Trail of Dead

Trail of Dead played as a two piece last night (Aug 25, 2008) at Santos Party House in NYC. More pics from the show at bill shouldis' Flickr. Video explaining why they did it (and the first song) below....

wow obnoxious hecklers. it's great when the band drowns their stupid comments out.

That absolutely would have pissed me off. What the fuck happened to this band?

was anyone there? did they fill out the joint?

Honestly, as a Trail of Dead fan, last night's show was pretty damn awesome. There were a handful of losers in the crowd acting like 16 year olds that just discovered drugs, but the guys were having a great time on stage and sounded nice and loud.

pissed i missed it.
i still think they make good albums.

source tags was the last time i really liked them. i remember seeing secret machines and explosions in the sky opening for them at bowery on that tour. good times.

the opening band was really good. conrad played keyboards with them. kinda psyche rock.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 1:02 PM

who was the opening band?

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 1:05 PM

Opening band was Shock Cinema I think

They were very, very good. Can't wait to see them with the full band with some newer songs thrown into the mix.

let me preface by saying, i was once a huge fan, and i was not in the building last night to witness this event.
that said, i find your statement that they were 'very, very good' to be not credible because you also state you are looking forward to seeing the full band and new material. the only chance they might have to restore themselves is to purge the unnecessary members, pretend the last two albums never happened and start anew. even so, i doubt they have a good album left in them.
it is interesting that they performed with this stripped-down lineup, and that gives me some hope that my once favorite band has a chance at redemption, and then i remember what a tool conrad is and i give up on them once again.

Not sure if this is a good or bad sign, but Jason told Nylon:
"This album is kind of a new thing altogether, just from getting a new producer and doing our own label. So it’s like breaking with conventions and jumping into the unknown and starting up this new thing."

anon 214 - yeah, thats not a cliche thing for a band to say in press at all

last night's show was incredible. i agree with most people that old trail of dead is much better than new. but the new stuff is still enjoyable. i feel that TOD played last night for the fans who like the older stuff. i think they sounded great! i did not care for the opening act. they pushed too hard with their gimicks. the dj was nothing special either. he just played entire songs and poorly 'mixed' them together. TOD rocked thou! great comment on the 16 year old kids who discovered drugs. they were annoying.

I didn't think the opener "pushed" any gimmicks. I might go as far as to say that they were pretty good. Agreed about the annoying drug kids.

They were very good last night. I am not a huge Trail of Dead fan but the energy they put into their set was great. It totally seemed like they were playing for themselves and lost any egos they may have had. It was fun.

1:59 - i feel your pain & hope for the best when it comes to the future of Trail of Dead. maybe they should just ask Neil to re-join already.

What time did the show start and end? I'm really pissed I missed it.

first half of set kicked butt so freakin hard. what an awesome informal way to see band - and they were both super high-energy and dug in hard - totally slayed. wish i saw this band first time as duo. second half of set slowed a bit but ended with a bang. and they were funny. openers were so so. dj was awesome. drug kids were stupid drug kids. big deal. all and all, one of the better shows in a while.

if they can put on a good show with just the two of them, why have 16 morons in the band?
