do they suck as much as i suspect they suck?

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 1:07 PM

They don't suck. They just look weird.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 1:10 PM

Yes, they do. Complete lack of energy.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 1:11 PM

Yeah, they suck, like pretty much every band. If only music was only performed by BV commenters. Then we'd never have bad music, only masterpieces.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 1:16 PM

This band rocks...can't wait to see them again.

Posted by jason | August 6, 2008 1:16 PM

I really do not comprehend why this band gets such a bad rap by people on here. They are great. Every time i have seen them play they put on an amazing show. Lack of energy? Give me a fucking break.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 1:18 PM

It's never a good sign when the opener (the Whigs) are a better band than the headliner.

Posted by Robert | August 6, 2008 1:19 PM

it's never a good sign when people bitch and moan about a band they don't care 2 shits about
please

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 1:20 PM

i see they got downsized...

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 1:24 PM

I saw them open for U2 a bunch of times in 2005 and was not impressed at all.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 1:26 PM

they are good - U2 fans don't like them - so f-ing what?

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 1:29 PM

KOL are a very good band indeed. Just not everyone's cup of tea and definitely NOT the flavor of the month as many featured on BV tend to be.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 1:31 PM

KOL is massive in the UK. They sold out o2 Arena (23,000 capacity) in hours. How is it possible that they are playing o2 Arena and Webster Hall while touring this record?

Something doesn't add up. Perhaps this Webster Hall is part of a series of "promo" shows...

Thoughts?

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 1:48 PM

meh.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 1:51 PM

KOL are very good - shove your "meh" right back in your asshole.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 1:57 PM

no they just aren't as popular over here as they are over there
thank god
i'd hate to have to see them at a craazy arena!
are they even bigger then the artic monkeys over there

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 1:58 PM

oh man, i'm an elitist music connoisseur. i criticize every band. ever. because that makes me look cool. yet i don't have an ounce of musical talent. i couldnt carry a tune with a kazoo if my balls depended on it. here's a day in the life: i sit in my park slope apartment (which my parents obviously pay for), comb my hair for about 15 hours give or take, and then go to a show at which i obviously dont pay any attention to because i don't even like music. but my hair looks awesome so i stay for the duration of the performance. after downing a couple of light beers and trying to fit in, i go home and masturbate vigorously, comb my hair, then go to bed on my 1500 thread count sheets. the next day i pop on to mfr, stereogum, and brooklyn vegan and talk about how much the show sucked. then everyone agrees with me so they don't look like idiots because, let's be honest, to like a band which no one else does is a sin. you might as well eat babies.

Posted by melmoth | August 6, 2008 1:59 PM

i love this band and am really excited for this show.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 2:00 PM

U2 is horrible

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 2:01 PM

Band f*cking rocks live.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 2:06 PM

music sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 2:07 PM

kings of leon are awesome live. all you haters can go and try to get cold war kids tickets and hope that vampire weekend come around again soon.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 2:19 PM

Great live band, musicianship-wise. Should be great at Webster Hall.

Posted by Ron | August 6, 2008 2:25 PM

Love it! Even someone who defends a band feels the need to trash two other bands here to keep the coolness level.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 2:29 PM

These guys are sick, can't wait to see them Sat. "Complete lack of energy" is just a hilarious comment. Have you ever heard them?

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 2:33 PM

I love that these guys still get a bad rap!! Less competition for tix.

Praying to God I can get a ticket to this show before it sells out.

Posted by Drugs Delaney | August 6, 2008 2:37 PM

this is definitely a promo show, otherwise it wouldn't be at Webster Hall, and it wouldn't be on the day that their CD is released; it's probably a one-off

Last time they were in NY they played Roseland Ballroom i believe

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 2:37 PM

no last time they were in new york, they played radio city

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 2:46 PM

KOL were good like three years ago, unfortunately the success has taken a toll on their new music and the effort they put into their shows (especially in the states). They should have never started wearing v neck sweaters.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 2:50 PM

They are indeed a great live band. Some solid records, too (especially Aha Shake Heartbreak).

But, I'll tell ya, they are certainly a band that makes some fashion mistakes. At least the singer doesn't look like Eddie Money anymore.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 2:51 PM

"Yeah, they suck, like pretty much every band. " Why would someone who leaves a comment like this be reading a site all about today's music. That said, Kings of Leon are 1 of the best bands on the planet, can't wait for the new album and tour, this will be my 3rd time seeing them live.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 2:52 PM

aren't they like, um southern

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 2:53 PM

I wonder what NYC venue they'll play in November.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 3:05 PM

They will play MSG. If Interpol and Justice did, why won't KOL?

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 5:09 PM

presale dets peeps?

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 5:12 PM

Webster Hall should be good. I have seen them do an arena show in the UK, and they just don't have the presence for a large venue. They are lost in the big spaces.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 5:22 PM

I saw them play Bonnaroo, they were great in the tent the first year, but almost laughably not so great on the bigger stage the following year.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 5:43 PM

Laying it on a bit thick wouldn't you say melmoth?

