"did john mayer really play the Mercury Lounge last night?"
he shows up there sometimes when he feels like practicing and they let him play.

You mean "fag" as in blindingly annoying and ultra femme screamingly gay dude (i.e. perez hilton) or fag as in corny hetero?

Gabriel Kahane's album release show at the Zipper Factory at 10.30pm with special guests Sam Amidon, and musicians from Rufus Wainright/Antony & The Johnson/My Brightest Diamond's band and others. the album includes Sufjan Stevens, Chris Thile and more

^^I think that commenter is referring to the photo accompanying BV's post about Ted Nugent's letter, not the Grand Old Party.

Sigur Ros sounded good but definitely their past shows in NY have been much better esp. Beacon Theater shows
Posted by Anonymous | September 17, 2008 11:56 PM
Well not much can beat the Beacon shows. I mean we got Staralfur. But when are they not amazing. Can't wait for tomorrow... set list from tonight?
Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2008 12:11 AM
how was the show?
how were parachutes?
did it work as a 4-piece?
Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2008 12:19 AM
setlist?!?!?!?!?!?
Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2008 12:32 AM
Agreed, 11:56. I thought they were good, not great. Not to compare, but the show in June at the Ballroom was amazing... tonight was really good but didn't blow me away like June did. Maybe 'cause it was a larger venue, or the lack of a marching band... still well worth going though. And the theater, wow, what an amazing building.

up there with the Grand Ballroom show in June... "Haffssol" (or however the hell you spell it) tonight was the most intense sound I've ever heard them make.
the 4-piece format didn't change their approach much. it seemed like they were playing faster than usual but maybe that was time-flies syndrome. It was really great.

yes, Sigur Ros later, but for now, anyone have the Mars Volta setlist?
Posted by Pedro | September 18, 2008 12:48 AM
sigur ros went on around 9 and played for 1.5 hours and then another few songs for encore. i don't have the exact setlist, but they played a very good mix from (), agaetis byrjun, a lot from takk, and a few from the new one. they played these songs but i don't know the order and i'm probably missing a few:
Svefn-g-englar
glosoli
hoppipolla
track 1 from ()
heysatan
saeglopur
meo bloonasir
all right
goobledigook
flojtavik
inni mer syngur vitleysingur

TMV was shit...
went out before the end of the show; jumped into a guy with a At the drive-in t-shirt, I told him I was sorry for the show.
Where are the time when they used to play 4 songs of deloused in 1h30 and it was geniously amazing?
Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2008 12:51 AM
(i stole this from the message board on their website)
Here's the setlist from tonight's show (straight from the setlist I got from the soundboard guy)
1. Svefn-G-Englar
2. Glósóli
3. Ny Batteri
4. Fljótavík
5. Við Spilum Endalaust
6. Hoppípolla
7. Með Blóðnasir (w/audience singing)
8. Svo Hljótt
9. Heysátan
10. Viðrar Vel Til Loftárása
11. Inní Mér Syngur Vitleysingur
12. Sæglópur
13. Hafsól
14. Gobbledigook
Encore
15. All Alright
16. Popplagið
Illgresi was on the setlist as a second encore but the band did not play it.
Very cool visuals & the first 2 songs sounded truly astounding
I'll be posting some pics and videos on Youtube shortly

they ended with poppaglio
Posted by Anonymous | September 18, 2008 12:52 AM
was that Jonsi's bf from Parachutes who came out to play guitar on loftarasa? Sounded amazing.
they sound MUCH better without the horn section. They were really happy, Jonsi kept telling the crowd to clap, sing, stand etc.
Jonsi did not tell people to yell "Wooo!" during the quiet parts, but he must be used to that by now. If you get upset when this happens, plan your anger-management techniques in advance. Breathe deep. Fluffy clouds.

i wish i went to the same show as 12:49 last night, i would have LOVED to hear track 1 from ( )!

File-trading cannot be stopped. Give up the ghost. Either license what exists or come up with a pay model that delivers the essence, legally, for a very inexpensive price.
