the pop song was intense and a great finale!

Definitely not as epic as The Grand Ballroom but still a magical night.

I like their outfits, I like their country of origin, I like fellatio and trolls and hot springs.
But ... I just don't like their music. Can Iceland forgive me?

Didn't they also play Med Blodnasir? Good show but to much Takk too few new album!

That truly was such a great show in an amazing venue. I now wish I had made the trek north to see Neil Young play.

"the pop song was intense and a great finale!"
they always close with that duuhhhh
Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2008 8:43 AM
set really picked up after that lap steel guy came out. personally I missed the strings. vocals still unparalleled. drums were mixed a bit low, I would have liked them up. all in all it was a sigur ros show - hard not to fall head over heels be transported death rebirth all that.
Posted by Allen | September 19, 2008 8:56 AM
8:43 they didn't close with that before 2002 :)

less Backstreet Boys though.... :)

First time I've seen them and I thought it was pure magic all the way through. I'm tempted to sneak out of work and head up to Boston for another round...
To the girl sitting next to me on the very end of row Q at the back of the orchestra - can I buy you an ice cream cone? Seriously.

I DON'T LIKE THEIR OUTFITS AND CAN'T REALLY GET DOWN WITH THE TUNES EITHER.. NICE VENUE THOUGH!

Great pics! Love the few of the full band.

fun show ... I love their music. Although my ears were probably a little forgiving because I'm so familiar with their recorded music. The four peice set up definitely had it's own unique charm though and my repsect for them as musicians has increased even more.
My girlfriend had never listened to them before and I think some of the repetitiveness of a few tunes stuck out a bit because it was lacking the normal layers of orchestration.
That's pretty critical stuff. We loved it. Really some beautiful moments last night.
WHAT'S THE DEAL WITH THE OPENER?!?!
It was like watching a Coldplay cover band open for Radiohead. A really limited version of Sigur Ros. Horrible copycat vocals... simple progressions lacking any significant melody to make the tunes interesting... I would have been completely satisfied waiting another hour listening to the music they were playing before the band started.
Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2008 9:44 AM
far better than the first night! the set list was petty much the same (which was expected) but it was nice that they added a never-before-played song. oh and pop song sounded particularly great!
i'm totally with you about the opening band 9:44, didn't get them AT ALL.
Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2008 9:55 AM
Night 2, another awful band...
Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2008 10:05 AM
Kirsten Dunst was there with the mac guy.
they were in my row!
Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2008 10:15 AM
9:03- they closed with the pop song at irving plaza on may 8, 2001.
Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2008 10:23 AM
"I DON'T LIKE THEIR OUTFITS..."
That surprises me.
Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2008 10:24 AM
Too bad the people in my row sucked.
Well, mainly just the bitch with curly hair on the end of row M. Oh yeah and her twirp boyfriend.
They decided that no one could go to the restroom.
I guess they were confused and thought they bought the whole row or something.
I only left my seat once, but I guess that was 1 time too many for them.
Then they wouldn't let me back to my friends/seat.
It's a good thing they ran out right after the show or I would have fucking burned them.

i can't believe these didn't sell out
do they recycle that confetti?
Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2008 10:31 AM
I was in the Balcony and it looked like every seat was taken...
Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2008 10:41 AM
"do they recycle that confetti?"
That was multi-colred volcanic ash imported from their homeland. No need to recycle.
I think it's called iclandic magic dust overseas.
Only silly Americans still use crude methods like paper.

Did they play "Garfunkly"? That's their best song IMO
Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2008 11:14 AM
I remember seeing them at Irving Plaza the first time in NY. They went on earylish and a bunch of hat boys were just yapping the whole time until Sven G was played.... They were great just raw, but all this dressed up bird suits and tux's I just don't get. To me they evolved in the wrong way. Soft.
But the early stuff ruled, I feel privledged to see some of those early shows.

11:36 - How can you hate on their clothes? WTF? Do you prefer the dirty t-shirt, hoody, jeans and beard look? Sounds like you didn't even see the show last night and you're judging on the photos and commenting on what they wore?
Keep being proud of yourself for seeing them at Irving. Very impressive.

do you want a cookie or a monument in yr honour?
Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2008 12:12 PM
You cant be serious some of you? You really allowed people in your row to dictate what you could do ie going to the bathroom etc? You are the pussies and not them. If someone dared to try to pull that shit with me they would have ended up with a fist in their face not to mention a liquid if i had one.
This crap that goes on at shows will stop if you stop allowing it to happen. Someone doesnt like you whispering to your friend. TOUGH SHIT. Someone is angered if you get up out of your seat during the show or come to your seat after the performance has started. TOUGH SHIT. Someone gets mad cause you push your way up closer to the front and take up some tight space. TOUGH SHIT. None of these people own the property of that space or own the venue the show is at.
Fuck Em

"Keep being proud of yourself for seeing them at Irving. Very impressive.

He should be proud. I was at that show as well. Why should he not be proud. We saw the band early on before a lot of you jumped on the wagon. Nothing wrong with being proud of that when a lot of the comments on this thread are from people whose first time seeing this band was this week and are acting like they know all.

