the New Pornographers @ Sasquatch 2008 (more by Chris Graham)
The New Pornographers

Tickets are on Live Nation presale for a New Years Eve New Pornographers concert at Irving Plaza in NYC. They cost $66.50 each. Tickets are also still on sale for the show AC Newman is playing at the Bell House on November 15th. AC Newman's new album, entitled Get Guilty, will be released by Matador Records on January 20th. The cover art is below.

Also below: the new New Porographers video for "Mutiny, I Promise You" starring comedians Kurt Braunohler and Kristen Schaal. It's the same video that was screened for the very first time back in February at our Rock n ROFL party (those parties are on hold by the way). Check it out...

will neko be playing the nyc show?

Posted by Anonymous | September 29, 2008 8:57 AM

For $66 she better be!

Posted by Anonymous | September 29, 2008 8:58 AM

for $66, we should get full sets from Neko, Zumpano, Destroyer and NPs w/ full band. That's crazy. $16 more than MMJ at the garden.

"for $66, we should get full sets from Neko, Zumpano, Destroyer and NPs w/ full band. That's crazy. $16 more than MMJ at the garden."

much more intimate than MMJ at the garden!

Posted by Anonymous | September 29, 2008 9:08 AM

i don't need to tell everyone that MMJ will put on a WAY BETTER SHOW than the new porns, right?

Posted by grace6697 | September 29, 2008 9:13 AM

Hahah, $50 of that is "New Year's Eve Experience Cost" because on a normal day they couldn't sell out Irving for $16. Get real.

Thanks for the heads up, BV! The NP's' last e-newsletter (sent Sept. 10) said "We are currently in discussion about POSSIBLY doing a New Years Eve Extravaganza somewhere in the world. Stay tuned for the first word here on the Fake Headlines" but they haven't announced it yet.

Grace, you can kiss my hairy, pimply ass.

Posted by Anonymous | September 29, 2008 9:16 AM

9:16, why do you hate rock n' roll?

Posted by grace6697 | September 29, 2008 9:18 AM

"for $66, we should get full sets from Neko, Zumpano, Destroyer and NPs w/ full band. That's crazy. $16 more than MMJ at the garden."

for $66, we should get separate sets from bejar, neko, newman, neutral milk hotel, pavement, and nirvana (kurt would resurrect and fly down to the stage on a rope owen hart style)

I really do love the NPs, but that does seem obscenely expensive... even when compared to other NYE shows. If I knew that Bejar and Neko would definitely be there, I still might consider ponying up the cash... except for one thing:

My Morning Jacket is going to blow the lid off of Madison Square Garden, and I WILL be there to witness it.

Posted by wembley | September 29, 2008 9:50 AM

Their songs musically are very interesting and usually catchy. But their lyrics are horrible.

Posted by Rajah of Rehab | September 29, 2008 9:52 AM

Who is this AC you speak of?

Posted by Paul Newman | September 29, 2008 10:29 AM

Y'think prices will drop a bit?

Posted by Ray | September 29, 2008 10:41 AM

I would spring for it if assured that Neko and Dan will be in attendance. The NP's would be a fun way to spend NYE.

Posted by Anonymous | September 29, 2008 10:44 AM

Yay, Kurt & Kristen!

Posted by Le Chat Rouge | September 29, 2008 10:46 AM

No opening act?

Posted by Anonymous | September 29, 2008 10:47 AM

Id pay to see Destroyer all night first

Posted by Anonymous | September 29, 2008 10:52 AM

9:39, I think Owen Hart was just aping Sting. Except for, you know, the falling part.

Posted by Anonymous | September 29, 2008 11:28 AM

this whole "NP just announced another show/tour but didn't make it clear whether Dan or Neko will be there" is getting very old and very tired very quickly. Dont call it a New Pornographers show if they won't be there. Don't keep us guessing. We shouldn't even have to guess. Ridiculous.

Posted by mattz | September 29, 2008 11:42 AM

safer to say they wont be there

Posted by Anonymous | September 29, 2008 12:26 PM

So that video has better stage presence than their live shows do.

Posted by Anonymous | September 29, 2008 12:35 PM

the show is better off without neko and dan

Posted by Anonymous | September 29, 2008 12:35 PM

12:35 AGREED. When I saw them live without the two of them they were fantastic. When Dan and Neko were there.. they were boring and completely uninterested.

Posted by Anonymous | September 29, 2008 12:38 PM

wtf are you talking about 12:35 and 12:38? They are terrific without Dan and Neko... and I think that Neko can, at times, be a little distracting in the band. Her voice is almost too strong. Even still... who wouldn't want Neko around? She's absolutely amazing.. and always an asset to the NP crew.

But Dan? Kurt does a good enough job of singing Dan's songs live... but nobody can sing Bejar like Bejar. He's incredible, and really adds to the NPs live show.

Posted by wembley | September 29, 2008 12:58 PM

my brain can literally not compute the idea
that a concertgoer would go anywhere else
than to see MMJ on NYE.

Posted by grace6697 | September 29, 2008 1:57 PM

that's some brain

Posted by Anonymous | September 29, 2008 2:04 PM

yeah bejar was amazing during their last nyc round. Would never want to see them again w out there.

Posted by Anonymous | September 29, 2008 2:46 PM

Anyone who's anyone will be at Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart's Hot Pink New Years.

Posted by Mouth Of The South | September 29, 2008 2:55 PM

what kind of stupid assholes would rather see NP without Neko and Dan

I smell a case of the trolls

Posted by Anonymous | September 29, 2008 7:16 PM

so, why are they releasing another video so late in the album's life-cycle (i.e. not including it in their Buy Early Get Now promo).

thank god i havent burned my disc yet..

Posted by yonan32 | September 29, 2008 10:51 PM

if you're curious why some NP fans prefer seeing the band without Neko, remember this show--

http://www.brooklynvegan.com/archives/2007/08/new_porn_played.html

it was the first NPs show I ever saw with Neko, hopefully the last.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2008 5:26 AM

Jesus Christ on a stick, her behavior at ^that^ show was very atypical of her.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2008 11:55 AM

Neko's vocals are too strong???? By that you can mean that you can actually hear them? As someone who's not intimidated by a strong female presence on stage, I say give me Neko!

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2008 12:30 PM

Hmmmm....$50 tix for MMJ at a 14,000 capacity venue or New Pornographers at $65 at a 1,100 capacity venue. I like MMJ but blowing my socks off at 14,000 is going to be difficult.

Posted by Anonymous | September 30, 2008 3:29 PM

They made the video a long time ago (as a part of Kurt & Kristen's series for superdeluxe.com), but there was some silly legal stuff between the record label and Turner.

I'm glad they finally got it worked out.

From the issue of "The Fake Headlines" (the NP's' e-mail newsletter) that went out yesterday:

As unfortunately wrongly reported on other sites we will NOT be playing a show in New York for Irving Plaza for New Years Eve. It is indeed true as written about here before we were planning on putting together a show in New York, but due to unfortunate circumstances and a few key acts falling through we decided it would be best to wait until we could put together the best show possible for such an auspicious day. In any event, Irving Plaza will get somebody else just as great and there will still be a lot of great options for you for New Years. Stay tuned if it happens to be anyone related to us!

Wow, I was at the show the night before this set at Webster Hall. Amazing to have a video record of it!

For 66$ I can visit 5 much better concerts or open airs. Are they crazy about the ticket prices?
