erykahbadu

"At 37 years old, Badu is a sweet and unpredictable presence (and about five months pregnant). Her teased-out fro shook in the Austin breeze and the Dallas native made a point of her politics with a long, mid-set riff on occupation and the Zapatistas and the coming World War featuring the people against the system. If she's an analog girl in a digital world, she gets a flexible, bass-thumping groove from her big band, featuring dueling beat pads, live drums, flute and three tightly rehearsed back up singers/dancers. The sea of festival freaks never stopped bouncing." [RiverFront Times]

There's a big difference blindly hating people of the Jewish faith and hating the Zionist occupiers of Palestine. She falls into the latter category

The expression on that weirdo's face in the last picture is positively hilarious.

"Zionist occupiers of Palestine"

yeah, those are people who practice the Jewish faith. She hates them ALL.

6:44 - she loves Farrakahn. That's proof enough... if a singer said they loved David Duke in their song, they'd be a bigot, right?

...and great timing, BV, to post this during the Jewish holy week.

I wish she would stop occupying music.

"...and great timing, BV, to post this during the Jewish holy week."

This is a music blog by the way, MUSIC.

"and great timing"

yes, it was great timing. She played Austin City Limits over the weekend and now we can discuss whether we like her or not. She says dumb things, but she makes good music.

Thanks for the pictures, even if she is a bitch.

Zionist =/= Jew. Zionism is an expression of imperialism, not of religion.

As for Badu's support of Farrakhan I can't answer for her. I do know she played in Tel Aviv at the beginning of the year, at which she wore an anti-war shirt protesting the Iraqi War. Not exactly the acts of someone who wants Israel pushed into the sea, eh?

"Stop Occupying Music"

That is a great slogan for that ebay sign auction i read about in Pfork.

anti-semite or not this show was a big yawn. I made it through about half an hour and bailed to get dinner.

I was a little dissapointed with her set...she went on about 15 - 20 minutes late and I never really felt like she was too into it (my expectations were high so they might just not have been met). Nonetheless, dedicating Tyrone to her boys My Morning Jacket was pretty sweet.

I agree with the last post. I had really high expectations too and while her set was great, I suspect it wasn't as good as other nights. I think she looked a little off but a lot of that could have been attributed to her being pregnant and the Texas heat and dust. I am a fan of all of her work except for most of the new cd unfortunately and she played only a few songs that weren't on the new cd.

As for the racist calls I highly doubt she is anything along those lines. My friends decided to go shopping in the middle of Beck and Robert Plant only to run into Erykah at a stand! She was sweet and humble and told my friends that she never takes anything for granted. Beautiful and classy woman if you ask me.

She sang "Tyrone" with MMJ in Dallas last month.
