fashion week favorites MGMT - 4 NYC shows in October, hopefully Will Berman's foot recovers, 2008 tour dates
photos by Zach Dilgard

MGMT recently
* got really big really fast
* played a MINI show on a NYC roof
* played a Prps denim party at Highline Ballroom
* didn't play a SoCo show in Albany due to an injury
Soulwax recently remixed MGMT. Get the MP3 HERE.
One of the music stories of the summer was, like it or not, that MGMT drew huge crowds almost everywhere they played. Lollapalooza was one of those places. The (not yet posted) pictures in this post are from that performance.

MGMT fucking sucks.
built by a major label....
a shitty one

I actually love the electrodouche sound of MGMT.

MGMT were hands down the worst band that I saw at Lolla this year. Dreadfully bad. Absolutely painful. So bad that Blues Traveler were AMAZING by comparison. Yeah I said it. Blues Traveler.

quick! hipsters unite and hate on MGMT before something new comes along that is also good but you deny it because they become popular!
Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2008 11:11 AM
so does this mean they're playing Oct 30th at Webster Hall with Justice? Is this some kind of sick joke?
Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2008 11:25 AM
i don't hate MGMT
I just don't understand how they became so big
because of that electric feel song?
really?

balls
Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2008 12:21 PM
It's called MKTG and they were never good.
Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2008 12:26 PM
Do any of you people have any friends?
Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2008 12:29 PM
i think it's the time to pretend song
though most of us have been familiar with it for the past two years or so
i think mainstream society had just caught on to it this past summer
god i didn't realize how so many bands i started listening too two years ago are now all over the place
mgmt
did you know they play mia on trl?!
thats deep right there

i think "fashion week favorites MGMT" just about says it all.

"so does this mean they're playing Oct 30th at Webster Hall with Justice?"
I think the Justice DJ set is late night...after MGMT. doors at 11pm.

i get the feeling with this band that complainers have only heard songs like time to pretend and electric feel and hate without hearing how great the rest of the record is.

I'm psyched for these two shows and I've seen them twice already AND I'm going to both United Palace shows. what's wrong with you people, just admit it's a great album. p.s. their Lollapalooza set was A+.

Ready, on 3...2...1... Start the backlash. MGMT's too popular. Got a major label deal, so they have to suck. They always sucked. They only have one good song and I liked it two years ago. Now it sucks.
People, it's just a band that did something fresh: They wrote a damn interesting album that included some likable tunes, whether you believe it or not. That's why crowds show up. That's why your negativity says more about you than it does about them. They didn't invade Iraq or beat up starving children. They made some interesting music. Period.

I can't think of any album within the last year less satisfying than MGMT. Any sort of appeal or interests wore thin after a handful of listens. Absolutely non–substantive vacant dribble put out by two guys who look like they were made in some sort of hipster factory.
Just because something is popular doesn't make it good! Exclamation point!

Beck's gonna for surely make these kids read Dianetics. Just imagine the tunes they will write as "cleared" Thetans!

remember remember the 5th of november,
see you at the halloween show.

I am very well studied in music. as instrument players they are outstanding! of course they got big...they had a major label backing. what's wrong with that? they will eventually become better at their live shows. give them some time, just a little bit of time.
they are more creative than any band i know that is making music right now. if you have another band to show me that has more creativity right now...send it on music genius.
led zeppelin will always be the best band i know.

ALL YOU FREAKS TALKING SHIT ARE JUST JELOUS
THAT MGMT CAN MAKE MUCH BETTER MUSIC THAN YOU CAN,
AND THAT THEY ARE SELF-MADE AND YOU ARE SUPPORTED
BY YOUR PARENTS, LOOSERS

I swear, if I hear one more damn hipster kid complain about how a band gets popular due to a major label picking them up, I may kill someone.
If a band sounds good of course someone will find them out and pick them up eventually. Why do you ask? ITS BECAUSE THEY ARE GOOD...DUMBASSES. Get a life, and quit crying about it. I for one am excited for MGMT on the 30th at Webster Hall.
If any of you are bitching about MGMT still, here is a solution, don't show the fuck up when they play. I don't, and no one else needs, your lame hipster negativity.

Just a tip for "all you freaks" as Subtlefoe says. He is the pot calling the kettle black. He himself is just a little rich kid from KY who thinks his "music" is actually good. He couldn't stand on his own two feet if he tried. Oh, and if he could spell correctly that would be a plus (spell check was invented for a reason, use it).
But if anyone would actually like to talk about MUSIC ~ MGMT ROCKS!!! So actually compare them to the other "bands" out there in the industry today and tell me that they don't deserve high regards.

MGMT are catchy as fuck... I like ripping spliffs and swaying to their calypso-pop rhythms.... That is all.

Have you ever finger-banged a girl to MGMT? It's FUCKING exhilarating.

The Halloween show sold out quick... and prices on Stubhub are already over $100
Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2008 11:54 AM
OK you fucking hipster douches, get ready to call Daddy and empty the wallets. Christmas came early for me so now im passing on the savings to you. No hassles with Craigslist, Ebay or Stubhub. I got 2 tix for the Halloweeen show for sale. 250.00 each. You know they are going to go for nothing less than 300.00 on the ticket resale services when all is said and done.
If interested leave your email address. I would like to get this done rather quickly.
And save the scalper scum comments for someone else. It is a supply and demand society so fuck you.
Thank you to this totally ordinary band for putting some nice change in my pocket.

"And save the scalper scum comments for someone else. It is a supply and demand society so fuck you."
Umm no, FUCK you. And I got tickets. That is one of the most obnoxious posts on this site, and that's REALLY saying something. Please no one buy tickets from this douche. Just a total piece of shit. period.
Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2008 1:10 PM
There are around 125 Music Hall tickets up on stubhub. That's roughly 25% of the capacity of the venue.

Wow Subtlefoe. Do you have a little bit of an anger management problem? I'm not really sure what exactly your problem is in life but I'm pretty sure it's hard to pronounce. And to be honest, it sounds like that guy might know who you are... your music does blow.
Maybe you could leave this page so the rest of us can talk about music?!
Peace
