What time did Wolf Parade go on last night? *sigh*

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 11:49 AM

terminal 5 sucks. pretty much pay to watch a show on tv with $8 beers

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 11:50 AM

Around 9:10/15.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 11:50 AM

last night was the best.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 11:51 AM

i'd love to see the setlist if anyone has it.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 11:56 AM

Every time I have seen Wolf Parade in the past I have always left feeling let down. I could never put my finger on it, but they never blew me away live...until last night! They sounded like a completely different band from the last few times I checked them out. I left the show more than satisfied..this time I left deciding if I was going again tonight. Sick!

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:02 PM

They went on at like 9:11 and got off at 10:35

And they owned.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:02 PM

Not too into them but i got dragged along last night, they really did rock, great show

Posted by slob | August 1, 2008 12:07 PM

they sounded really tight last night, especially during "kissing the behive," which almost had a trance quality to it.

Posted by kure | August 1, 2008 12:10 PM

I think this should become the standard comment on every show review thread at this point

Last night's show by (insert performer name here) was (insert "the best", "amazing", "the greatest"). They really (insert "killed" or "destroyed"). It was better than any other show that went on last night. The sound was (insert "great", "amazing", "unreal"). I have no idea what you whiners complain about. It was the (insert "best show of all time" or "show of the year")

Posted by exaggerating idiot | August 1, 2008 12:11 PM

ha!

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:13 PM

CAUM!

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:15 PM

way to be a dick, 12:11.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:18 PM

they were tight as shit

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:22 PM

12:11 is jealous that he was too cool to be at this kick-ass show.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:22 PM

Last night's show by Wolf Parade was amazing. They really killed. It was better than any other show that went on last night. The sound was unreal. I have no idea what you whiners complain about. It was the show of the year.

Posted by MusicSnobbery | August 1, 2008 12:23 PM

...I am going to say something positive about Terminal 5...they have the best air conditioning of any venue in the city, I was so impressed when I went there to see BJM...

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:23 PM

"It was better than any other show that went on last night. "

what about bruuuuuuuuuuuuuuce?

Posted by butternuts | August 1, 2008 12:33 PM

i really hope they play "kissing the beehive" again tonight

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:37 PM

Last night's show blew me away. The band's performance, the crowd's enthusiasm, all of it was just fantastic.

They weren't THAT good. And please tell me why they have a touring keyboard player. LAME!

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:44 PM

The band was great, but the moshing?? Come on, what year is it?? Even spencer asked what the deal was with the moshing. You could tell he was not happy about it at all. There is nothing wrong with dancing, just don't start pushing and slamming into each other and generally pissing everyone off around you. There are better ways to let out how much you hate your parents/schoool/life. I understand they draw a much younger crowd these days, but I still wish they had made one of the two shows 21+.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:50 PM

Hey anon 12:44 - That wasn't a touring keyboard player. His name is Hadji Bakara and he has been a full-time member of the band since day one. People need to stop posting bullshit they don't know anything about on here!!!

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:53 PM

I hope there isn't any moshing tonight. That shit is mad annoying.

Posted by michaelways | August 1, 2008 12:55 PM

i was right down front - there wasn't any hardcore "moshing" - just a lot of excited people dancing A TON

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:57 PM

I have never pumped my fist so hard at a show before!

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 12:58 PM

i thought there was an opener last night (wintersleep), and that doors were at 8, opener at 9 ... or is the opener just for friday night?

Posted by eli | August 1, 2008 12:59 PM

12:50,

http://www.subpop.com/artists/wolf_parade

they're still no reason for 2 keyboard players let alone 1. ROCK.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 1:01 PM

agree with everyone, last night's show was excellent. got there just in time for them to start, so i missed wintersleep. going again tonight. is wintersleep worth checking out?

Posted by ciceroj | August 1, 2008 1:06 PM

1:01: really? since when are you the authority on a band's fucking instrumentation?

Posted by des | August 1, 2008 1:11 PM

1:11,

Since today. BEOCH.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 1:15 PM

Last night doors were at 7, Wintersleep went on at 8, Wolf Parade at 9:15. Show was really good, Terminal 5 did not suck as much as I expected.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 1:16 PM

1:06,

Wintersleep is definitely worth checking out. My only qualm with the show as a whole was that I wish they'd left WP mic'ed or turned up as loud as Wintersleep (WS were very loud, and I loved it).

