Queensbridge Theater opening in Long Island City

Queensbridge Theater

Queens residents will have a new place to party this fall with what's being billed as a "rock 'n' roll supper club."

The Queensbridge Theater, slated to open in October, will be the first of its kind in the borough, where locals can dance, dine and watch live performances, all in one place.

The Queensbridge, which will occupy two floors of a five-story warehouse on 10th St. at 37th Ave. in Long Island City, was modeled after popular Manhattan nightclubs such as the Bowery Ballroom and the Mercury Lounge.

But it won't be as pricey, said co-owner Robert Prichard, who is partnering with developer Michael Waldman on the project.

"We are going to be able to attract a certain level of talent, but it will be in Queens with Queens prices," said Prichard. [NY Daily News]

biddi bo!

Bad enough I have to go to Brooklyn to see the shows I used to be able to see in Manhattan. Now, I'm going to have to go to Queens?

Can't wait for the Staten Island venues to start popping up.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 10:33 AM

^^^ yeah... getting to LIC is a real trek.

We don't want you in Queens, anyway, douche.

Posted by wembley | August 26, 2008 10:35 AM

This looks super lame, even though I live in Queens. They need to open a venue in Astoria or Forest Hills, or an area that doesn't completely suck.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 10:36 AM

Of course a dick from Queens is named "Wembley" too funny

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 10:36 AM

great. it was only a matter of time before hipsters started infiltrating queens. sigh.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 10:37 AM

whats a supper club? is this a restarant?

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 10:43 AM

restaurant?

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 10:43 AM

Queens keeps on fakin' it.

Posted by KRS ONE | August 26, 2008 10:44 AM

thats great, an alternative to bowery presents.

Posted by jim | August 26, 2008 11:03 AM

Could be good. I'm interested to see who they get. I have a gut feeling that Jesse Malin will play there a lot, which isn't thrilling to say the least.

Posted by michaelways | August 26, 2008 11:05 AM

are those residential units above? If so... they'll be closed within a month of opening.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 11:13 AM

Any money saved on the "Queens prices" will be lost when you are forced to take a cab home.

I live in Queens and would never consider walking to the train late night after a show in this part of LIC.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 11:35 AM

Haters wanna hate
Lovers wanna love
I don't even want
None of the above

Posted by noyokono | August 26, 2008 11:43 AM

I'm curious about safety. I live in LIC and this venue is across the street from the Queensbrige Ouses (PJ's) and I'm really not in the mood for the local hard-rocks getting the idea that it'd be fun to roll music fans on their way home.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 11:48 AM

You people act like this is 1980. Yeah, if you walk THROUGH the projects at 2 AM you do so at your own risk. But if you are leaving a venue in a mass of people to a subway stop that is one stop from midtown Manhattan, and a few blocks from gentrified condoville LIC, you'll be fine. I'd feel much safer there than by Market Hotel, at any rate. Just be cautious. Or move back to Omaha. Jeez...

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 11:53 AM

"are those residential units above?"

No. According to http://queensbridgetheater.com/blog/2008/01/10/hello-world/ the owner of the building is the developer of the theater and he plans to rent the lofts for commercial use.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 11:59 AM

i live in LIC and it's not a bad area at all
do you go to shows alone all the time or something?
walking to the subway in this part of town with another person is fine, you must be paranoid.

i'm excited for this, now i don't have to travel far when i go to a show. Hopefully they will get some good shows.

what a bunch of winers!
OOh a new club is opening i MUST complain!
I have an idea, if you don't want to go somewhere because of where it's located DON'T GO!

i'm sure none of your hipster bands will be playing here anyway.

this is a great thing! woohoo

"do you go to shows alone all the time or something?

Even just one determined mugger working alone would just as soon mug a couple as he would a single person.

Posted by McGruff | August 26, 2008 12:12 PM

I got mugged by Titus Andronicus at McCarren Pool

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 12:14 PM

I'm curious if this new venue will be stroller accessible.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 12:15 PM

"Even just one determined mugger working alone would just as soon mug a couple as he would a single person."

and guess what?
that can happen anywhere in any borough

the subway is not far at all from this spot
jeez do you ever leave the house?

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 12:15 PM

american-born blacks are scared of foreign-born blacks.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 12:25 PM

"do you go to shows alone all the time or something?

and what is wrong with this??

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 12:25 PM

Shaddup!!!

I'm just kidding. You are right.

Another music club (sigh).. how depressing.

And a train ride!!! (sigh) ...ughhh ...how depressing.

