Noah & the Whale & Lindi Ortega @ Union Pool, NYC - pics
photos & review by Kyle Dean Reinford

After some previous cancellations, last night (September 16) Noah & The Whale played their first proper New York show. The night was a celebration of the release of their debut album, "Peaceful, The World Lays Me Down," out now on Cherry Tree Records. They played a bunch of songs off of the record, two brand new songs and a punk song. According to vocalist Charlie Fink, rather than b-sides, the band recorded a punk album called A-Sides, a project they hope to find some way to surface. Laura Marling, a part-time member of the band who played her own NYC show earlier that evening at the Virgin Megastore in Union Square and one the night before at Bowery Ballroom, sadly didn't make an appearance. Instead, opener Lindi Ortega joined them on a few tracks, including their single "5 Years Time." They ended with a cover of "Girlfriend in a Coma" by the Smiths.
You can still catch Noah & The Whale three more times in NYC this week and on tour. More pictures from last night, and some related videos, below...

Last nights show was awesome. One of the best nyc debuts in quite some time. The songs are hit or miss, but they more than make up for it with their energy and sheer likability. The lack of pretense was refreshing.
