ha...who's that dude with the cute blonde girl walking up the stairs?

If you're quick to decide that a girl is cute without having a look at her face, you must be desperate.

I haven't really listened to her record, but the pics make her show look pretty interesting.

how big is this place. just wondering?
Posted by Anonymous | August 29, 2008 1:47 PM
I don't know how to explain it with regard to size. The stage is in the middle of the room, with people either standing or perched at tables around it. It was odd, and seemed like it wouldn't work very well until the band actually started playing.
Also, that's "Cape Cod Kwassa Kwassa" there mid-setlist, and "Can I Kick It?" was rapped atop "Take A Walk On The Wild Side."
Quite an energetic show, too.

It's a variable capacity room (250-300 seated up to 500-600 standing room, depending on tables, chairs, etc. Last night was about 600+ there I think......amazing show!

^ I was wondering about Can I Kick It. That is awesome. The record is pretty good too. I finally got around to giving it a few listens. I figured "I'm Good" would have been one of their later jams though, but that's just because it's my personal fav.

you blog photographers are really creepy. When you see a pretty girl - you can't stop with the pictures for a second.

Whatever makes you happy. Whatever you want.
You're so very special. I wish I was special.

Likke Lame! Thin little pipsqueak voice and average songs at best. If her songs are so great why (not 1 but) 2 covers in a short 40 or so minute set? If she wasn't produced by the Peter, Bjorn and John guys and wasn't managed by the savy manager of the Shout Out Louds (able to bamboozle Capitol into signing the SOL's) no one would give a shit. Check her sales figures w a mountain of press and hype. Record didn't even crack the Top 70 album chart in the UK w/a huge $$$ push from the record company.
I swear these days hipsters will fall all over anything with a vagina and guitar or microphone.
Likke Suck is more like it.

Anon 4:23 should've smoked 3 minutes prior to his puerile post.
You have never been "Lykke Laid." Idiot.

She was sooooo good!! And did anyone else see Zach Condon from Beirut??!! I did! Vampire Weekend was also there, too if anyone saw that. I should work for Gawker...

*Work* for Gawker? People send them celebrity sightings for free, they don't have to pay for them.

She put on an awesome energetic performance last night! Saw her a few months ago at Bowery with El Perro del Mar and Anna Ternheim. She was even more impressive this time. Had great stage presence and played well in the round. Her set went on for about an hour; NOT 40 minutes. The NY audience was surprisingly good. Liked the venue. Bartenders were friendly. Bouncers were fat.
I'm not sure how sales figures equate to quality???
Yeah, her set wasn't two hours, but she only has one album out – of course she is going to play some covers to fill out the show.
Anon 4:23 – I'm surprised you have the mental capacity to operate a computer let alone pound some lame misinformed comments on a blog. Your handlers deserve a raise.

"Your handlers deserve a raise." haha Kudos, Adam.

um... did no one else notice that her vocals were way, way overproduced? and that her "band" would be singing into the mics when absolutely no sound was coming out?
don't get me wrong, i like her record a lot, and the show was energetic, but it was way more britney spears/madonna showmanship than live, legit singing.

lots of 2 chord progressions with a zesty peppery fun beat to them...I can understand why some would enjoy this but its not worth the hype...

Looked like an awesome gig. Fantatic pictures!

The venue has a decent-sized fixed stage in one corner (I saw El Vez on that stage a couple of weeks ago, and it's wonderfully generous in size for an act that requires a lot of movement like El Rey de Rock and Roll), And it has the feel of a classier Bottom Line (without fewer visual obstructions) when configured that way. It's comfortable, has good sound — it's decent room.
The in-the-round configuration relies on a portable stage put up in the middle of the room.
The room can hold 800 people in a standing-room show.
There are good people involved in creating and booking, including Ronen Givony of the Wordless Music Series, an awesome music program that seemed to burst onto the scene out of thin air just a year or so ago.
It's off to a good start as a solid venue in a part of town that's been a bit of a musical wasteland in recent years.
