oh and is the Market Hotel show really going to start and end anywhere close to 7 and midnight, respectively? it always seems it's more like a 10:30 start, 2 a.m.+ end.
Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2008 4:13 PM
Yeah, if there are only two bands at the Seaport will it really start at 7 pm?
Posted by Songs About Knives | August 22, 2008 4:25 PM
Seaport is pretty good about times.... they always start at 7. It gets dark a little earlier now remember.

where is the market hotel?
Posted by Anonymous | August 22, 2008 8:04 PM
4:13 really wants to shit talk people into not going to Market Hotel, don't he
that fiasco show was over at midnight, shows haven't been starting at 10:30 there since May.

Violens were seriously good at Seaport, excellent sound too. Probably the best thing I've seen there this season (missed DP last week).
Posted by bill p | August 22, 2008 10:29 PM
woah, would definitely not say that violens was seriously good. they were just alright. nothing memorable though. didn't see the dirty projectors either but they always put on a great show.
grand archives was majorly disappointin. the bearded guy sitting down on the right hand side of the stage kept singing his notes too sharp and off key and his microphone was turned up so loudly that it drowned out the rest of the other guys vocals. it was cringe worthy.
good album, with nice vocal harmonies, but live, these guys still need to get their shit together. not tight at all (for a good example of tight live vocal melodies see grizzly bear) and the show was all over the place.
they could also stand to loose the other guitar player who doesnt sing and more often than not just hits on a tambourine. tighten up and lose the dead weight guys. you've got lots of potential.
highlight of the night: old man spinning round like a little 5 year old without a care in the world. it was hysterical. it was beautiful. and it was inspiring. wish i could say the same about the bands.

9:21, listen dick. i've been to 3 in the last month and a half and none of them have started and the scheduled 8-9 p.m. time. it's typically 10-10:30. and it's not me 'talking shit,' it's me giving a heads up and trying to figure out what to do. i showed up tonight at like 8:30 and nothing was fucking going on. total borefest all the way until 10 and by that time i left. cool venue, cool people, love the place, etc, but i'm not going to waste my fucking time.

japanther & ninjasonik played halfway between brooklyn and manhattan on the willyb bridge last night. it was nuts. cops came. the rest is history.

I enjoyed all the Grand Archives songs I heard - and I had never heard any of their music before. Nice harmonies, and a nice mix of slow and faster stuff. I also thought the sound was pretty loud for the Seaport, also a good thing. The Gordon Lightfoot cover was pushing it (Sundown), but probably caught the attention of some tourists just passing by.
