiohead was coming on next does not mean I was not in that crowd *FOR* Girltalk, because I certainly was.

I downloaded the Girl Talk album after all the hoopla on this site and I must say it's quite awesome in a mindless and fun way. There's no reason why it wouldn't be fun to celebrate the banal yet powerful phenom known as the mash-up in public, which would explain these sold out shows. Having said that, it definitely is not a band (nor do I think he'd say he's a band). Then again, neither is Daft Punk and look at the party they can throw.
But the newest GT album is awesome for cardio -- thumbs up.

@ 1:42 - Actually no, the crowd pictured above at Lollapalooza was there for Girl Talk, he was the last to play that stage.

Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2008 2:36 PM
this dude sucks and will have a real tough time getting the rights to release his cd.

something like a phenomenon

when do they announce late night show with a better dj?
Posted by Anonymous | August 19, 2008 5:39 PM
Um, he has released his CDs, and I believe he openly challenges the labels to come after him. They would have to prove in court that his few second samples damage their record sales (which they don't, and if anything they boost them).
If the labels lose they set a huge precedent, and open the floodgates for mash up artists ans samplers.
That is a risk the labels are not willing to take.

Girl Talk is directly infringing and profiting on other artist's copyrighted music. People are drawn to his music because of the ORIGINAL music that he has sampled. It seems kind of exploitive. He can sample 300 artists, but whole is never greater the sum of it's parts. Disappointing considering the amazing work that The Avalanches and early DJ Shadow have done with sampling.

anybody willing to sell one ticket for Nov. 15???
email on the name.

DJ Shadow does not make dance music. The Avalanches are not playing Terminal Five in November. People need to calm down and have some fun sometimes.

all of you who are hating on Girl Talk are complete idiots. he is the most talented mash up DJ in history. stop hating and open your ears because they clearly arent now.

Girl talk is useless. All of you are in a collective stupor over this non-artist fool.
