T5 website shows both shows being sold out...can't buy tickets on ticketmaster. Why the question marks?

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2008 11:15 PM

"T5 website shows both shows being sold out...can't buy tickets on ticketmaster. Why the question marks?"

Because without fail every time I write "sold out" someone comments they were just able to buy a ticket. Plus more tickets are always later released. I agree it's weird though, so I'll change it from "sold out?" to "sold out (or close to it)"

he must be making a LOT of money touring. good for him. no expenses and no band....playing these huge clubs. He could probably pull in a a mil easy this year.

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2008 11:21 PM

His tickets are cheaper than anyone else playing this place. I bet he's not making that much. Who's opening this 3rd show?

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2008 11:29 PM

holy shit how is he suddenly this popular?

wasnt it only yesterday he was playing mid-size venues opening up for dan deacon?

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2008 11:46 PM

GIVE ME A FUCKING BREAK. FANS of this asswad really need to rethink their standards of what a good show/musician consists of. This guy is a bullshit artist.

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2008 11:50 PM

I'd bang that chick on stage in the blue dress.

"Bullshit Artist" is the name of a really good St. James Infirmary song!

girl talk sucks donkey balls! a perfect example of just how horrible the majority of current music is.

Posted by rob d | September 15, 2008 11:58 PM

The music is a little stupid, but what can you do - it's great fun live.

Posted by Anonymous | September 15, 2008 11:58 PM

Yeah...people are intellectualizing the music too much.
He throws a good party, people jump on stage, get drunk and hopefully find someone to have sex with.

Shows are becoming more about being a social event than a place to listen to music.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 12:20 AM

People intellectualize the dumbest shit because it intellectualizes the intellectualizer.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 12:30 AM

play an instrument... that will impress me..
ugh.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 1:17 AM

Why isnt it named Guy talk?

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 1:18 AM

i hope he doesn't waste all that toilet paper again.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 3:32 AM

Hahah... "he throws a good party." "It's fun live." Only in Hipster NYC does noise and bells and whistles pass as something noteworthy. A THIRD show? Come on people.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 7:55 AM

only a stuck up pretentious dick would be afraid of fun.
come on people.
its a fucking party.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 8:25 AM

I think I can make a better mix cd than this guy....

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 8:30 AM

then get it on, amateur.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 9:01 AM

yea for real...what a stupid thing to say...do it...post it...let us judge, anonymously, as you have...id love to see what it sounds like

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 9:10 AM

this guy is a real pioneer of pioneering music.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 9:16 AM

i like the avalanches. when are they coming back?

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 9:24 AM

i heard girl talk started the mix tape

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 9:36 AM

whatevs, good for him, im still not going.

Posted by sarah | September 16, 2008 9:51 AM

"Shows are becoming more about being a social event than a place to listen to music. "

that comment says it all about how sad it's become. it's also why actual fans aren't able to go to the shows because people who go to be "seen" there snap them up instead.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 9:54 AM

Surely any 'actual fans' would be able to buy ticket prior to like 9000 of them selling over the course of 2 months.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 10:14 AM

"i like the avalanches. when are they coming back? "

Seconded

Posted by Beeeeve | September 16, 2008 10:26 AM

i just used the new "genius" tool in itunes and i made a better set than him!

Posted by beaver | September 16, 2008 10:33 AM

I read about her in the New Yorker.

Posted by marty | September 16, 2008 11:02 AM

@ 10:58
Am I supposed to be impressed by the abundance of his uninspired poor song selection?

Am I supposed to be impressed by his attention deficit disorder mixing skills because he's too scared of record labels to ever let a groove ride out past 30 seconds?

Avalanches used over 1000 samples in their album Since I Left You and created something transformative, unique and awesome.

Girltalk = Yawn

Girl Talk and Hipsters, made for each other. I love trends that last a week.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 11:23 AM

"I love trends that last a week." You might want to buy a new calendar...

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 11:30 AM

Terminal 5 is an awesome venue! Don't close this venue!!

