The NYC area gets a pair of shows with Machine Head, January 29 @ Nassau Coliseum and Jan 31 @ Prudential Center in Newark. Ticket info is forthcoming.

In related Metallica news, the band "leaked" video of a new song, "Cyanide", as well as footage of the band blazing through a medley of Mercyful Fate classics with King Diamond from their performance at Ozzfest. Check it out, as well as the sphincter-like artwork below.

Down guitar player Kirk Windstein is going on tour in Kingdom of Sorrow with Gwar and Toxic Holocaust.

The artwork looks like a coffin shaped anus.

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 1:12 PM

sphincter magnetic

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 1:19 PM

"Listen b*tch - THAT'S where I want the drum solo! I'm Lars of Metallica, for God's sake."

lame.

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 1:19 PM

They should give pro tools pruduction credits on the album. These guys blow.

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 1:21 PM

you have to give them credit, at least they are not pulling vids off youtube unlike some other assholish "indie" bands.

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 1:22 PM

I give them credit for sucking and making shitty pointless music.

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 1:24 PM

"The artwork looks like a coffin shaped anus."

The artwork means the band is dead because they are a bunch of assholes.

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 1:25 PM

Free cyanide with the purchase of each new Metallica disc. I'm buyin'

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 1:26 PM

Lars looks like Michael Keaton

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 1:41 PM

Michael Keaton should play lars in the made for tv movie Metallica: Fade to Hack. Who would play the others?

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 1:47 PM

Guys, can't we just go in there and hammer it out instead of hammering away at each other?

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 1:51 PM

Hate all you want, they still put on an unbelievable live show.

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 1:52 PM

zzzzzzz! more apw posts and pics, please.

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 1:53 PM

Well, they do suck these days, the return of the old logo is a sign that MAYBE this new record won't be horrible, but I'm thrilled that they are FINALLY bringing some good bands out with them, I mean, for the 'St. Anger' tour they had Godsmack open for them! Is there a lamer band?? So The Sword, Machine Head, Down and Lamb of God are a major improvement!!

Posted by Brian | August 11, 2008 1:56 PM

I hope this album is the last nail they need in that coffin. Metallica sucks and Lars's anus on the cover is even worse

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 1:58 PM

"Michael Keaton should play lars in the made for tv movie Metallica: Fade to Hack. Who would play the others"

Nick Nolte as James Hetfield, with a special guest appearance by Dom DeLouise as the crazy, gung ho fan.

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 1:59 PM

Mary Steenburgen as Kirk Hammett

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 2:00 PM

i can't imagine spending a few hours watching this terrible band. god, these dongs should've closed shop about 15 years ago.

Posted by nippleboy | August 11, 2008 2:06 PM

Yawn...

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 2:08 PM

"Fade to Hack" <-- HA! Love that.

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 2:08 PM

Elaine from seinfeld should play kirk

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 2:18 PM

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 2:20 PM

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 2:21 PM

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 2:24 PM

metal up your ass, it comes full circle.

you dudes can talk big now but you know full well you wouldnt say that shit in the mosh pit. meanwhile one metal-meathead could probably take out 20 hipsters single handed.

just saying.

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 2:32 PM

jeez, has king diamond always been that much of a clown? what a shitty performer.

Posted by lou tibbs | August 11, 2008 2:32 PM

any band that performs with King Diamond should be embarrassed to call themselves metal.

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 2:35 PM

"you dudes can talk big now but you know full well you wouldnt say that shit in the mosh pit."

I'd say in the pit. I'd say it while spitting in your metallica lovin' face, playa!....then, of course, you'd grab me a beer like a good lil' beeutch.

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 2:39 PM

you sound pretty tough dude...

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 2:40 PM

"you sound pretty tough dude..."

Just wait til I dust off my Metallica inspired LA Gears and frosted jeans.

Posted by dave | August 11, 2008 2:52 PM

kirk's such a pansy they took away his guitar solos.

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 2:53 PM

i'll still download it

Posted by robert trujillo doesn't get his own comment | August 11, 2008 2:54 PM

robert trujillo gets nothing

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 2:58 PM

Hmm... well that song sucks. Very happy they went back to the old logo though. The butthole coffin is pretty bad - but seems appropriate. They need Newstead back.

Posted by Matt | August 11, 2008 3:32 PM

They sing a duet with Nickleback, will be released as a B-side

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 3:51 PM

surely you jest.

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 3:54 PM

Wow, that clip w/ King Diamond is just absolutely fucking god awful. Wow.

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 4:01 PM

i will download it of course as my own fuck you to these dinglesnifters

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 4:16 PM

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 4:23 PM

Lars smells like poop.

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 4:29 PM

Michael Keaton? Coffins?

"This is James telling Lars to SHUT UP! (rewind) This is James telling Lars to SHUT UP!"

