What's going on Monday? (Labor Day)

Burning Man - August 30, 2008 (fbcota)
Burning Man

A dust storm disrupted the Burning Man festival in Nevada on Saturday, a spokesman for the federal Bureau of Land Management, Roger Farschon, told The Associated Press. The festival was in a "total whiteout," Mr. Farschon said in an e-mail message. "A similar cold front caused a major dust event on Monday. The rest of the event has been relatively dust-free." The festival, a celebration of music, art and self-expression held in the Black Rock Desert, attracts nearly 50,000 participants each year. [NY Times]

First of all, 'labor' is spelt without a 'u' over here. Second, Labor Day is the first Monday, not September 1st. Third, Commie Day (May Day) is not celebrated in the U.S.

"Since when Labour Day has moved from the 1st of May to the 1st of September?"

since 1894 - or in other words, since the u.s. government wanted american workers to forget about the 5/1/1882 chicago haymarket massacre, in which workers demanding an 8-hour workday were shot by the police.

incidentally (or not), 1894 - the year congress declared the september version of labor day a federal holiday - was also the year of the may day workers' riots in detroit.

amazing, but there used to be a time when working class americans, and americans in general, were not political dupes.

it's ridiculous as to how far the local, state, and federal police are going to intimidate the people. i hope you post something on this bv.

Let's not forget that four years ago (when Bloomy was still a Republican), right here in NYC, not only were protesters (and even some non-participating bystanders) arrested en masse, they had their rights violated while they were detained overnight.
