Citay

"WFMU presents Selected Sounds from the Free Music Archive vol. 1. This compilation previews 21 of the thousands of tracks that'll be freely available under Creative Commons licenses when the fully interactive Free Music Archive website launches later this year. You can download the album, along with accompanying artwork by Greg Harrison, right here!
Lucky Dragons, Dan Deacon, Psychedelic Horseshit, Citay and many other bands appear on the free comp.
The music of San Francisco's Citay brims with a casual, unforced effervescence that belies meticulous arranging. Formed in 2004 by guitarist Ezra Feinberg of Piano Magic and Tim Green of the Fucking Champs, Citay favors long instrumental sections piled high with acoustic guitars, tambourines, and Beach Boys-style vocal harmonies. In Citay, there's a lot of people who want to say things to you.

And it's worth a listen.

Well put, friendo. Still, I think there are too many people. Maybe they should make two groups. Or two and a half groups.

Tim Green of the Fucking Champs? What about Tim Green of Nation of Ulysses!?!

I hope their name is a tribute to Steve Perry's pronunciation of "city" in Journey's "When the Lights Go Down in the City."

Hey, thanks for posting about WFMU's Free Music Archive! But that 1st compilation is old news. It was released July 4th and is "sold out" (we gave em all away for free).

The new compilation was released yesterday, w/ a whole new tracklist that includes Silver Jews, Sic Alps, Ariel Pink, Indian Jewelry, Getatchew Mekuria/The Ex, Old Time Relijun, and Vivian Girls. We gave a few hundred CDs away at last night's Free Music Series show, and we're saving a few hundred more for the WFMU record fair (Oct 24-26). http://freemusicarchive.org/prelaunch/samplerv2 to download the free sounds.

p.s. @annonymous Citay has just the right amount of people and they use them wisely. The real problem is too many fucking humans!!

I saw them at Cake Shop and they were seriously fucking good. Duel kinda Allman Brothers guitar shred, acoustic Led Zepellin folk-y aspects without psych-indie aftertaste that sometimes doesn't go down so well. Heavy and airy. They have always been good but they're on a different level now