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 11:36 AM

HOW DARE YOU WANT TO HAVE FUN????!?!?!! THERE IS NO FUN IN MUSIC.... if love animal collective as much as the next guy but there is nothing wrong with dancing and having fun. people need to chill.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 12:24 PM

Jesus this guy is a joke.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 12:31 PM

who the fuck pays 7 bucks for a beer at a party? Fucking sheep

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 12:32 PM

This Jesus guy is a joke.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 12:34 PM

You haters crack me up. Night Ripper came out mid 2006. Another album and 2 years later Girl Talk is headlining stages and selling out major venues. Seems like this trend lasts more than a week to me. Maybe my math is wrong.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 3:20 PM

don't hate

Girl talk brings hope to every talentless hack owning a laptop who has dreams of leaving their boring file clerk job so they can bring dance music to white kids that can't dance.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 3:35 PM

His shows are great. It's one big dance party(minus all the tools you see at clubs).

Labeling himself as Girl Talk is genius because keeps it from becoming a sausage fest(again, keeping out the douchebags).

Word up!

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 4:35 PM

he had night ripper as one of the top albums of the year in rolling stone, pitchfork, blender, spin, and every other major publication

he followed it up with a better album this year

he has been talked about in congress in a positive light about sampling laws

he has won a wired rave award

he has been featured in the new yorker, new york times, and every other major publication in this country

he has fans who are 15 and 50

he creates more interesting dialog about music (originality, ownership, sampling laws, performance) than anyone else out right now

he has been around for 10 years

he will be the first ever laptop artist to sell out terminal 5 three nights

i don't care what you think, give him some credit

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2008 1:57 PM

anyone know when girl talk goes on tonight? 11/15?

Posted by vader17 | November 15, 2008 3:25 PM

I think T5 has a reasonable curfew. I don't recall ever having been there past 11 or 12 if you're up for some backwards math.

Say word.

Posted by Tito | November 15, 2008 3:30 PM

I give this guy credit for making "music that everyone can make" but still being more successful than almost everyone that despises him. Hes done something right or else all of us would be headlining T5.

Posted by Anonymous | November 15, 2008 3:41 PM

Posted by vader17 | November 15, 2008 4:25 PM

1:57 -- "The Crowd is Untruth" -- Kierkegaard.

I.e., everything you list -- all the gold stars from all those media outlets -- amounts to nothing but a symptom of how low standards have fallen in the media and among cultural arbiters. I'm under no obligation to give him any shred of credit.

He's just a DJ. I don't care if everyone else on the planet reaches some consensus about his artistic merits otherwise -- he's still just a DJ.

Posted by Anonymous | November 15, 2008 4:34 PM

4:34's got it. since when does selling out big venues and having critical acclaim actually mean a band or artist is good? nickelback gets tons of radio play and plays arenas, but they're godawful.

girl talk is an overglorified dj, that's really it.

Posted by Anonymous | November 15, 2008 4:44 PM

Grand Buffet should be selling out T5 three nights in a row

Posted by Anonymous | November 15, 2008 6:44 PM

just a DJ...

he puts on a show. and it is....fun.

simple as that.

Posted by Anonymous | November 15, 2008 10:51 PM

girltalk, a spokesperson for windows? Anybody else see those print ads? Either way, GT = it. Nuff said.

Posted by steve | November 16, 2008 9:49 AM

He's a rock star... an absolute genius. His songs are incredible! Where has this guy been all my life? I wish I had heard his wonderful music years ago.

Posted by Anonymous | November 16, 2008 11:40 AM

11:40, are you being sarcastic and making a joke about how you have heard most of the songs he samples years ago?

if you were, it was funny.

Posted by Anonymous | November 16, 2008 4:55 PM

haha yeah if 11:40 was a joke, then it was hilarious. if it was serious, well, that's a shame.

Posted by Anonymous | November 16, 2008 5:26 PM

I don't think it was serious but it sure as fuck wasn't hilarious

Posted by Anonymous | November 16, 2008 5:34 PM

girl talk. time for that dude to go.

mash ups? c'mon. it's not 2004 anymore

Posted by Anonymous | November 16, 2008 5:35 PM

Worst trend EVER!

Posted by Anonymous | November 16, 2008 6:07 PM

I liked it better when it was called 'Paul's Boutique', but hey, give the guy some credit - I'm sure all you haters have watched 'Friends' or 'The Cosby Show' or teared up at a Celine Dion song now and again.

Your real problem is your hatred of yourselves: overcome that and you might just be successful in some aspect of your lives.

Lastly, Grand Buffet have been at it since 1997 and I'm happy I knew them back in the day. They deserve to be heard.