Reading up on them, it looks like a couple of the Holy Fuck guys play with them; much different though.

Posted by StopCrying | August 1, 2008 1:25 PM

thanks, stopcrying. i'll go early to check them out.

Posted by ciceroj | August 1, 2008 1:27 PM

"terminal 5 sucks. pretty much pay to watch a show on tv with $8 beers"

They only charged me and everyone i was with $6 for a beer. Maybe they did't like you? Or maybe you weren't even fucking there?!

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 1:30 PM

Tonight's show was way better than last night's so bummer for all of you that chose the one.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 1:39 PM

I expect to see this kind of crap from musicstupidry but

"Last night's show blew me away. The band's performance, the crowd's enthusiasm, all of it was just fantastic."

"I have never pumped my fist so hard at a show before!"

Oh jesus christ on a stick. Show was good but calm down.

Posted by A Manhattan Not Brooklyn Asshole | August 1, 2008 1:42 PM

Not a bad show--not an incredible show (let's face, it these guys could definitely spruce up their instrumentation).

I guess as a big Krug fan I prefer seeing Sunset Rubdown--also the new record... not great.

And sigh--thanks for I'll Believe In Anything--but why'd it have to be so rushed?

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 1:47 PM

This was not such a great show but yeah the crowds enthusiasm was undeniably good

Posted by John | August 1, 2008 1:47 PM

1:47 is the authority. Everybody throw out your previous feelings on the show and bring them to parity with 1:47. For those that might have been overly excited about the show before, now you know that you actually weren't.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 2:03 PM

Tonight's show is one hour later than last night's. Last night was an 8 go time, tonight's 9, thus we assume they'll go on shortly after 10 tonight.

Posted by Tito | August 1, 2008 2:07 PM

this was one of the best show of the year

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 2:10 PM

both bands sounded awesome last night. real tight, real cohesive. tracks off mount zoomer brimmed with energy and an elevated sense of urgency almost. would have to say best songs of the night were 'language city' and 'this heart's on fire'. and for chrissake, someone get dan some food.

Setlist:

You Are a Runner
Soldier's Grin
Call It a Ritual
Grey Estates
Dear Sons & Daughters
Language City
Animal in Your Care
Shine a Light
Beat Your Drum
We Built Another World*
Fine Young Cannibals
California Dreamer
This Heart's on Fire
Kissing the Beehive

Encore:

It's a Curse
I'll Believe in Anything

*not completely sure about this one, but definitely a track from apologies

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 2:36 PM

lol @ anon 2:02. Yeah dude for sure come to a party with me so you can finally figure out your feelings on Wolf Parade's 8/31 show at Terminal 5--it'll change your life.

Seriously though I like what you did there with making fun of my matter-of-fact style, but aren't we all just sharing our opinions on the show?

Does anyone know of a posted setlist yet????

Just to give more ammunition: I thought Destroyer's show earlier this year at Bowery Ballroom was way better. SWEET!

Posted by anon 1:47 | August 1, 2008 2:37 PM

A Manhattan Not Brooklyn Asshole - My apologies. Next time I'll try not to enjoy the show as much. I'll also not enjoy the fact that the people around me were having a great time as well.

I'd like everyone to join me in not liking the next show you go to so the crowd can be a mass of people standing looking disinterested. After that we can see many posts on BV about how NY crowds are too apathetic towards the performance. That seems like a great plan, who's in?

Posted by mp77 | August 1, 2008 2:38 PM

* You Are a Runner and I Am My Father's Son
* Soldier's Grin
* Call It a Ritual
* The Grey Estates
* Dear Sons and Daughters of Hungry Ghosts
* Language City
* An Animal in Your Care
* Shine a Light
* Bang Your Drum
* Fancy Claps
* Fine Young Cannibals
* California Dreamer
* This Heart's on Fire
* Kissing the Beehives

* ENCORE: It's a Curse
* I'll Believe in Anything

Does anyone else prefer Mt Zommer over Apologies?

