Hey wait! I know that hairless chest (photo by James Petrozzello)
UN

A band of unknowns announced their new self-titled LP to be released on Eyeball Records on September 9th, as well as another EP and a seven inch. Ok, they aren't exactly unknowns... it's just that the true line-up of United Nations ISN'T known. Lets start with the facts.... Yesterday, Geoff Rickly of Thursday sat down with Alternative Press to discuss his new side project, United Nations, a "secret supergroup of mid=90's screamo revivalists"

, here's a snippet:
So who are the members involved with this project, and what do they do in the band? Besides you and vocals, obviously

Well, I actually mostly played guitar and did some of the singing. The rest of the band are in contracts, so they're anonymous.

How did this idea first come up?

I was... This is really weird... I've known a kid named Daryl who plays in Glassjaw for a long time, and we used to go to shows, all the same hardcore shows, and we would get excited about a lot of the same bands. We both really loved what was going on on the West Coast in the early '90s, like Gravity Records stuff, really spazzy stuff. We also really loved the Ebullition style, mid-'90s, what they call the emo power-violence stuff.

Read the whole thing here.

So we have some kind-of-but-not-really confirmation that Daryl Palumbo is on board. That in and of itself is not a mindscrambler, but add in the fact that Converge has confirmed that drummer Ben Koller (also of Acid Tiger and ex-Cave In fame) is on board, as well as that message boards / the world's most accurate online encyclopedia are claiming Cooper of Made Out of Babies has joined on, UN takes on a whole new realm of possibilities.

United Nations is streaming their entire self-titled album at their myspace and you can download "The Spinning Heart of The Yo-Yo Lobby" from that record above.

In related Thursday news, Japanese badasses Envy will share a split with the band for Temporary Residence Limited, due on vinyl (with accompanying CD) September 15th. Spanning seven tracks, the record will have four new joints from Thursday and three new ones from Envy. The split was recorded this spring and Thursday enlisted Anthony Molina of Mercury Rev to remix one track, "Appeared And Was Gone", the lead in to Envy's first song. Pick it up at TRL when it drops....

In other Made Out of Babies news, lead wailer Julie Christmas is on board for Spylacopa, a supergroup of sorts that also features Greg Puciato (The Dillinger Escape Plan), John LaMacchia (Candiria), and Jeff Caxide (Isis). The band is currently streaming one song "Out West" at their myspace and will drop their five song debut EP this November on Rising Pulse.

Thursday is currently working on (while twittering about) their new record with producer Dave Fridmann who also helped them out on A City by the Light Divided.

United Nations was inspired by early 90s bands on Ebillution. Portraits of Past (who originally called it quits in 1995) dropped their Discography on Ebillution and have reunited for a pair of shows in NYC this weekend.

The Dillinger Escape Plan recently dropped off a tour with Suicide Silence and are working on a new album.

alex doesn't play bass. but 5 other people do

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 4:45 PM

The anonymous thing is such a total gimmick. They are a bunch of nobodies anyway. If you're "under contract" with one band, it doesn't preclude you from playing in other bands.

Johnny Utah!

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 5:03 PM

Portraits of The Past and now this....

bringin it back.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 5:04 PM

Hey 4:54, it's very likely that Darryl Palumbo is under contract to Warner Bros. as an artist meaning they own him and any bands he decides to play in.

Depending on the nature of your contract, it can most definitely preclude you from appearing on releases from other record labels.

sounds like the jihad/ottawa split meets thursday so maybe a less slayer-fied You and I? i dunno throw in bleed and half man in there mixed in w/ people that can play their instruments and a production waaay ahead of the 90's bands they want to sound like ha.

Posted by scott beiben | August 26, 2008 6:34 PM

nice critique scott

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 6:55 PM

Sorry, I'm really digging this. The snooty Fleet Foxes, BV crowd won't like it, but it's pretty fucking solid.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 8:53 PM

thursday was pretty fucking solid besides the last album and fan base but if they buy tickets they tickets.

glassjaw's not to bad either.... head automatica just ruined my image of darryl.

Posted by Anonymous | August 26, 2008 10:09 PM

Thursday's only decent album was, surprisingly, the last one they released, which was prefaced in quantity by two really good singles on two really awful albums.

This gimmick is kind of dumb. Plus, not that it matters, but here's a little background:

In 2005, around this time, I saw Head Automatica (back when they made good music and teenagers and scene kids actually gave a shit about them) for free at virgin. It was great, which was surprising because Glassjaw have all of two good songs ever.

So after the show, the people I was with chopped it up awkwardly, like fans do, with Daryl and he went on, the likable scamp he is, about United nations and how it was his "grindcore project with Geoff from Thursday"

Which is laughable. Because in no way does this sound like Phobia or any other modern grind. And it barely sounds like what they've decided to rechristen the aim of this band for their press releases, which is some mid-90's screamo nostalgia outfit.

I can't pretend to be the most knowledgable person about 90's hardcore because a lot of it sucked and I wrote off most of it, but I know what actual grind, powerviolence and screamo sound like and this band sounds like a bad mix of the old screamo they claim to emulate and the newer shitty post-hardcore bands that arose int he alst few years that got lumped in with metalcore while claiming, somehow to be "grind".

i.e. the number 12 looks like you, the locust, etc.

Basically, it sucks, which is unsurprising considering the musical fail of everyone in that band not named Ben Koller (who as a Brooklyn resident may read this write-up, possibly maybe)

Not a bad idea they had, but it was doubtful from the beginning that this would NOT be crap.

Posted by Chris | August 26, 2008 11:15 PM

this is easily some of the best music i've heard released in a VERY long time.

will definitely be buying this and the Envy split!

Posted by Anonymous | August 27, 2008 9:13 AM

This is awesome!! I hope they play some shows i would LOVE to see this live.

Posted by Anonymous | August 27, 2008 9:19 AM

its not bad. its a combination of various influences they have....all in all its pretty good. odd that you say 2005 when HA was good but GJ only had 2 good songs... judging by that statement i cant acknowledge your opinion on this project....

Posted by rotting corpse | August 27, 2008 1:38 PM

anon 1115 get your head out of you ass, waiting was a solid album by thursday, and i dont know if it goes too far back for you as well but siberian kiss is one of glassjaw's greatest, that whole album was great

Posted by Anonymous | August 27, 2008 2:00 PM

Well, the thing is, you think they were better than they were.

Two good Glassjaw songs: "Ape Dos Mil", "Cosmopolitan Bloodloss"

Hey, listen, I'd love for them to have had better songs, but that was about it. Everything was just bland post-hardcore thrashing with Daryl's admittedly great vocals.

And if you didn't like "Decadence", you don't like good pop.

Dental care is one of the most important and difficult part of dog grooming as the pet dog may feel uncomfortable and turn agreesive when the owner or pet groomer attempts to brush the teeth.

Posted by Dog Grooming centres | November 13, 2013 2:44 AM

Due to the nature of the fur on dogs, the pet dog should never be bathed with cold water as it can be tramatizing. Instead, it should be bathed with warm water. Also, the pet dog might not be throughly cleaned with one bath. A second bathe may be necessary to ensure that the dog is throughly cleaned.

Most passenger airplanes take dogs to overseas or across the country. When you are traveling by ship, most ocean liners do have private cabin section for pet parents. For more side attraction when traveling by ship, there can be a trained assistant on ground to take care of your dog.
