Calexico @ Webster Hall

Calexico's new album Carried to Dust was released earlier this month.

New album Carried To Dust is their most ambitious yet and is a return to form after 2004's Garden Ruin, an album that saw them make a lunge at the mainstream. For that record, Calexico had shorn themselves of the mariachi brass that had been such an instantly recognisable part of their sound, relying instead on pedal steel to augment their country-inflected rock. It soon became apparent how much the horns were part of their dynamism. Now they are back to their vibrant best, with a set of songs and instrumentals that mix contemporary Latino sounds with US post-rock. [The Independent]
Last night they played a show with Oakley Hall at Webster Hall (9/24). More pictures below...

Almost looks like a Tucson sunset in that first photo.

great show

I agree, it was a great show. The instore at Other Music the night before was possibly even better. The band brought a taco truck to that one!

Love the way Red Blooms has evolved from the Carried to Dust studio recording. It almost sounds like a completely different song - very spacy and atmospheric.

I always love seeing Calexico.

It is a plaid shirt.

He’s doing a new plaid. There were lot of people from Tucson is the audience, which was awesome. Excellent show.

Good to see Fred back onstage w/Oakley Hall.

Joey Burns was wearing that same shirt the next day during the sound check at Millenium Park in Chicago. Maybe he has more than one? He changed to a red plaid shirt for the show.

Garden Ruin was released in 2006, Feast of Wire in 2003.
