Bumbershoot

Booking hometown heroes Death Cab for Cutie to headline the final day of Bumbershoot was a wise and appropriate choice, considering the band and festival are rising rapidly from local to national prominence.

Touring behind the album "Narrow Stairs" and playing in front of a backdrop displaying the record's cover art, Death Cab delivered big during its largest Seattle performance to date.

Hearing the band's sublime songs under a dark, cloudy sky with the Space Needle overlooking Memorial Stadium during the last night of Bumbershoot created the perfect Emerald City scenario. It doesn't get much more Seattle than that.

Throughout the group's 90-minute set it was clear the band has completed its transformation from that group of indie kids only trendy scenesters knew about to a full-blown, stadium-packing rock band. The set included material from "Narrow Stairs" as well as older records, giving both new and old fans something to enjoy. [Seattle PI]

Tickets are still on sale for the upcoming Death Cab For Cutie shows at Radio City Music Hall and House of Blues in Atlantic City - two of the four shows that St. Vincent was recently announced as opener on. Death Cab's upcoming tour also includes dates where Death Cab is opening for Neil Young and St. Vincent has an upcoming show at BAM.

Holly crap, though - that last picture of Ben in this article makes him look like some underworld creature from Lord of the Rings.
