Land of Talk, now with a great new drummer (again) (Andrew Barr of the Slip), played a one-off show at the Mercury Lounge in NYC last night (Sept 11, 2008). Tighter than ever, the three-piece from Montreal treated us to a well-tuned mix of old (relatively speaking) hits, and songs off from their new album Some Are Lakes, out October 7th on Saddle Creek. Look for Land of Talk on tour with Broken Social Scene this fall. More pictures from Mercury Lounge below...

Was good to see LoT for the first time in a year, after having seen them 5 or 6 times last year. Songs sounded great, as always, and (as mentioned above) new drummer was a great addition. The drummer they had last summer was ok at times, but the first time I saw them play with him he didn't really know the songs and needed lots of visual cues from Lizzie/Chris. I thought, "oh well, it's 'cause he's new." Unfortunately, that hadn't changed a month or two later!

The new songs sounded really strong last night. Bodes well for the new disc.

The percussion lineup was terrific. Although I was disappointed with Lizzie...the set lasted only 55 minutes but she spent 1-2 minutes between each song tuning one of her three gits. Then she layed up the lame excuses "we need to drive back to Montreal as soon as this show is over" and "come see us in Brooklyn with BSS if you want to hear more songs." No, Lizzie, I paid to come see you play TONIGHT. You certainly weren't in a rush while working the merch booth after the show...please don't short change us on the LES.

oh please anon @ 12:12. there was a show afterwards - bands have time limits. the show was amazing and i don't understand why people always have to complain.
