Just Announced:

As September 27 turns to September 28, the Brooklyn Academy of Music-- the very same one that commissioned Sufjan Stevens' award-winning "The BQE" piece-- will play host once again to Takeover, a glorified all-nighter rife with all manner of artsy entertainment.

Our man Sufjan is responsible for selecting the live music for the event, which thus far includes St. Vincent, the Brooklyn Youth Chorus (performing the music of Nico Muhly and others, and probably up way past their bedtimes), and Daptone Records outfit Naomi Shelton & the Gospel Queens. No appearance from Takeover's esteemed musical curator is planned at this time (though he ought to be in the area to accept his Brendan Gill Prize), so you may want to put those Sufjan slumber party dreams on hold for now.

Among the other Takeover diversions: DJs King Britt and Vikter Duplaix, plenty of films (including The Warriors, Saturday Night Fever, the first part of Lars Von Trier's The Kingdom, and Guy Maddin's The Saddest Music in the World), ping-pong, Guitar Hero, and the almighty Wii.

Weapons (fresh out of the studio w/Alan Vega) battling Williamsburg's freak garage-art-partiers Golden Triangle, and DJ sets by New York Night Train soul proprietor Mr. Jonathan Toubin with very special guest uber-model/designer Erin Wasson (who just debuted her new womenswear collection Erin Wasson x RVCA at this season's Fashion Week!), but also the artful gyrations of superstar go go dancer Ms. Anna Copacabana and the hallucinogenic live dualing projectors of Mssr Spencer Bewley. Santos' Party House and New York Night Train got together to create a weekly underground rock'n'roll dance party unlike any other our city has seen, DECLASSIFIED - the finest underground rock bands and DJs in the world with projectionists, go go dancers, and performance every Monday.
