A message from Robin Schatell, the Director of Programming at Riverside Park South: "Dear Globesonic on Pier I dance lover. Once again, the weather is not cooperating with us and we have to cancel tonight’s event. We love our beautiful Pier on the Hudson River when the sky is clear, but rain does not permit a set-up. We hope to see you in the Spring when we bring Globesonic back for their 5th year at Summer on the Hudson!"

Posted by gregory | September 12, 2008 9:45 PM

how was goldfrapp?

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2008 10:53 PM

Who cares?

How was the Ace Bar?

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2008 11:10 PM

Goldfrapp was flawless as usual. I actually enjoyed this one more than both the Beacon and Roseland shows. Martha Wainwright was in top form. She almost stole the show. She is born to play venues the size of Radio City and bigger. If only more people had better taste in music these days.

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2008 11:11 PM

Goldfrapp was Amazing. Unfortunately the crowd sucked big time. Almost everyone was sitting for the first half of the show. Real lame.

Posted by Anonymous | September 12, 2008 11:52 PM

Biggest disappointment was the one song encore. Friggin primadonna.

Posted by Anonymous | September 13, 2008 12:04 AM

Those subway buskers playing new Oasis songs were awesome.

Posted by Anonymous | September 13, 2008 12:07 AM

according to brooklynvegan commenters, EVERY crowd sucks these days, unless it's at some tiny pretentious club deep in the throngs of bushwick or williamsburg. i'm more intersted in how the PERFORMER is. hence the reason i asked about goldfrapp. i could give a shit about the crowd.

Posted by Anonymous | September 13, 2008 12:18 AM

Goldfrapp was at the top of her game. A&E, Caravan Girl, and Happiness were all played but Number One was not. Same damn clown pirate outfits from the last tour. Can't really judge her mood but she wasn't cursing at the sound guy like at the Beacon. The crowd was fine. Biggest annoyance of the night for me was that they started at 8:00 so I missed a couple of songs from Martha's set. She sounded wonderful. I'll definitely want to catch her at Spiegeltent next week.

Posted by Anonymous | September 13, 2008 12:37 AM

the fender thing was mostly total wank noise...the only redeeming factor was j mascis totally tearing it down with 2nd wave dinosaur jr tracks with an amazing backing duo.

i felt like i was in junior high again...he sounded AWESOME.

verlaine, renaldo, moore, nels cline...you can all suck it.

nels i can understand because this is his stuff but no one but a bunch of bearded dudes care to hear yr noise...

Posted by Anonymous | September 13, 2008 12:54 AM

fucked up also played 40 thompson tonight.

Posted by Anonymous | September 13, 2008 5:34 AM

Having seen goldfrapp a number of times, I think this was one of her best performances. Her voice was spot on and the music arrangements, especially for the newer songs, were very full, with an almost cinematic quality. She did play Number One actually. My only complaint, as others have said is that the one song encore was lame, especially since the song - Some People - is not one of the group's best on any level. Would not have also minded to hear a few more old songs. She played the entire new album (I think), but only one off of Felt Mountain (Utopia), two off of Black Cheery (Strict Machine & Train). Overall - it was great. I will be happy when she gets a new outfit. I also saw Bjork at RCMH and I think both Goldfrapp and Bjork have the same costume designer because I think they were wearing the same thing.

Posted by Peter | September 13, 2008 9:29 AM

The last third of the Goldfrapp show was great. While Alison sounded wonderful in the first 2/3 of the set, there just wasn't any energy in the room. Just in case anyone is interested, the show was heavily, heavily papered - over 1500 tickets were given away by the theater papering clubs. That + the 1/2 price tix on ticketmaster = a big hit for the promoter.

Posted by Anonymous | September 13, 2008 10:05 AM

I was wondering why there were all these old ladies walking out after the third song or so.

Posted by Anonymous | September 13, 2008 10:36 AM

EARL GREYHOUND WAS UNSTOPPABLE!

Posted by Anonymous | September 13, 2008 10:55 AM

how does one obtain free tickets to something like that anyway?

i'd like some free tickets!

360 deals are a land grab. Until the labels can prove they're giving service for those rights, no one in his right mind would make this deal. Just because the label's in trouble, that doesn't mean you're obligated to bail it out. Just like the government refused to bail out Lehman Brothers. Just like you refuse to buy a gas guzzler to help Detroit.
