Sigur Ros

"This tour will bring the Icelandic quartet to some of the most prestigious venues in the country where they will perform as a four-piece for the first time in almost ten years."
Tickets are on sale for both United Palace shows (thx Mimi!).

Hey guys, if you wanna check out a fun indie bar, come to ACE BAR.

531 E 5th St # 1
New York, NY 10009
(212) 979-8476

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2008 3:44 PM

this will be cool, but glad i saw the whole sha-bang at grand ballroom

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2008 3:44 PM

yaaaaaaaaaay. thanks, got lodge row c. That's good enough for me week before.

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2008 3:49 PM

ACE BAR?

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2008 3:57 PM

It's good that they are keeping things interesting, but I really liked all the other musicians at Grand Ballroom.

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2008 4:02 PM

No horn section? boo

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2008 4:10 PM

if all the people who post anonymously went to one indie bar it would be the most horrid place ever.

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2008 4:11 PM

it's gonna be dirtier, I can't wait.

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2008 4:13 PM

aside from the glory hole blowjobs, ace bar sucks ass.

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2008 4:31 PM

I have a hard time justifying paying 120 for two tickets to see them when I've seen them for far cheaper before (and free at MoMa). Ticket prices are getting ridiculous - nothing new though.

Posted by hmmm | September 11, 2008 4:36 PM

Fifty fucking dollars per ticket plus a $10 service charge per ticket? FUCK YOU MOTHERFUCKERS. UNITED PALACE AND SIGUR ROS CAN SUCK MY COCK.

Posted by Sharkdog | September 11, 2008 4:37 PM

Um, yeah, to echo previous posts: "4-piece Sigur Ros" reads like an oxymoron.

Posted by Tito | September 11, 2008 4:41 PM

I saw them @ the Beacon during Takk & they were more expensive than that. Anyways, thanks for the info. 4th row loge.

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2008 4:42 PM

dear faithful snobbery (i say that with love),

check this out brosefs (this right "hur" is a true story)

i log onto ticketmaster. i search for some sigur rós united palace tickets. i can't get a decent pair together, so i give up on the search for two. i decide to go solo. i start my one ticket best available search. i land a OO center orch seat (si-ii-ick). i buy it. i'm going; it's decided.

(here comes the good stuff) just for fun, i search for another single seat/ticket for the same night (right after i buy my ticket). ready... the search pulls up the seat NEXT to the one i just purchased (ho-ly fuck... ticketmaster whichcraft? possibly)...

sigur rós <3 should be a great show!

good luck hamigos

Ticketmaster is evil. If the NYC hipsters that attend these types of shows had any social consiousness whatsoever the simple solution would be to not attend Ticketmaster shows and to complain to the bands about this bullshit. The problem is that hipsters are fucking corporate tool and could care less as long as they can wear their skinny jeans to a concert for a band that sings in a language only about 250,000 people in the world can even understand.

Posted by Sharkdog | September 11, 2008 4:56 PM

Is this only for the show in NY or all following shows throughout the country?

Posted by John | September 11, 2008 4:56 PM

"Is this only for the show in NY or all following shows throughout the country? "

4-piece everywhere

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2008 4:59 PM

who cares?
these guys are snore
60 bucks to all asleep
lick my taint

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2008 5:00 PM

Great. I am seeing them in a symphony hall in San Diego. What kind of shit is that!

Posted by John | September 11, 2008 5:01 PM

Got LLoge, Row B. This is why I love BV. Thank you.

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2008 5:01 PM

but what about the hideously overpriced tix im scalping?!?!?!

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2008 5:10 PM

in the past, have sigur rós had a mini orchestra with them normally for their sets?
for those who have seen them before, in your opinion will their playing as a 4 piece have a huge effect on their perfomance/energy and sound overall?

...this is pretty shitty news and pretty last minute.
thanks, you c#nts.

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2008 5:14 PM

5:10pm - that joke is dead. also, how is third period french going?

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2008 5:16 PM

actaully, they aren't playing as a 4 piece
a dj is going to play some of their records
and you're going to sit there and suck it
for 60 dollars- that YOU pay

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2008 5:32 PM

sigur ros have almost always traveled with a string section (four girls whom make up the group amina). i saw them as a 4 piece a few years ago & it was great. less lush & a lot more raw/powerful/rocking. can't wait! i hope they dust off & revisit some older songs off their shelves, like uh...lagid i gaer.

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2008 5:33 PM

How exactly did art and culture become so inaccessible and when exactly did it become acceptable to the artists and the fans to charge excessive service fees on top of expensive tickets? I simply refuse to submit to this even for a band I like, and I do like Sigur Ros.

Posted by see you in tea | September 11, 2008 5:36 PM

oh yeah - and for an idea of what to expect, look up videos from the TLA 2001 performance that was taped for Reverb.

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2008 5:37 PM

got upper deck seat with from cragslist posting, but am getting skeptical about 4-piece news...
have they done this before, my first time seeing them...