Posted by michaelways | August 1, 2008 2:53 PM

RE: 2:53

Uh.... no. That's ridiculous.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 3:01 PM

I agree with 2:53

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 3:01 PM

i can't believe the number of douchebags in the audience last night. bunch of dunkards elbowing people in the face and spilling beer all over everyone. i got showered with someone's alcohol during language city, but fortunately the bouncers escorted those twats out the door.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 3:15 PM

I enjoyed the show thoroughly with the exception of Dan's quick story about Russian emo; wasn't feeling it.

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 3:15 PM

is that guy from hot hot heat still touring with them?

Posted by Travis | August 1, 2008 7:00 PM

I'll Believe In Anything (Terminal 5)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GM2bo6Oo5DQ

Posted by Anonymous | August 1, 2008 9:11 PM

who let all the douchebags in? serious meathead quotient. after the show, 2 big meatheads looked around and started loudly demanding to know "who let all the immigrants in" and questioning "what planet" they were from. awesome. viva douche bags.

Posted by wholetthedouchesin? | August 2, 2008 12:14 AM

night 2 was awesome

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2008 12:17 AM

Night two sounded great but it was a giant asshole-fest to say the least. Terminal 5 only brings out the best.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2008 12:38 AM

Wolf Parade were seriously really fucking well rehearsed, and spot on the entire night. It was a really good show despite the amount of annoying pushing and shoving douchebags.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2008 1:02 AM

For those who went to both shows, which was better of the two?

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2008 1:06 AM

went to both. exactly the same songs, though they played grounds for divorce the second day. no stage banter the second day also (no spencer commenting on the moshing, no dan joke about russia). they did the i am a runner->fancy claps the second day only though, which was totally sweet. the only major difference id say was the crowd, it was fucking crazy the second day. a lot more bros in a more defined and stupid violent pit. made the first day look mild. both were great but extremely similar, though id say the first day was a lot better because it was all new, whereas i knew what they were giong to play basically before they played it the second day (i.e. soldiers grin second, fancy claps last before encore, its a curse/ill believe encore, playing all of mount zoomer)

ps. though @mz has it moments, there is no way it is better than apologies. from a major wolf parade fan. hate to say it, but there is no ill believe, no sons and daughters, no modern world on @mz, though soldiers grin is a great tune. however, they are very different and i can understand how people with different tastes can like @mz more.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2008 2:45 AM

edit:

*(playing kissing the beehive last before encore)

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2008 2:47 AM

the first night was way better in just about everyway than the second, the crazy people who wanted to mosh just upset everyone and it seemed as if the band was not as spot on for songs such as kissing the beehive or perhaps as into the music as they were the night before. agreeing with anon. at 245 there was no banter with the audience, except for calling us sweet and sweethearts which I totally wasn't experiencing being bashed into by some guy with his shirt off constantly.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2008 9:27 AM

the last guys vids are much better. the first vids by lennon, pretty boring? was too far away and no focus. Next time get closer to the stage or get a camera with better zoom.

Posted by Marty S. | August 2, 2008 11:16 AM

Thanks for posting the "I'll Believe" video. Had to leave before the encore and was hoping they'd close with that.

Posted by Otto Man | August 2, 2008 11:47 AM

T5 show sucked ass. Both bands bored me to tears.

Posted by Anonymous | August 2, 2008 12:29 PM

That was a fucking rock show. Those Zoomer tracks sound more like Apologies live. Aggressive sound. The 'I Am a Runner' > 'Fancy Claps' dissolve + 'Beehive' were Tito's highlights.

Posted by Tito | August 2, 2008 4:06 PM

www.youtube.com/user/themacaronic

got some videos from the first night, although i wasn't as close to the stage as initially hoped. but do enjoy them anyway!

This Hearts On Fire (Terminal 5 7/31/08)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSvj-vnpgCI

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2008 1:44 AM

near me two chicks wouldn't stop talking but the band was awesome. Crowd seemed to like it and i didn't see any moshing.

T5 isn't that great-feels sterile for music. Upstairs had a little better beer selection but the TV's got in the way of the view. Downstairs was like just bud for beer. Terminal 5 is just way out there, no bars nearby taht I found.

Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2008 5:50 PM

You know, there's a bar on the first floor too with selections other than bud...
