'Hello Brooklyn' = The Hook renovated -- reopening tonight

Hello Brooklyn? No comment on the name. More details on the new Red Hook Brooklyn venue below...

Hola! Bonjour! Konichiwa! But most importantly... HELLO BROOKLYN! As Red Hook waves farewell to The Hook, it says hello to the area's newest performance space and nightclub, HELLO BROOKLYN. Labor Day weekend [08.29 and 08.31] marks the opening and coming out party for the newly renovated space. Friday features all out dance party and Sunday features an all-ages backyard BBQ. [Flyers below] For more information, visit www.hellobrooklynnyc.com.Located at 18 Commerce Street between Richards and Columbia St., HELLO BROOKLYN is nestled in Red Hook's eclectic mix of living artist residences, the new IKEA, and industrial businesses - a perfect location for raucous live performances, unique corporate events, video/photo shoots, and private engagements.
Renovations to the 6200 sq. ft. space include a plush new upstairs and downstairs interior, an upgraded, state-of-the-art sound and lighting system, and a refurbished outdoor space with a newly added bar. HELLO BROOKLYN boasts 3500 sq. ft. of open space on the main floor, including a beautiful semi-circular wood and brick bar, which at capacity houses 400 guests. The 75 X 23 ft. raised stage is perfect for large bands and a variety of stage performances. At the rear of the main floor, 250 sq. ft. of cushioned and carpeted risers provide casual seating with a clear view of the stage. For more information on venue specifications, visit www.hellobrooklynnyc.com.
HELLO BROOKLYN's opening marks the realization of a lifelong dream for owner and manager Craig "Knoki" Fyffe, former Sugar Factory alum, and business partner, Cesar CeDillo. "It's been a good four-year search for the right space in the right community," said Fyffe. "I want HELLO BROOKLYN to be known as a performance space with a lot of cultural and community events in Red Hook - we're not just another nightclub, we're an all-inclusive event space."
In addition to new management, HELLO BROOKLYN has partnered with Rare Form Promotions to serve as the booking agency for the space. Rare Form Promotions is known for hosting a variety of nightlife events in Brooklyn and Manhattan, including over five years of the Freedom Party, the JDilla tribute party Donuts Are Forever 1 & 2, Brasilintime with Red Bull/Mochilla, and ?uestlove at Quo.

Hello Brooklyn = Goodbye Success

Hello Brooklyn=fail
No one is going to come from b-burg or Manhattan to a club in red hook.

Who the hell comes up with this @#$%!

ESG played at the Hook on 12/20/03, not 2 years ago. TV on the Radio opened for them. Sound sucked.
Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2008 1:10 PM
Yes they did, they played there on 9/15/06 with Man In Gray, Northern State, and DJ Tim Sweeney (Beats in Space/DFA Records)
Posted by Bryan | August 29, 2008 1:20 PM
Real World will definitely be there. They shut down part of Greenpoint the other day for those fuckers and I ran into them again at Angels and Kings, but I guess that's my own fault for going to that awful place.

"""HELLO BROOKLYN is nestled in Red Hook's eclectic mix of living artist residences, the new IKEA, and industrial businesses"""
What, no love for the Red Hook Housing Projects? Does being 'nestled' next to the projects not make it "a perfect location for raucous live performances, unique corporate events, video/photo shoots, and private engagements"?
Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2008 1:44 PM
Being nestled next to the projects is always good for rock clubs. Whose gonna give a shit if one of the residents complains about the noise or the coked up yuppies puking, pissing and howling all through their neighborhood until 4 AM?
Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2008 2:52 PM
Will they have the shuttle bus?
One of the reason for the failure of the Hook was that they canceled the shuttle. Sorry, but the location is too far out after spending a long time on the subway (not everyone lives on the F/G line), especially during the winter.
Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2008 2:59 PM
i can't believe they're trying to promote their proximity to Ikea

"No one is going to come from b-burg or Manhattan to a club in red hook."
They will if there is big name entertainment. People will travel almost anywhere if there is a big enough and cool enough band playing. From the looks of this though, it doesn't seem that they are going to be booking major acts.

Why Ya'll gotta be so critical of everything all the time?
It's easier to criticize than create, and I bet you would benefit from channeling your negativity into some constructive creative project.

"[Who's] gonna give a shit if one of the residents complains about the noise or the coked up yuppies puking, pissing and howling all through their neighborhood until 4 AM?"
Don't worry, the heavily armed residents of the projects will take matters into their own hands.

The Hook actually had some solid sound. As someone who lives in CG, it's not too hard to get to, but yeah, it's pretty much in the middle of nowhere. F/G to Smith+9th and then take the bus or walk 8-10 blocks through Red Hook?
Call it whatever name you want, but unless you're getting every great band in the world to play that place, no one's going all the way out there.

A white woman in her twenties was found dead in the Red Hook projects on Columbia Street this week.
Posted by dead hook | August 29, 2008 7:10 PM
Not the PJs. My bad. The 20-something corpse was found at 352 Columbia Street.
After last call, Heroin is still the King of Red Hook. Crack is the Queen.

why does it make a difference that it was a white woman? A Black or Puerto Rican woman would be ok?
Posted by Moe | September 1, 2008 12:00 AM
I believe it makes a difference that she was white because it is out of the ordinary. (Such as a one legged hooker.)
The population of 20 year old white women living in the Red Hook Houses is minuscule. Out of 9000 some odd residents I don't think there are more than a handful of Eastern Europeans living in the Red Hook projects that would match this demographic.
To me a dead white 20 year old woman in the Red Hook PJs screams heroin. True grit.

"one legged hooker"
I'd hit it.

Hump-a-stump.

'It's not a black thing. It's not a whit thing. It's a dead thing' -- Hello Brooklyn!
Posted by greg | September 2, 2008 11:28 PM
The most recent reporting of the death puts the corpse in 452 Columbia Street. That's the main crossroad of the Red Hook PJs.
A little test for the bearded, pasty faced,
sundress wearing, college educated, White minorities in "the Back".
What is the meaning of Flagpole, 32, 39 and the Panelas?
What do you really know about your neighborhood?
