Flipper

Flipper are kicking off a tour in the month of November at Fun Fun Fun Fest (um, who isn't playing this thing), scooting up the east coast and then out to Europe. NYC gets a date - it's Nov 15th @ The Knitting Factory with locals Excepter and Monotract. Tickets are on sale.

Flipper 2008 looks like this:

Bruce Loose (Not Original Vocals, but close - joined in 1979)
Ted Falconi (Original Guitarist)
Krist Novoselic (Bass)
Steve DePace (Original Drummer)
Novoselic (Nirvana) hopped on board Flipper in 2006 when the band toured Europe with old friends The Melvins and played the Thurston Moore-curated ATP. The band recently finished recorded a batch of new songs with producer Jack Endino. Endino has produced High On Fire, Valient Thorr, Soundgarden, Mudhoney, Nirvana, and most recently, Toxic Holocaust who are touring with Gwar and Kingdom of Sorrow and are playing Irving Plaza on 10/8 (tickets here).

You can catch Novoselic blogging about politics at the Seattle Weekly. All Flipper dates below....

LAME. I feel bad for Novoselic.

This is pathetic! A Flipper reunion???

sad.

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2008 8:25 PM

Flipper made one good record! Does anyone really care ? And Novoselic? His retarded attempt at entering politics 10 years ago was an insignificant failure. Has anyone read his bullshit of a book? It's sub-retarded...

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2008 10:08 PM

NIRVANA WISHES THEY WERE RADIOHEAD, FUCK YALL 90'S GRUNGE NOSTALGISTS WHO THINK CRAPPY AREA BANDS LIKE DEAD DOG AND SHELLSHAG AND SCREAMING FEMALES AND PLAID AND "SHIT-GAZE" AND "NO-FI" ARE HONESTLY BETTER AND MORE FORWARD-THINKING (YA RIGHT) THAN THE SUPERIOR MUSICAL PROWESS OF THOM YORKE AND CO., YOU ARE WRONG, AND DEATH BE UPON YOU

Radiohead SUCKS!

Posted by rob d | September 15, 2008 11:34 PM

nirvana rules! radiohead on the other hand are a bit over rated to say the least.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 12:01 AM

HOw can radiohead be overrated? they rule.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 12:16 AM

I tripped BALLS once listening to "Generic" by Flipper. It was in 1986. Sigh.

Posted by MamfeMan | September 16, 2008 7:03 AM

RADIOHEAD MAKES THE BEST MUSIC. .

I COULD CARE LESS IF YOU DISAGREE

NIRVANA IS DEAD,

AND SUBTLEFOE IS BORN

Posted by SUBTLEFOE MUSIC | September 16, 2008 8:03 AM

Thom York is a fucking idiot. Radiohead blow, go listen to some real music. Ok Computer came out like 10 years ago, GET OVER IT.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 8:55 AM

is it even possible that flipper is still good? i'll be there to find out all the sordid details.
what does nirvana have to do with radiohead, except that radiohead would never have had a hit single if they hadn't used nirvana's trite loud/soft verse/chorus/verse and ridden very happily on nirvana's coattails. i happen to think they are both fantastic bands. and i like flipper too.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 9:08 AM

"ridden very happily on nirvana's coattails" ???

You're obviously a moron or in a shitty band.

Probably both.

Posted by Dolphins make bad TV | September 16, 2008 9:21 AM

"radiohead would never have had a hit single if they hadn't used nirvana's trite loud/soft verse/chorus/verse"

I can think of 1000 other bands before Nirvana that used your "loud/soft verse/chorus/verse" idea. Nirvana sucks and are highly overrated! Radiohead is the best!

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 9:26 AM

Hey, what happened to the original bassist in flipper? I am not a Flipper fan, I'm a radiohead fan.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 9:39 AM

but, among those 1000 other bands, how many paved the way for modern rock radio to pick up radiohead in the first place? not only that, but nirvana exposed many thousands of people to more obscure rock music than we otherwise might not have heard.
nirvana was fucking awesome, most of us know that. you should try listening to them.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 9:56 AM

9;56 is a little slow and musically retarded. I like Nirvana, but you don't seem to know what you're talking about.