Actually, there was a lot on inconsiderate behavior at the show last night. I would hope that Sigur Ros would have fans would have been a tad more reverent.
It's one thing if you have to pee (I did for most of the show, since the venue was so poorly designed for concert traffic I didn't make it to the mens' room before the Sigur Ros set started . . . so I held it . . . but I'm like that), but the same people just kept getting up over and over and drinking more, which meant peeing more and it was distracting. Especially since the music these guys play . . . well, I think it demands a certain kind of attention. I've been to Madonna concerts with more polite audiences.
Additionally, talking loudly to your friends (like the two guys who were next to me for the beginning and end of the show . . . and mysteriously disappeared for the middle section) and then getting angry if someone asks you to keep it down, is inconsiderate. These tickets cost $50 and it is distracting. No one is saying you can't talk, but be conscientious of others around you. I paid to listen to Sigur Ros, not your theories about why they didn't play "Olsen Olsen" or whatnot.

This band still sucks...
Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2008 12:41 PM
yea agreed with 12:27. people were so inconsiderate last night at the show. the music was meant to be enjoyed in silence... the douchebag who shouted out "freebird" during a silent moment should be lynched. oh, and drunk bitches seated in GG that got up every 20 mins to get more beer and wouldn't shut the fuck up the entire time - you must have gotten confused... the band you were watching wasn't bon jovi, so you shouldn't have acted like a pair of jersey girls who waited their entire lives to go to one of their concerts. simply rude.
Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2008 1:06 PM
to ANON 12:16
you are my hero.
I agree with your TOUGH SHIT mentality.
I'm so tired of people thinking because they spent $50 bucks on their ticket that the concert is their own personal private fucking momwnt and everyone else had to cater to the way they want to enjoy a show.
I like to have beers at shows. Venues know that lots of people do and that's why they sell it.
And when I drink beer I have to piss and when I have to piss I want to get up and go to the bathroom and piss without some prissy little bitch trying to police me.
Stay home and listen to the CD you fuck wads or deal with the fact that you are at a concert.
I paid $50 for my ticket too and I paid $8 for each beer and I'm gonna go to the bathroom whenever I want. And, yes I am a bug sigur Ros fan.
Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2008 1:56 PM
you are a bug ... ^
Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2008 2:33 PM
I sat in the Far Right row A and literally throughout the ENTIRE show people were walking in front of us and/or just standing there, which was pretty sad, especially that one guy who started running around during 'Inni i Mer.' But it was still amazing, only 'Hoppipolla' missed the brass.
Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2008 3:52 PM
1) Glad I sold my tickets
2) Fuck anybody who there is a right or wrong way to act at a concert.

They all hate their parents....

"Fuck anybody who there is a right or wrong way to act at a concert. "
Pardon?
Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2008 4:11 PM
I'm pretty sure the people who are saying that there is no wrong or right way to act at a concert etc did not have people blocking their views, making them get up, making rows in front of them get up, and on and on like some of the rest of us had to deal with.
Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2008 4:15 PM
Who saw the fat dude that would run "victory laps" up and down the aisles with his hands raised in the air about every 20 or 30 minutes. It was pretty f*cking funny. Fat ass.
Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2008 4:23 PM
how long was the show with encore? over 2 hours?
Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2008 4:42 PM
Started around 9, ended around 11.
Posted by Anonymous | September 19, 2008 4:47 PM
Great band, good shows, nice looking but wrong venue. SR deserves to be in the smaller, intimate venues, Like the Manhattan Center Grand Ballroom. One of the things that made that show so special was that the venue was perfectly sized - big enough to get some audience energy and vibe, and small enough to sound clear and keep the assholes in check. A bigger venue, like United Palace, will make for situations like assholes that get up and sit down, talk, and generally act disrespectfully towards others the entire night. A major reason that I do all I can to avoid these bigger shows. For Led Zep I might reconsider, but short of that I'm imposing a personal venue size cap of 1000 people from now on. So I won't see Radiohead, BFD

NYC crowds are the worst. Bunch of pretentious fuck bags. Stay home and maybe take a shower for once, you pussies. This show was awesome, no complaints here.
Posted by Anonymous | September 20, 2008 12:59 AM
Those of you who think you can go to a show and act any way that you damn well please, I have nothing to say, because you're too ignorant to understand anyway.
It's not as if you have to quietly sit in your seat the whole night, but could a little appreciation for what you and the others around you are experiencing hurt?
People who talk constantly during the show are idiots. People who constantly hold their camera phone up in the air and take pictures are idiots. People who arrive at the show 20 minutes after the band starts playing and make a big loud stink because people are in their seats are idiots.
If you don't agree, then you're an idiot, and nothing I say would get you to change your behavior anyway, so I must learn to ignore you and enjoy the show despite your stupidity.

man, same freggin setlist both nights. They played one extra song in the middle the first night. Glad I dumped my tix the second night to see mogwai
Posted by Anonymous | September 23, 2008 12:36 AM
I appreciate them without the strings and horns section but I don't think there is any doubt that their complete sound is only possible with the whole crew intact. Especially in venues as large as the ones they are playing on this tour I think they need the 12 or 14 pieces to fill these large rooms.
Not a bad show but night and day when compared with their Town Hall performance.
There has been a lot of talk about the outfits which is kind of a weird thing to rate a show on but I guess they were a little contrived. The light show was very good and even great for some of the songs. Minimal but very innovative I thought.
Posted by Ryan | September 23, 2008 12:20 PM