Posted by Pedro | September 11, 2008 5:38 PM

sigur ros playing without strings isn't exactly "last minute" news: http://www.sigur-ros.co.uk/board/viewthread.php?tid=26401

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2008 5:41 PM

sharkdog, thanks for the comic relief. if you can organize a ticketmaster boycott, god bless you. in case you haven't noticed, they are connected to most of the mainstream shows these days. unfortunate reality of life.

maybe you should stay home and boycott ticketmaster yourself. that will give you more time to masturbate angrily about the "hipsters" who you supposedly hate, and more time to post hilarious comments on blogs.

good luck singlehandedly taking on ticketmaster! let me know how it goes...

Posted by sharkdog is funny | September 11, 2008 5:42 PM

Ive seen 5 or 6 times... going out to Red Rocks to see em this time. Just saw Grand Ballroom... (which was the shit).

Honestly it's amazing with the full crew. But this mainly means that they will be playing a much different set. Which will be nice...

It's not a bad thing.

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2008 5:46 PM

When do you think the opening band will go on since i might be running a little late on the 18th?

thanks

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2008 8:15 PM

why the hell are all the balcony seats gone but all the lodge seats are still available? i can't fucking afford $50 plus $10 bull shit charges

Posted by Anonymous | September 11, 2008 11:48 PM

saw them play at carnegie hall just last year as a four piece

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2008 1:02 AM

got 4 lodge row a's! yay, i was planning on stubhubing some orchestra ones next week...

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2008 10:25 AM

They might have to postpone - apparently their guitarist was attacked onstage in Canada last week and they have been canceling shows.

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2008 12:02 PM

oasis joke. got it. move along.

Can someone tell me how Will Call at United Palace works? (apart from it being a crappy line).

Do you line up and get a hard ticket in hand like Irving Plaza? Or do they just tick your name off a list like at the Bowery or Merc Lge?

I have a friend who will probs be late so need to work out a plan.

I think there is an opening band but with doors at 8pm my guess is this will start around 9pm (which is kinda silly).

Thanks

Posted by Chris | September 16, 2008 6:32 PM

DOORS are at 7
SHOW is at 8

These United Palace shows start practically right on the dot, so don't dawdle folks

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 6:48 PM

show starts at 8pm sharp with iceland's Parachutes

jonsi's bf is in the band. they're quite good.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 6:48 PM

Any clue when the show will end? 11:30?

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 6:55 PM

enjoying the thoughtfulness of this thread

How are most people getting to the United Palace and back home?
Call me a scared white person, but Im not in Harlem all that often....

Posted by davey | September 16, 2008 10:40 PM

Its all good man. Just take the A train uptown to 175th, get off and the venue is one block away. Its really not bad at all!

Getting there is fast because the train runs express. Getting back home can kind of suck because it runs local so after 1030 pm, it stops every couple of blocks. But other then that, it is all good.

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 10:56 PM

oh wow, I had the same question too! I'm most likely doin' the A train thing, but I was considering getting there by the M5 buss and walk the 3 blocks south just in time for doors/show.Getting back though...are there a lot of taxis in the area? or car service? thanks, my folks are bein totally fuckin lame, they haven't been there sinc e the 60's or something...

Posted by Anonymous | September 16, 2008 11:15 PM

I guarantee the A train will be filled with "white people" going there and back...

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2008 12:14 AM

take the train instead of the bus, trust me on this. the venue is one block east of the station. this neighborhood is not bad at all btw, some nice places to get something to eat.

however beware of going in through the exit at the subway station on the way back, last three shows Ive seen there undercover cops were busting people for going in through the exit doors. if you want to go in quick i suggest you head for the north entrance as that has more turstiles, if you go to south entrance that has only 2 turnstiles and before you know it you will be on a huge line just to get in the station.

I'm selling one ticket for tonight's show at face value. Lower Loge Row A.

http://newyork.craigslist.org/mnh/tix/843924784.html

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2008 11:13 AM

haha this is incredible, look like scalpers are desperate to dump their extra tickets, like there must be at least 200 tickets begging for a buyer. after the high demand for those MoMA tickets, they thought they were gonna make a killing, now it looks like they are the one who are gonna get killed.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2008 11:33 AM

stop using bv to shill your extras. We all know how to find craigslist.

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2008 11:49 AM

EXTRA! EXTRA! Read all about it! 11:49 knows how to use craigslist!

Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2008 11:58 AM

I hope everyone's seats turned out as good as mine
(outside the venue by about 1 mile).
It was transcendent. I have never seen a show this good - they played a gtr with a saw and played the same measure 30 times in a row, getting gradually louder until they started singing in this made up language, really high & slightly off key - then they did it again, except this time no made up language!!! And so it went!!! I'm a berklee trained musician and I've seem some amazing shit, but no one will ever top what I saw this magical night.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2008 12:58 AM

HHhhhmmmm, wouldn't someone who went to Berkeley who is so super smart and "trained" in music know that all songs have measures and of course you'd know how to spell your alma mater? idiot.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2008 10:50 AM

Berklee is different than Berkeley, fool. Look it up & stand corrected. http://www.berklee.edu/

The point above is they play the same thing over and over.

And I never said I was super smart, just that your favorite band sucks.

Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2008 2:55 PM

Berklee is a (very well known) college of music in Boston, you ass.
