The band... commence their North American "20th Anniversary Tour" November 1. The five-week run will be highlighted by multi-night stops [and]..the Pumpkins are coming prepared with completely different set lists in each of the multi-night engagements with no songs being repeated over the course of the two night run. Night #1 is being called "Black Sunshine," while night #2 will be dubbed "White Crosses." A special two-night ticket bundle will be available for all multi-night engagements. As previously announced, Smashing Pumpkins are playing their two NYC nights at United Palace Theatre (home of the recent Sigur Ros shows and where Beck will be playing very soon). The NYC shows go on Ticketmaster presale on Saturday. All dates below...
In Chicago--where singer/guitarist BILLY CORGAN and drummer JIMMY CHAMBERLIN continue to be based--the Pumpkins will play four shows at two different venues. In cities where the band is set to play one night, they plan to deliver a unique one-off set.
"I am extremely proud of the work we have done," says CHAMBERLIN. "It certainly doesn't seem like 20 years! The Pumpkins will always be about moving forward and although I'm excited to play these shows, I'm just as excited to move our music into the next decade."
Before the anniversary tour's kick-off, the Pumpkins will make a return performance at the annual Bridge School benefit hosted by Neil Young in Shoreline, CA on October 26 (the second of the two-night engagement). The band last performed at this annual event--benefiting children with severe speech and physical impairments--in 1999.

James Iha will be playing a few songs with the Band in Chicago. They are trying to get D'arcy, but not yet confirmed. It does not appear that they will be at any of the other anniversary shows though.

"yo BV, why do you delete creative and intelligent comments?"
First I heard about creative and intelligent comments getting deleted.

^ In BV's defense, I haven't seen a creative or intelligent comment on this board in a loooong time.

Every fucking one of you whiners who hate the Pumpkins are probably too young to really know who they are. Or how they were actually a fantastic departure from pure grunge or on the other end, 90's Depeche Mode.
So, shut the fuck up and go back to your Vampire Weekend bullshit and your same 70 minute setlist.

Yeah, they WERE. Sadly, they've sucked for a long time and their live show is weak. And yes, I saw them in '94, so I am old enough. Corgan is also an uber douche.

Those that call the Pumpkins "shitty greed mongers" certainly do not know their Pumpkins history. For instance, the band donated every dollar to charity on the Adore tour, which amounted to over $2.8 million. That is no chump change. I've also seen Billy do some pretty crazy things for fans (taking 40 fans to IHOP for breakfast that had waited overnight for an autograph session in Champaign, IL; flying in about a dozen fans from across the country to listen to Machina and provide feedback before it came out; giving old bootleg tapes to fans after shows; etc.). I could go on and on. You may hate them, but there is also something to be said for a band that still plays 2 1/2 hour, diverse sets each night.

Shit! They're totally not using these "anniversary" shows to primarily rip through the old catalog. Last night's set was way less than half pre-2001 tunes, and straight from the horse's mouth:
http://smashingpumpkins.com/pages/blog/observations-from-delayed-traveler-c7c57be1
I've noticed in the run-up to the tour a few indications that seem to think that we are sentimental in announcing our 20th anniversary extravaganza. When you see the total set-list, particularly for the black crosses and white sunshine shows (or is it the other way round?), I don't think terms like 'harkening back' or 'sentimental' will be the words that will come to mind. This tour is a celebration of where we are, not where we've been. We are HERE! (With a big smile and a foot in your back) Enjoy it if you will, we realize its not for everybody. For that you have a whole army of fellaciators (is that even a word?) to gratefully service you. These are not angry words, by the way. We are having fun. Yes, who would have thunk it that after 20 years (or 21, who's counting?) we would not only be alive, but also loving our jobs and our shows and our experience of being in this group. The rest can go play their sad games of dominion and bridge-burning (meaning ubiquitous band 101 and 102). We have been there and have learned the lesson that there is no joy in it. Its a dead man's dance. Saying something as simple as 'we are real' is not grandiosity, it is fact. We are all real. We are all here. Life is an opportunity. We choose our opportunities wisely. Believe it or not we know what we are doing when we don't get along, don't play nice or fake our way thru the oblivion. So what about the consequences!!? What is life for if you don't make some waves or save a soul here or there? If anyone comes to this tour expecting a hand-holding, teary-eyed tribute to a dead band, forget it. That is long gone. Outside of 9 shows in 1999, that band hasn't existed whole since 1996.