This is supposed to be a fan page for Flipper anyway! People like you make Krist Novoselic sick! That's just what he wants, nirvana fans wining about nirvana when the poor guy just wants to rock in one of his favorite bands! Jesus...

Posted by Flipper4ever | September 16, 2008 10:05 AM

Since when was there a Nirvana/ Radiohead beef? Did that literally start on this post? I've heard all the Nirvana vs. PJ stuff, but I've never heard Nirvana and Radiohead compared. It doesn't even make sense, their styles are completely different.

Why would someone even pick Radiohead as a band to compare with Nirvana? Seems NIN would've been a more apt choice. BUT THATS NOT TO SAY START A BULLSHIT NIRVANA VS. NIN ARGUMENT. Its completely ridiculous, how can you argue preference? Can't we all get back to ninja's vs. pirates?

ninjas>pirates

Posted by & by | September 16, 2008 10:13 AM

10:05, i don't know what i'm talking about with respect to what? i like it when people take shots without anything to back it up.
i didn't start the nirvana/radiohead commentary, in fact i questioned what the two bands have to do with one another.
however, nirvana clearly opened commercial radio to alternative guitar rock with similar attributes, such as creep.
i honestly can't tell where you find fault with any of my observations here.
you're right about one thing, this thread should be about flipper, but once this ball gets rolling the record should be set straight. i can't stand nirvana haters, they're 99.9% full of shit and they need to be told as much. and as far as connecting radiohead to nirvana in any way, the lineage of 90s alternative radio rock is the only answer. both are great bands in very different ways. and so is flipper.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 10:41 AM

also, i like how you claim to speak for chris novoselic, 10:05. i make him sick because i like nirvana's records? do i make him sick because i observed nirvana's impact on commercial radio, both positive (radiohead) and negative (creed)? or do i make him sick because i, and many others, moved from listening to nirvana to discovering all sorts of punk and indie music? fuck off, idiot.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 10:46 AM

Boy, I sure am hungry.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 10:57 AM

RADIOHEAD RULES.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 11:11 AM

we should really talk about flipper for a change. I'm psyched for this!!

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 11:15 AM

agreed. anyone hear any reviews of their shows so far with this lineup?

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 11:20 AM

somebodys angry! hoo wah!

Posted by Al | September 16, 2008 11:21 AM

I'm curious about the set list as well. Anyone? Do they play every song?

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 11:35 AM

I think its too early to know.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 1:13 PM

I'd rather see radiohead with Novoselic.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 1:14 PM

radiohead is a more important band than Nirvana. It's a fact. theyve pushed the envelope. Nirvana were a fad. They made one good record over and over again. nevermind is no OK computer!

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 1:16 PM

important bands suck.

Flipper have always and will always rule. "EVER!"

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 1:24 PM

Important bands suck? NIRAVA WASNT IMPORTANT??? YOU BLOODY CUNT.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 1:30 PM

jesus christ people. both bands were/are important. lots of people like both bands. there is no reason to discuss which is better, they did completely different things.
nirvana were great at what they did, and they did not make one record over and over again. listen more closely. try the peel sessions. all live recordings. what a great band. in utero is fantastic, as well, and many of their b-sides are top notch also.
radiohead is the best band in the world. their b-sides are also amazing. that is always a good measuring stick for greatness, in my eyes.
nirvana was once the best band in the world.
these two concepts can peacefully coexist, but they have nothing to do with the upcoming flipper show, which i am very much looking forward to.

Nov 10 in New Orleans has also been cancelled. Novoselic is now listed as a former member in Wikipedia. I wonder what went down...

Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2008 1:08 AM

looks like the whole tour has been cancelled. Wikipedia states that Noveselic left the band due to "family matters". damn you, Carl Winslow!

Posted by Anonymous | October 4, 2008 1:21 AM

Flipper rocks. Anyone who disagrees just can't deal with music that has balls.