Posted by oddua | August 11, 2008 4:48 PM

Cyanide is pretty awful even for "new Metallica."

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 6:33 PM

Hey third graders, it has to be sad to see your favorite loser band make $5 a show while the kings of metal sell out arenas all around the U.S.

Maybe you can dress in all black, wear some eye makeup, and write a mopy song about it.

Even then myself and the remainder of Metallica fans will laugh at you.

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 7:13 PM

so it's no longer cool to like metallica. i get it. you guys are all a bunch of douches though. whether the new album sucks (which it might) or reaches the heights of the first 3 LPs, you cannot deny the legacy. and when metallica/megadeth et al become certified cool by the dan deacon of '09, as they certainly will, i'm sure that you poseurs will all be sucking at Lars' teet.

Posted by creeping death | August 11, 2008 9:19 PM

I just listened to "Cyanide" and it's absolute crap. They should have renamed the band after Cliff Burton died.

Posted by Anonymous | August 11, 2008 11:03 PM

He puts the TOOL in ProTools.

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2008 1:22 AM

1:22 Hillarious.

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2008 11:36 AM

"so it's no longer cool to like metallica."

Was it ever cool?

Posted by Anonymous | August 12, 2008 3:31 PM

Lars speaks about making the album (they didn't master their own cd!) on http://www.iHeartMusic.com/metallica

they get interviewed by the dude from Apocolyptica
check it out

Posted by Steve | August 21, 2008 10:09 AM

Creeping Death is right. Saying Metallica has gone down the tubes isn't hard. They haven't aged well at all. But they made some of the best metal records of the 80s. Denying that is not impossible, but hard.

They're so much more artistically accomplished than any of these assholes in Williamsburg wearing tight neon and big sunglasses. You know who you are, you soulless bastards.

Posted by paulie | August 21, 2008 3:04 PM

these guys would kick the crap out of any of your pussy "indie" band music any day of the week.

sure, they're past their prime and haven't made anything good in over a decade, but Metallica ROCKS like no other.

So many pretentious haters on this blog.

Posted by Willie Fuckin' Nelson | August 21, 2008 4:50 PM

I was one of Metallica's biggest fans during the early days. They betrayed me and Cliff... fuck them. Like the guy said above... I would give anything to see Cliff or James from 1988 come back to confront James of 2008!

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2008 4:58 PM

Baby... I told you the kids will make fun of me if I go to Armani with you! Fuck this... I'm going to work on my cars... can you make an appointment for my therapist?

Posted by James Hetfield | August 21, 2008 5:00 PM

these posts are great. I love how metallica fans get so pissed.

I especially love this shit >>
"They're so much more artistically accomplished than any of these assholes in Williamsburg wearing tight neon and big sunglasses. You know who you are, you soulless bastards."

and ain't it the truth... those dudes still crush it on stage.

Posted by Anonymous | August 21, 2008 10:49 PM

Wow, that King Diamond hack sure stole my stage theme, what the hell?Did King Dianond black-mail Metallica to get on stage with them?Or is that coffin-anus for their career that they're seen killing off in this video.Someone gouge out my eyes, and stick knitting needles into my era drums. Now King Diamond can go die, like we all thought he had already.

Posted by Alice-Cooper | September 12, 2008 5:14 AM

CHUCK BERRY IS STILL THE KING OF ROCK 'N' ROLL!!! ROCK ON CHUCK.

Posted by rnkrl55 | September 12, 2008 5:41 AM

ya know guys i dont care what ya all say they still rock and whale out some awsome tunes u have to realize they are getting old they might not be as great as they were 15 years ago but they still rock. and maybe u guys are jealous cuase they have a life that u dont i will always support metallica there will never be a better song than for whom the bell tolls later losers in denial

Posted by Chops | September 12, 2008 6:17 AM

Posted by EG | September 12, 2008 8:09 AM

I just have to say I saw Metallica for the first time in Texas this year. I loved every minute of it except for the last part with that Diamond fella. He was a joke. Anyway, I have been a fan of Metallica since I was young. Everyone has there opinions. As for mine.....I still love them. Not every band is going to have a #1 with every album but they still rock and I still love them. I am a fan for life.

Posted by Mechelle | September 12, 2008 12:01 PM

Oh I get it.......this is supposed to be like "tough,metal,cool,intimidating....SCARY" right? Metallica has seen their glory days come and go a long, long time ago.But having this DOUCEBAG King Diamond up there with them just kills any sense of self respect they may have still have er had.

Posted by JoeDoe | September 12, 2008 1:38 PM

HEY FUCKER'S..GET OFF THE DICK...YOU ALL KNOW METALLICA FUCKIN RULES!

Posted by Raul | December 19, 2008 1:50 PM

yeah you guys outta lighten up. I mean, everything gets shittier as it ages its just how it goes.

Now if they didnt play any of their pre-black album songs when i see them tonight ill be disapointed
