The National fucking rule

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 2:35 PM

Those photos suck.
The national sucked.
Yeasayer was great.
Plants and Animals sounded great during soundcheck.

Posted by lala | August 5, 2008 2:40 PM

those photos do kind of suck actually. i'm pissed i missed it though, since they played geese of beverly road.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 2:42 PM

Setlist is wrong.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 2:44 PM

You're kidding about the pics, right?

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 2:46 PM

Yeah man. Every band except for the most popular band SUCKED. Ride the train brah.

Posted by michaelways | August 5, 2008 2:46 PM

I'm just being an idiot. I thought The National were good, but seemed really, really tired. I wish they'd play Bowery again soon. Yeasayer sounded excellent.

Posted by michaelways | August 5, 2008 2:47 PM

they haven't played geese the last two times i saw them. all three bands are great live. wish i coulda been at this show.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 2:48 PM

It was a great show. The National were great, very into the show. Didn't seem tired at all.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 2:51 PM

the national blew away both modest mouse and r.e.m. at jones beach in june.

the national are an important band in these days of major crap.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 2:52 PM

im a huge national fan but was utterly disappointed by the show. the crowd was miserable and wouldn't shut up. the national sounded flat and tired. never a good thing when half way through a show they make an excuse, "were in chicago yesterday, new york today, and norway tomorrow"

Posted by thatguy | August 5, 2008 2:54 PM

too bad the national's lyrics suck.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 3:01 PM

Yeah, screw them for having sincere lyrics.

Posted by michaelways | August 5, 2008 3:01 PM

They are supposed to sound flat and tired. That's the point.

But yeah, the photos do kinda suck, even #2.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 3:03 PM

i was near middle of crowd, and i thought it was a very respectful very quiet crowd, especially during the slow songs like Green Gloves and About Today. you could hear the crickets from the park even. setlist is definitely wrong, missing Apartment Story. thought the show was pretty great.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 3:03 PM

off topic... (and I will surely get a sh*tstorm for asking) but has anyone heard what's up with Sufjan? New album??

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 3:03 PM

I suck.

Posted by Allen | August 5, 2008 3:06 PM

fucking incredible show.
the national are so good.
yeasayer were really good too.
plants and animals were okay, but paled in comparison to the other two.

Posted by dan | August 5, 2008 3:08 PM

not really off topic... Sufjan and National are buds.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 3:09 PM

zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

Posted by rip v | August 5, 2008 3:18 PM

yeasayer just keep getting better. the live show is so good

Posted by ROCK STARchitect | August 5, 2008 3:34 PM

3:00 pm, who do you consider good lyricists? nickleback?

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 3:37 PM

as far as the National / Modest Mouse / REM gig, I thought the National definitely blew Modest Mouse right off the stage, no contest. I'm not sure about REM though, they were on fire that night. It could have easily been a two-band show (and I like Modest Mouse).

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 3:40 PM

I don't think these photos suck.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 3:43 PM

yeasayer were incredible the national sucked thats my vote, his voice does not translate to a live setting

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 3:43 PM

mr. november was the musical highlight of the night.

however, the mr. november/obama t-shirts were the worst part of the night.

Why does Matt insist on turning his back on the crowd when he has finished singing?

Numerous times the song would continue for another 30 seconds or a minute yet he'd be over by the drums , not having seen them live before I wasn't expecting that. I assume he does it all the time. Is it born out of some kind of insecurity?

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 4:04 PM

uhm, yeah. was right in between the two light poles and thought the crowd was very quiet when they did the slow songs, no insecure too cool new york assholes chatting it up to ruin it. just a bunch of people having a good time. and this was my seventh time seeing the national and this rivaled their bowery shows. seriously. amazing. and on a perfect night. and was majorly impressed with yeasayer. if you didnt have a good time here, where can you?

Posted by josh | August 5, 2008 4:16 PM

I noticed Matt turn his back to the crowd quite often I saw them as well, but i was standing at the back of the stage and didn't mind. One thing you don't see in the audience when he's turned away is his ad-libbing. He would scream additional lyrics at the drummer (away from the mic) - pretty bizarre, but also really intense. I think they're great live.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 4:17 PM

Truth is. . .The National Suck, I left after their second song (and that was just so I could finish my beer)

Yeasayer were great . .

Hate to break to you like this

Posted by me | August 5, 2008 4:40 PM

the national also trashed the dressing rooms, thanks assholes. They should have opened for yeasayer, deal with it.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 5:07 PM

It makes me SICK how good that first new yeasayer song was. SICK.
does anyone know what it was called?

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 5:08 PM

Last night's show by (insert performer name here) was (insert "the best", "amazing", "the greatest"). They really (insert "killed" or "destroyed"). It was better than any other show that went on last night. The sound was (insert "great", "amazing", "unreal"). I have no idea what you whiners complain about. It was the (insert "best show of all time" or "show of the year")

Posted by exaggerating idiot | August 5, 2008 5:20 PM

those are the least funny mad libs I've ever seen.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 5:28 PM

Yesayer was(were?) excellant. I was happy to have been able to watch them in relative peace...as during The National I was subjected to the chatter of the frat boy fucks behind me. "blah blah that girl is hot" "yo, where is rock?" "dude!" "Dude...this song is great...so anyway on Friday night..."

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 5:35 PM

and doveman was on the keyboards!

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 6:07 PM

doveman was awesome. his show at le poisson rouge on the 23rd should also be awesome.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 6:12 PM

"those are the least funny mad libs I've ever seen."

Well good thing it was not an attempt to be funny.

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2008 6:17 PM

The *funnier* thing to do (which I just did for the 2nd time) is to read/sing exaggerating idiot's post in melody and cadence like it's actually lyrics to a National song.

Posted by greg | August 5, 2008 9:22 PM

elvis rules.

Posted by frank | August 5, 2008 10:01 PM

I really enjoyed this show, however it seemed the audience could have livend up a bit. Many of them were just standing idol down front towards the left where I was. There was even a guy who had his fingers in his ears. That I will never understand afterall there is a back portion to the perimeter if it is too loud to handle.

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 2:46 AM

they are amazing!

Posted by liveon35mm.com | August 6, 2008 5:11 AM

i kept thinking yeasayer sounded like an indie nickelback at that show

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 7:12 AM

the national and yeasayer killed it

these pictures did not

Posted by Julian | August 6, 2008 9:41 AM

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 10:09 AM

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 10:16 AM

Thom Yorke wannabe

Posted by Anonymous | August 6, 2008 12:15 PM

these pictures are great, actually. fuck everyone saying they suck, i don't see your pictures up here. if you're going to sip on some haterade, back it up.

Posted by LJ | August 6, 2008 12:54 PM

According to my analysis, billions of persons on our planet receive the credit loans from good creditors. Hence, there is a good possibility to find a financial loan in any country.
