Mogwai played ATP NY (pics), cancels rest of US tour
photos by Zach Dilgard, words by Black Bubblegum

"We are sad to announce that we have had to cancel our remaining American and Canadian shows due to ill health. Our other dates in Europe and Japan will be going ahead as planned. We will re-schedule the shows in 2009.Get well soon Martin. Did you rock too hard at ATP? It is quite possible.I [Martin] was taken into hospital last night almost immediately after the show at ATP. I've been having some problems with my pacemaker for the duration of the tour and it unfortunately culminated in me being sent to the emergency room. The doctors there initially thought i would have to have corrective surgery at a larger hospital nearer NYC but i have been given the all clear to travel home on the understanding that i go straight to my cardiologist on arrival back in Scotland.
Tbh, i'm really bummed about having to go home and feel for the folk who had bought tickets for our upcoming shows but i can honestly say it would be almost impossible for me to carry on at this point as my pacemaker has broken skin and the surrounding area has become infected.
Mogwai
Fuck Buttons were touring with Mogwai. No word on if the band will scramble to put together some dates or just head on home.

Definitely best show of the festival, I'm not surprised that their shredding could mess up a pacemaker. Hope he recovers, I never will!

You should know that Martin takes his condition very seriously. This pace-maker was recently fitted and had been giving him problems from the start. Numerous specialists, however, kept reassuring him that all was well.
Both Martin and the other members of the band are very hard working musicians and are loath to cancel gigs. They do everything they can to ensure this will not happen. In short, they are professionals. To suggest that Martin was negligent re: his health is just shite.

Their set was mind blowing, best of the weekend. There were lots of bands I prefer over them taste wise playing at ATP, but you can't argue with how great they were.

All I can think about was how amazing "Mogwai Fear Satan" was. To the girl who yelled out "fuck yeah" at the end: ditto.

I was moved by how gracious Stuart was on stage in regards to the entire weekend. His quick speech about feeling the same sense of inspiration seeing Growing and Fuck Buttons today as he felt going to My Bloody Valentine and Dinosaur Jr. shows 16 years ago was truely heartfelt.
It was a very nice moment that added a new dimension of importance to an already spectacular festival.

This set was a snoozefest. Mogwai fear satan and hunted by a freak were fucking killer but the new material does not hold up in my opinion.