Will real New Yorkers please come back to New York! Please!

I would like to mug half of you just so that you will leave here and make a "cooler" scene somewhere else.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 12:26 PM

"do you go to shows alone all the time or something?

and what is wrong with this??"

absolutely nothing at all
but sometimes people are more leary of walking around in certain areas when they are alone.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 12:27 PM

"but sometimes people are more leary of walking around in certain areas when they are alone."

That's some good clarification, I wasn't aware that anyone ever felt that way, ever. Thanks for the update. One more thing - you clearly implied that you enjoy ridiculing people who attend shows by themselves. Don't try to go back on yourself now. You just sound like the owner of this venue or something.

Whelp...back to work in my home office in my luxury residence in Queensbridge. Really....some people are so paranoid and stupid to think that this area is in any way undesirable.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 12:37 PM

if you get mugged, you get a free drink next time you come.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 12:38 PM

(top shelf booze excluded)

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 12:45 PM

"i live in LIC and it's not a bad area at all

i clearly implied nothing of the kind
read my post again and maybe you'll be able to figure it out this time
that statement was posted in the context of walking to the show alone. and i'm not trying to go back on anything.

i am not ridiculing anyone for going to shows alone, as i've done so myself.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 12:50 PM

What's wrong with going to shows by yourself?

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 12:52 PM

Clearly he is choosing to read what he wants to in that post. I understood what you were saying.
people get so touchy
Noone is saying there is anything wrong with going to shows alone!

sheesh

Posted by amber | August 26, 2008 12:53 PM

One rather imagines that most of this site's commenters go to shows alone.

Posted by Greg | August 26, 2008 12:56 PM

haha
Yeah no kidding considering the uproar about an innocuous comment, that had nothing at all to do with ridiculing people for going to shows alone.

Posted by Barbara G. | August 26, 2008 1:01 PM

I don't understand - this is called a supper club - but then the article says "The 5,000-square-foot club will run 21 hours a day - from 7 to 4 a.m."

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 1:07 PM

what's wrong with going to shows alone?

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 1:08 PM

Free admission to anyone attending by themselves.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 1:08 PM

hey great 12:56. I looked over the bands you are "writing about" your taste in music seems to be rather awful

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 1:11 PM

why do people go to a show to hear music with their friends - and then they just spend the whole night talking to their friends. If you want to talk to your friends - just call them or go to a bar.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 1:19 PM

"One rather imagines that most of this site's commenters go to shows alone."

On rather imagines that Greg is an idiot.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 1:19 PM

a new venue in the city is not a bad thing.
(even if it is long island city)
most of you complaining probably don't live in new york anyway...and if you do, maybe you're in the wrong place.

that, and going to shows alone is awesome.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 1:22 PM

Hey "Amber": why are you assuming that 12:37 is male?

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 1:23 PM

ooh who's ridiculing now?

The writing is rather male like in my opinion
But of course it was just a guess.

Posted by amber | August 26, 2008 1:27 PM

Amber = Nicole. Lame.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 1:37 PM

Woohoo LIC!

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 1:45 PM

i always go to shows alone, pick up some indie slut and fuck the shit out of her.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 2:15 PM

i always go to shows alone, pick up some indie slut and fuck the shit out of her.

...and that's why i got these scabbies on my dick too.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 2:26 PM

oh no, i always pick belle & sebastian fans. they're clean.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 2:28 PM

That's good. Clean sluts are the best.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 2:30 PM

i doubt this place will be able to book any decent shows. it's pretty funny that everyone has been so quick to waste time complaining about it already though.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 3:01 PM

^^^^ Amen. What a productive morning. lol

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 3:34 PM

you can go to the chicken joint down the street and fuck a REAL whore.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 11:05 PM

fuck brooklyn. fuck mccarren park. fuck the lower east side. fuck market hotel (gently, gently, and with a french tickler). fuck "east williamsburg". and fuck queens while we're at it, so I don't have to repeat myself in October when you fucklickers infiltrate my borough and replace my corner chicken spot with a fucking faggy organic greek/asian fusion closet gay bar. fuck.

L.I.C = Losers In Condos

Whelp - it's been quite a few months here since this was announced. Has this venue opened? What the hell is going on? Their website was last updated in 2008 talking about some punk rock auction. That's great and all but I thought you were opening up a night/day club with supper, breakfast and dancing.

Anyone who actually lives in Queens or has any sort of "pride" for Queens is not from Hunters Point nor do they hang out there.
