Apollo Sunshine aren't just playing Mercury Lounge tonight (Oct 29, 2008).... "just for Halloween, the band will be dressing up as Jimi Hendrix, calling themselves The Apollo Sunshine Experience, and playing plenty of Hendrix songs." Also on tonight's NYC bill: Previously on Lost, a band who "will play the best of [Lost] Season 4, full of inflatable palm trees, live hula girl cardboard cutouts, free leis, and big planes." It is their second show ever (or maybe just in NYC). Videos from their first show below.

Does suck mean getting an 8.0 on Pitchfork and a story in the NY TIMES praising the record and the band? I remember a time when people gave a shit about what the last person said....oh wait, that's always. Hurry up- your diaper stinks and it's past your bed time.

Saw them at POP Montreal last year totally by accident, they opened for Dr. Dog, who is a total fratty goofball onstage, and they totally fuckin' rocked tha house. "Phyliss" is amazing & they are the only band I have ever seen to cover William Onyeabor's "You Better Change Your MInd", way cool in my book.