I didn't know it was a prerequisite to play music if you want to criticize something.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 7:42 PM

I think KoL is fantastic on stage! They don't do the small talk, chit chat shit that a lot of mediocre bands do to tide over their set; They just play for a good two hours. It's a great show for people that like their music.

See you at Webster Hall and the Nokia in L.A.

(Love that they are doing smaller venues here. I'm terrified of the huge stadiums that they've been playing in Europe.)

Posted by SapphireSwell | August 6, 2008 10:19 PM

kings of leon fucking rocks

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2008 2:28 AM

anyone know the presale password for webster hall?

Posted by Anonymous | August 13, 2008 1:45 AM

webster hall is KINGS but good luck getting any, i've been trying for an hour.

Posted by Anonymous | August 13, 2008 11:48 AM

shit shit shit

Posted by Anonymous | August 13, 2008 1:16 PM

Why can I get no tix on ticketmaster, yet ticketmaster doesnt say whether it's sold out?!

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2008 8:44 AM

SOLD OUT

Posted by Anonymous | August 14, 2008 12:20 PM

How is it sold out when it just came out? I don't get how it could have been sold out when it was on presale..

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2008 12:17 PM

urgh...I don't know why I bother trying to get tix from Ticketbastards...they sold it out on the pre-sale, which they clearly did as at midday, as soon as the tickets went on sale, there were no tickets (online or on the phone). Maybe I should be prompting KOL to do a Pearl Jam and take on the monopolistic b*stard behemoth. Please god somebody start a rival. Please!

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2008 12:36 PM

I saw them at bonnaroo in 07 also and they were great on the big stage. Next to the police the only band I thought that owned the big stage. I mean, the solo during trani? Were you watching the same band?

Posted by Antonio | August 15, 2008 1:04 PM

I agree.... They killed Reading last year as Reading killed me..

I think APW was a case of the audience gets what it gives. Come on people sitting at the rails for a festival! Doesn't engender a fun crowd...

Posted by Anonymous | August 15, 2008 1:41 PM

if you don't know them you suck

Posted by Anonymous | September 22, 2008 4:21 PM

Anyone who has truely listened to the kings of leon and thinks that they suck is a fucking idiot! and most likely has no sense of the history of american rock and roll music.

Posted by Anonymous | September 23, 2008 9:04 AM

Its because of people's sense of history of rock and roll that Kings of Leon suck. Ever since The Strokes came out there's been a plethora of "nostalgia" bands coming out of the woodwork trying to cash in on their same success. KOL bring no new ideas to table. Just history, nostalgia, and borrowed ideas from their contemporaries.

Posted by The Fatman | September 23, 2008 9:18 AM

^^
Be that as it may, as least they sound good. That's more than I can say for a lot of the crap that gets rave reviews around here and elsewhere. I'm bummed I'm going to miss the show tonight.

Posted by Anonymous | September 23, 2008 9:24 AM

Anyone go to this last night? I want details, people!

Posted by Anonymous | September 24, 2008 1:09 PM

What's so fucking good about them?

Posted by Al | November 23, 2008 10:27 PM

nothing they suck ass. mostly down-stroked chords on guitar, shitty boring root-note picked bass notes, forgettable melodies, a voice that yes, may be unique, but still sucks. his technique sucks and that grit that he has annoys the fuck out of me.

Posted by Anonymous | June 21, 2009 3:33 PM

I don't see what "history of rock and roll" has to do with the public's perception of these guys. The fact that they rarely play more than 3 chords per song (technically one chord in their latest single) is evidence enough that they are not creative/knowledgeable musicians. Unfortunately, this shit tops the charts, and those of us who hate it must get used to it or simply STOP LISTENING TO THE RADIO.
Let these hacks sell out; their "true" fans are pissed at the band's success already.

Posted by Anonymous | July 23, 2009 11:13 PM

KOL suck so bad, Use Somebody is in constant rotation and doesn't deserve anywhere NEAR that much airplay. I think the 'song' has only 4 notes in the whole thing? No one wants to hear that straining and wretched voice, is he constipated and on the toilet???

Posted by T2 | October 23, 2009 2:13 PM

they sucks balls. they suck at writing lyrics because they repeat the same god damn lines over and over and over again. they don't have any stage presence. (compare them to, pennywise, weezer, sum 41, iron maiden, AFI. etc. they all move around and actually PUT ON a good show). the singer sounds like a little bitch when he TRIES to sing, and its the most annoying sound in the world. and they use pre-recorded backtracks of their instruments live for most of their songs which is pretty shitty. so in conclusion.

1. horrible, horrible songwriters.
2. no stage presence (movement, actually looking at their bandmates)
3. terrible singing voice.

whoever likes this peace of crap band is obviously tone deaf and should be put down along with the lady gaga and soulja boi fans. period.

Posted by Anonymous | October 26, 2009 10:52 PM

"I dont care what nobody say, We gonna have a baby" WOW, that's the lyrics of a 5 year old. My God they suck. The first time I heard "Use somebody" I thought it was a joke song. How he repeats the title over and over at the end in the video while looking down and forlorn is SO fake and cheesey. 95% of rock music is tired, uncreative, cliched crap. Theyre almost as bad as Kid Rock. Someone save the world from this garbage.
