Steve Earle

Before Earle was signed as an artist in his own right, he was employed as a songwriter, writing songs for the likes of Carl Perkins, Vince Gill and Steve Wariner. His song "Mustang Wine" was due to be recorded by Elvis Presley in 1975, but Presley did not turn up for the recording session. The song was released as a single by Carl Perkins. [Wiki]

Apparently the "Acoustic and solo? No thanks." guy missed his solo show at Town Hall last year. Amazing.
