Iggy Pop & Mike Watt @ United Palace (more)
Iggy Pop and Mike watt

Montreal police have found the truck stolen Monday from American punk icon Iggy Pop and his band the Stooges, but tens of thousands of dollars worth of equipment is still missing.

The abandoned truck was found late Tuesday afternoon at the corner of Saint-Marc Street and René Lévesque Boulevard, said police spokeswoman Anie Lemieux.

"All the equipment was missing -- or almost," Lemieux said. "I think there were a few mike stands that stayed in the truck. Investigators are going to look for any elements that can help them try to find possible suspects.

"Are there any fingerprints in the car? Were any elements left on the scene that might help them find possible leads in this case?" Lemieux said investigators are also looking for witnesses....

...Almost immediately after the theft, the band vowed to continue with the North American leg of its tour, including Wednesday's gig in Toronto. CBC-TV accompanied Watt to a Toronto guitar store on Tuesday as he borrowed some replacement instruments.[CBCNews]

The Montreal gig was part of Osheaga. NYC is Friday. They are also playing the Baltimore Virgin Festival this weekend.

Well at least Iggy still has his attached to body leather jacket.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 1:43 PM

Did they move the NYC show? The show was supposed to be on Friday 8/8/08.

I don't know what's scarier, Iggy's chest or Madonna's arms.

"Canada has some douchey music fans"

That is the stupidest thing I've read in a long time.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 2:23 PM

Ya just know that all the douchebags making jokes about how Iggy looks are probably the most out of shape fat motherfucking losers you have ever seen. Iggy could probably kick their asses today with one hand tied behind his back.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 2:27 PM

it looks like an equipment-laden U-Haul ran over Iggy's chest.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 2:42 PM

hiiiiohhhh

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 2:52 PM

can they fingerprint teh fucker, find the theives- kill them, and fly the equipment to NYC in a day and a half?

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 2:54 PM

I wanna see some dumb ass try and sell watt's bass on e-bay and get busted! That would be the best ending to this story! and the funniest!

Something's missing from this story..... what happened to the guard that was guarding the stuff at 6:30?

"The truck was parked outside the Embassy Suites hotel; I personally saw the truck parked at 6:30 in the morning, where it was being guarded. By 8:30, it was gone."

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 3:48 PM

anon 2:27- he probably could but that doesn't take away from the fact that his chest is scary as all hell.

Because this stuff is so high profile, even if these assholes do actually find a buyer, I'm sure it will be at 1/10 of what the stuff is worth. They can't sell it on ebay, or even a reputable music store, meaning this stuff will at best end up in a pawn shop (if not a heroin dealer's bedroom). Imagine walking into a shitty pawn shop in Montreal and seeing Mike Watt's bass selling for $200.

Sad days.

I think we should wage war with Canada over this...

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 4:18 PM

that'd be an afternoon's work. The canadian army don't even carry guns.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 4:29 PM

Yeah, but the Dubya administration expected post-invasion Iraq to be no big deal, and look what happened.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 4:50 PM

this is almost as sad as sonic youth's gear disappearing a few years ago. they haven't been the same since.

Unless it is moved out of the country. I'll bet they can sell it for tons somewhere like Japan. Also, it might go into someone's private collection, and a lot of money would change hands on the black market for a real big Stooges Fan.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 4:58 PM

The Stooges should be playing McCarren Pool instead of Terminal Five.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 4:59 PM

At least they left the van intact. My buddy drove up to Canada for a show back in July, not only did some dudes break in & steal his CDs, but they also torched his van. True story.

this is what happens when you have socialized medicine.

Iggy looks fucking great. Totally ripped at 60. I'd love to see what you lame douches are going to look like.

Toronto setlist:
"Loose"
"Down On The Street"
"1969"
"I Wanna Be Your Dog"
"TV Eye"
"Real Cool Time"
"No Fun"
"1970"
"Fun House/LA Blues" (or at least a jam that was LA Blues-esque)
"Skull Ring"
"Search And Destroy"
"My Idea Of Fun"
"I Got A Right"
Encore:
"Trollin'"
"Little Electric Chair"
"Little Doll"
"I'm Fried"

I usually hate T5, but last night was incredible. I've seen the Stooges (and Iggy solo) before, but that might have been my all-time favorite Iggy performance. Pretty similar setlist to the Toronto show, plenty of Funhouse, Search and Destroy, I Got a Right...and of course Iggy stage diving and going into the crowd whenever he feels like it (and the audience storming the stage, which never gets old). Just perfect.
And the sound was great (really!).

That's curious, those thieves showed more interest on the band's equipment than the car itself! I think they were smart, it would have been very difficult for them to resell the car without getting caught, that's why they preferred to dump it...

Yes, Iggy Pop is uglier than Pete Rose
