I thought Canadians were a peaceful, polite, law-abiding people, even the Quebecois.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 12:41 AM
Rollins also talked about how much he hated Canada in a (hilarious) Nardwuar interview. I think he said it was because his stuff got stolen too.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 12:54 AM
the pain killers will be the first thing to sell.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 1:45 AM
good thing iggy's leather jacket is always attached to his body.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 2:10 AM
holy shit that's some big time robbery
Posted by anonymous | August 5, 2008 3:17 AM
"good thing iggy's leather jacket is always attached to his body."
You wish you looked like that when you are in your 50's you fucking piece of shit.
Not to kick the band when it's down cause this really sucks but listen up other bands and anyone who has a truck with expensive shit in it. This is why you pay extra and put the fucking truck/car/van in a bonded lot overnight. Every town has one somewhere in it.

"may the motherfucker who stole mike watt's bass have his dick fucking turn black and fall off!"
I heard the thieves were women.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 5:49 AM
JESUS -- this is why you use a Matter Condenser to shrink the entire fucking truck/van to the size of a cashew and stick it in your leather jacket pocket. Fucking ASSHOLE AMATEURS
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 6:53 AM
of course thieves suck but it makes NO SENSE AT ALL to park so much expensive and meaningful equipment on the street in a not-that-great neighbourhood like a block from the on-ramp to the highway. this is just fundamental tour smarts and it boggles the mind that they didn't know better. and, the hotel has a parking garage. too bad they didn't fork over the $25 to use it.
Posted by sho | August 5, 2008 7:09 AM
good luck selling most of this stuff. man those pain killers really work though.

Iggy deserves better than the Embassy Suites, for Christs sake. Or was only the crew staying there?
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 8:44 AM
Of course 6:53! This is why you pay extra and use a Matter Condenser. Every town has one somewhere in it.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 9:05 AM
The same thing happenned to Camper Van Beethoven in Montreal.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 9:12 AM

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 9:58 AM
so what happens for terminal 5- do they rent equipment? do they postpone- this is so sad
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 10:26 AM
Stealing Mike Watt's bass is a sin, like shooting a mockingbird.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 10:43 AM
But stealing music is okay.
Posted by hardly harhar | August 5, 2008 10:48 AM
wouldnt you take your bass and guitar into the hotel with you?
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 10:48 AM
I think they stole iggy's shirt too.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 11:03 AM
it's understandable how some crappy little indy band's gear can be jacked from their van outside a venue on a dark street in Brooklyn late at night, but how on earth can a real touring band of the Stooges stature have their stuff taken from in front of a real hotel in the morning daylight? Aren't there enough hired people with the band and roadies, etc that are watching this stuff, etc.
This sounds fishy. Like an inside job or something.
Real bands with record company money behind them don't just have their stuff stolen in broad daylight in front of a major hotel chain by complete strangers who just walk up to the van and take it.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 11:10 AM
>so what happens for terminal 5- do they rent equipment
fun house acapella yo
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 11:10 AM
I agree with anon 11:10am
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 11:28 AM
11:10 - the gear AND truck were stolen meaning - the thief just hopped in the truck and balled out....no one could unload all this equipment in front of the hotel and not have anyone notice it....duh.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 11:34 AM
Sweet.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 11:40 AM
d. boon did it
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 11:43 AM
11:34... duh....
There wasn't someone watching the truck? IN the truck? With that much money in equipment inside on van, and a professional touring band, they could well afford to have someone sitting inside the drivers seat of the van ALL NIGHT.
There's no reason why the van should have been left unattended for someone to hop in and drive it off. Something about this still seems odd to me.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 11:47 AM
Jesus H. Christ that's alot of equipment! I wonder how much all that adds up to. Not to mention sentimental value and whatnot. I have a guitar it isn't worth shit but it's my first guitar I've had since I was a kid. If someone stole that I would cut off their balls and choke them to death with said balls.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 11:59 AM
yeah, when they have movie shoots and have those equipment trucks sitting there overnight after all the cast and crew has gone home for the day, there's always someone sitting in the truck all night.
A band like the Stooges must have beefy security guards and roadies etc that travel with them. Why wasn't one of them with the van?
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 12:09 PM
he went to get some coffee, maybe?
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 12:21 PM
Dope and disinterest couldn't kill The Stooges; this won't either.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 12:52 PM
Why doesn't this happen to bad bands?! Pete Wentz and Fall Out Boy all have they're equipment but Mike Watt's bass is missing?!?! This is fucked!
Posted by A | August 5, 2008 1:14 PM
the world needs lo-jack for guitars.
Posted by Aaron | August 5, 2008 1:16 PM
...I hope this doesn't fuck up the show on Friday...
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 1:32 PM
>Why doesn't this happen to bad bands?!
didn't this happen to Sonic Youth a few years ago?
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 2:05 PM
whats next- an iggy and the stooges starbucks album?
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 2:15 PM
fuck canadians
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 3:23 PM
this just in: daft punk stole the stooges' gear.
Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 4:59 PM
>>Real bands with record company money behind them don't just have their stuff stolen in broad daylight in front of a major hotel chain by complete strangers who just walk up to the van and take it.
It happened to DGC recording artists Sonic Youth like 10 years ago., they took the whole truck too..
I doubt a Penske Truck could fit in a hotel parking deck...

Remember how in Star Trek IV (IIRC), the Enterprise travelled back in time to get a couple of whales from Earth because they were extinct in the future, or some shit like that? I bet that's what happened here, they need to recreate rock 'n' roll in the future.

IT WAS MEE I DID IT!
Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 12:42 AM
best case scenario: a'la sex pistols, the thieves turn out to be the next revolutionary music thing using those instruments... worst case scenario: a mandatory double ass raping from lexington steele and a nightstick.

I thought those Limozeenz guys retired
Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 2:22 PM
I hung out with Mike Watt the day after it happened. He was really drunk, but in good spirits, considering.
Posted by SP | August 8, 2008 9:48 PM
i think this is the second time watt has had his gear stolen...the first was his white tele bass that was a gift from d. boon...this also happened to sonic youth a few years ago...but with good results sound wise...i like the change...
