Astroland is closed, the Coney Island rides are for sale

"Free rides and food for Thor guests on Thursdays in August. Won't see any of this next year! It'll be an empty lot. Goodbye Astroland! Farewell Break Dance!" [by me-myself-i]Don't say farewell to Break Dance. Buy Break Dance! It's currently going for just under $300,000. The entire list of rides for sale is HERE.
The Cyclone and Wonder Wheel are landmarks though, so even after the last trace of Astroland disappears, those will always be there to ride, or at least look at like the old Parachute jump. More pictures below...

my fiancee and i had our first date at coney island. i proposed to her inside astroland. super, duper bummer that its going.
i can't imagine being shut off from the world for two years, coming back to new york with no yankee stadium, no cbgbs, and no astroland.

if you follow the link to the list of inventory for sale, they've misspelled "liquidation". a total ghetto enterprise.

new addition to the freak show: "Marky Markowitz, ladies and gentlemen! The Brooklyn Borough President who presided over the demise of Coney Island, Atlantic Yards and the waterfront rezoning! Even the old man who hammers nails into his forehead feels sorry for this guy."

Another victim of Mayor Billionaire and his developer friends.
Posted by Anonymous | September 8, 2008 2:56 PM
You think the little billionaire would atleast have the brains to save the rides for a future museum project ala the rock n roll museum.Guess all he cares about is the billions of dollars out of town developers are filling his pocket to yuppify and suburbafy this once urban meca.
But NYC's appeal will be gone once it looks like every other city in the USA.The same ugly condos. The same suburban looking malls. The same county state rides.
Coney Island-think how many songs have been written about Coney Island from Lou Reed alone. How many movies shot there, from The Warriors to Requiem for a Dream. How many music videos. How many Rolling Stone covers. All that will be gone when it will be stripped of its punky urban appeal. It will be just another boring place that was once special.

Anon 2:45,you mean Bloomhattan.
Yeah, the shit is real there.I went to 34th-42nd street the other day,and almost got blinded by the tourist morons snapping pictures of anything.Wow,a clothing store.Wow,a shoe store.Wow,a Disney Store.I was like "morons, instead of snapping pictures of a disney souvenir store, why don't you go to Disneyland?"
Posted by Anonymous | September 8, 2008 3:45 PM
because 3:45pm, its still new york city and to people not from new york, thats a big deal.
i remember the first time i came to new york just a street corner was amusing to me because it looked like every picture of new york id ever seen and there it was, real and right before my eyes.
so someones taking a stupid picture of a clothing store, who cares? theyre called tourists for a reason and thats their right, whether you like it or not.
dont be such a stuck up cunt.
