a spotlight on Growing (ATP NY pics included)
words by Montreal's BrooklynVegan Mike, photos by Zach Dilgard

Growing (Joe Denardo and Kevin Doria) are an experimental/drone duo originally from Seattle that have relocated to Brooklyn. Growing's music resides on a very specific plane that embraces intense rhythmic patterns and quirky experimentation. Ranging between pedal-heavy loop collages and electronic ambient explorations, they are equally at home opening for Boris (as they did in April) as they are opening for Hot Chip, which is what they're doing on their next tour that hits Pop Montreal October 1st and NYC two and three days later.
Like Boris, their catalog is incredibly varied. Their new record for The Social Registry, All The Way, is an unrelenting panorama of looped effects and mesmerizing drone at very determined pacing. The new single, "Wrong Ride" (video below), sounds like the soundtrack to a nitrous high under a radiator. I haven't stopped listening to All The Way since it dropped a couple weeks ago and I'm looking forward to their next live show.
This past weekend they played the ATP festival in upstate NY. Download their set as an MP3. More ATP pictures, the video, and all tour dates below...
