Heavy Trash

Jon Spencer and his Heavy Trash project with Matt Verta-Ray (Madder Rose) played Glasslands on 8/8 with Aussies Witch Hats. Here's how my esteemed colleague Bill Pearis described it:
If you're not familiar with Heavy Trash, Spencer does the same to rockabilly as he did to the blues -- he explodes it. Well not really, but he does have that certain intensity so this is more Hasil Adkins than Chuck Berry...The pair play a show tonight (8/11) at Santos Party House with Make-Up/Weird War/Nation Of Ulysses honcho Ian Svenonius on the wheels of steel....Another surprise was Australian band Witch Hats who I also knew nothing about but ended up buying their record afterwards...... they laid down a thick layer of fuzzy, slightly gothy garage rock (think early-'80s Fall), powered by one of the best drummers I've seen in a long time
Witch Hats are currently in the midst of their first US tour, check out below for their full remaining schedule. RCRD LBL has two Witch Hats songs up for download.

How 'bout some live Svenonius? The Make-Up's live shows were pretty legendary.
Does he have any current projects?

not Witch Hat, from Baltimore. I got excited until I saw it was an Aussie band using the same (similar) name. Witch Hat are great, don't know about Witch Hats. Heavy Trash are always great.

yeah! svenonius is an amazing frontman. its ashame he hasn't performed in a couple years. He'd put King Khan to shame! Svenonius was doing that absurdist garage/soul schtick years before King Khan (with the Make Up) and doing it much better!

Fuck...I LOVEEEEE The Make Up! BTW, how cool is that Reservoir Dogs gunslinger-style Heavy Trash press photo up top! Damn...the man is STILL cool!

the staff are stupid, the drink prices are high, but the sound is good, its air conditioned, and they have a good booker...and its relatively convenient to get to.
i like santos.
